John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted November 24, 2013 Posted November 24, 2013 Tom Tango blog post on TIPS! http://tangotiger.com/index.php/site/comments/move-over-dips-here-comes-tips?utm_medium=twitter&utm_source=twitterfeed That's a decent feather in your cap and for the blog right off the hop. Very good work!
z3r0s Old-Timey Member Posted November 24, 2013 Posted November 24, 2013 Big props on getting a plug from Tango. Congrats
TheHurl Site Manager Posted November 24, 2013 Posted November 24, 2013 Nice recognition. Any stats on hits so far?
Frag Verified Member Posted November 24, 2013 Posted November 24, 2013 Pretty exciting night for me, MGL commented on the article and ventured to read the others (commented on Dickey Effect). Tom Tango is also an idol, so it feels pretty special to get recognized. You must be proud! Congrats man!

Tom Tango is also an idol, so it feels pretty special to get recognized. Excuse my ignorance but I don't know anything about MGL. Is he also one of the other authors of The Book? Does he have an identity beyond those initials? In any case, that's a terrific compliment he made.
DuckDuckGose Verified Member Posted November 24, 2013 Posted November 24, 2013 I have to say JFaS the thing I was most impressed with was your analysis of the results. You really took it one step further and showed the utility of your work, not many bloggers have the aptitude to go that far.
DuckDuckGose Verified Member Posted November 24, 2013 Posted November 24, 2013 I'd love to see a follow up article applying TIPS to the current FA BP and SP market. I noticed a guy like Shaun Marcum posted a good TIPS and could be a decent bounce back candidate. I'm sure there are quite a few more candidates that I overlooked.
Frag Verified Member Posted November 24, 2013 Posted November 24, 2013 It will be interesting to see TIPS being used as an evaluator of relief pitching or pitching in general at the start of the season.
bzapple Verified Member Posted November 24, 2013 Posted November 24, 2013 Wow, great work on the articles so far. And that's really cool that you're already receiving recognition from some of the top analysts. Keep up the excellent content!
DuckDuckGose Verified Member Posted November 24, 2013 Posted November 24, 2013 I actaully have one currently on fangraphs exactly what you're talking about, but it's coming to BB. Awesome JFaS, I'm looking forward to reading it.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted November 24, 2013 Posted November 24, 2013 Is there going to be anyone analyzing the free agent signings lately? And JFaS, will you be posting your framing data through the blog? Also, just a suggestion. Maybe a link to the forum in one of the ribbons up top or moving the ad for the forum up to the top of the site might be a better way to gain visitors.
Laika Community Moderator Posted November 24, 2013 Posted November 24, 2013 Is there going to be anyone analyzing the free agent signings lately? I've been hesitant to because I want to standardize our value calculations first. I'm going to need help from the community at large to do so, so I'm currently working on a post to that end. Hopefully after I get that sorted, I/we can go back and examine McCann and Peralta, and anyone else.

8D Verified Member Posted November 25, 2013 Posted November 25, 2013 How many years until JFaS gets hired away from an MLB team? Unfourunately probably not the Jays.

z3r0s Old-Timey Member Posted November 25, 2013 Posted November 25, 2013 I think something is f'd up on the main page. Just by way of an FYI
admin Site Manager Posted November 25, 2013 Author Posted November 25, 2013 We have to threaten JFaS's life if he leaves the blog! I can't believe the attention this article has received. It's exciting seeing it grow and grow.

Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted November 25, 2013 Posted November 25, 2013 I'm really impressed with how the blog is gaining traction, nice work lads!
8D Verified Member Posted November 25, 2013 Posted November 25, 2013 Too bad the Jays can't even take advantage of Canadian talent because they don't want to follow/understand sabermetrics. OH jays... maybe the next FO regime...
admin Site Manager Posted November 25, 2013 Author Posted November 25, 2013 Better lock him up AA ninja style before it's too late! JFaS, we're prepared to offer you $100 over three years. We feel our offer is fair. Like that?
Chappy Community Moderator Posted November 25, 2013 Posted November 25, 2013 JFaS, we're prepared to offer you $100 over three years. We feel our offer is fair. Like that? Smart move making the offer public. Now he has to accept.
Chappy Community Moderator Posted November 25, 2013 Posted November 25, 2013 It is really impressive. The writers are excellent, but even so I wouldn't have expected it to take off so fast. The guys should be proud, especially JFaS for the TT shout-out. It's extremely impressive. I don't think anyone could have reasonably expected this much attention in the first few months let alone the first week.
admin Site Manager Posted November 25, 2013 Author Posted November 25, 2013 It's extremely impressive. I don't think anyone could have reasonably expected this much attention in the first few months let alone the first week. We had a couple hundred visits the first day (all from here), and I was really happy with that. The majority of blogs wish to hit 200 visitors in a day, and most will give up before they even reach that point. The fact we did that in our first day alone was great. I said it will probably take months to get some real traction. Take a long time to get expsoure, and attention from other sites. I guess if you put out the quality pieces these guys have, it doesn't take that long. We're over 200 visits for the day already. We have people contacting JFaS to write for them already, nothing paid yet, but I think it's a matter of time.
BabbaGanoush Verified Member Posted November 25, 2013 Posted November 25, 2013 No I did not expect this, just one tweet to tom tango asking him to look at my article and it explodes. I also got emails from two sites asking me to write for them. You must be over the moon dude, congrats!
Laika Community Moderator Posted November 25, 2013 Posted November 25, 2013 Chris, please don't leave too soon. We plan on riding your nerdy coat tails somewhere.
