Source: Ellis agrees with #STLCards, 1-year deal, pending physical. @dgoold first to say deal was close. Another 2B off board for #Yankees.

What are Cashman and Anthopoulos thinking??????!!!

This wasn't my preferred target but it just seems like Yankees and Jays are under appreciating their needs at second base.

Pitching -_-

That's exactly right

Narrow minded focus

Except neither team has picked up any of that either

I know there's more time but...

Don't you worry! Carroll is available and Michael Young is FA! Two old-ass vets to play 2B for the 3rd straight year!

"Hey Mark, Alex A here, how about coming to Toronto to be our starting 2B for a year or two?"

"lol" *click*

Like why the f*** would Mark Ellis want to come to a clusterf*** team up in Canada and play on plastic/cement when he's 37 years old and the Cards are offering him a better shot at a WS?

Playing time?

I dunno, maybe, but I think a lot of vets would rather platoon on a really good team than start on a team that just won 74 games.

What a smart f***ing team.

And if both Ellis and Wong are on fire, move Ellis at the trade deadline to fill a hole.

To the Jays, of course, when Goins is hitting .165

And make them overpay

F me I have a hard time feeling anything positive about next season

Were the Blue Jays even in on either Ellis or Infante? We'll have to wait for next off season's book to find out.

Maybe trading Rasmus would return a SP and young 2B. We'll see, hopefully Ackley/Fanklin+ and sign one of Garza, Jimenez, Santana with the savings?

Wait and see is the name of the game.

So over pay a bit then

AA refuses to overpay players to come here.

This move was so obvious.

Overpay in cash makes sense but it's too late for that

Via trade, no.

Brian Roberts is still better than what we have. Even 50 starts of steady D and average hitting from him would help.

I'd be inclined to agree, contingent on whatever the hell his medicals would look like.

Contract stipulation: no head first slides.

Don't worry, AA's right on this! I can't wait for our soon-to-retire-40-year-old 2B replacement! DEM VETERIN PREZENTS

What hole? lol

Something will come up :P. At the very least they can upgrade the BP and/or get a good prospect while their at it

This is why you should never lose sight that the main goal is adding wins. While AA has been focused on pitching, the 2B market had dried up and still no pitching so now it's looking more and more like the 2011 off-season. Are there only two options for this team? Overpay in trades or hardly do anything?

for what? His 39 year old Free Agency? Not every player wants to be a starter, especially one that got his first taste of a playoff run since 2003.

Phillips or bust. At least the Yankees have KJ as an option. We have an org guy and a -2 WAR utility man.

Yeah, I'm with you here. Trading for Phillips + SP is realistic and probably the best option left.

Ugh.

You know what I was thinking, how come Mozeliak's name never comes up when people are talking about the best GMs in baseball? You always hear names like Friedman, Dombrowski, Daniels, Epstein, I hear very little praise for the guy that's built the absolute best organization top-to-bottom. The Cardinals are a f***ing juggernaut.

Holliday, Bourjos, Craig, Carpenter, Peralta, Jones, Adams, Molina, Wong/Ellis

Miller, Wainwright, Wacha, Lynn, Garcia

They literally don't have a hole anywhere on their team, and have arguably the best farm system in the majors to pair with it.

I think a lot of attentive fans are starting to notice some questionable compartmentalized thinking from Anthopoulos.

He things the offense is fine and he only needs to add pitching.

He thinks the team power is fine so he only needs to add contact hitters, or speed.

etc. etc. etc.

He definitely does not seem to think of individual players as holistic run machines.

He definitely does, and has been for a while. You're probably not reading the right people.
