I think the only problem with this is that there are already so many blue jays blogs out on the internet. To attract people, this blog needs to have something that seperates it from the rest.

 

I'm not sure what but just my opinion anyway.

 

There's always a place for good content. On this board and the old board we've constantly linked to othe rsites that provided good content.

Most Jays fans love to read anything interesting or new.

Also, I really don't think there are many blogs out there that will go into the depth our articles do.

Look at the latest article we put up. It's 3000 words. Then read it, and see the details, and the time put into it.

It's going to be tied into this site as well, so that alone will get it some decent traffic. Then hopefully over time it just grows more and more.

The guys writing are doing it just because they love the Jays, and want to write about them. They're fine with a small audience, some even prefer

to have a small audience.

It'll take some time, but it will become a top blog in time. Of course I'd like to think THE top blog.

Looks good, but I have a suggestion. If a person new to sabremetrics or just trying to understand the whole new system read that article on Bautista, they would turn it off half way through. Fans that understand all the ins and outs always look down their noses at the old "stats". Well why not on each new blog a simple, easily demonstrated description of each new stat and how it is applied.

Yeah we've thought about that. But it's a name that doesn't have to be a reference to the show when it runs it's course. It can always be like 'breaking news'.

We'd just change the logo when needed.

Good catch, I'll fix that. 90% of the work I do is US targeted so I always spell US versions.

I think you could keep the name and change the look of the site once the reference loses currency. I think the name would still work without the show. Kind of the way Tao of Stieb works even though hardly anyone has seen or remembers The Tao of Steve.

Good initial work! I've been finding out the hard way how difficult it is to properly get a site up for the first time, especially the responsive menu system.

 

In terms of constructive criticism, it feels like the color scheme is a little off, and the content on the front page feels a little cramped (not sure if the two are related). Some of the mouse-over stuff may also be a little over the top and be distracting for people.

 

On the article pages, I would personally choose a different font and maybe increase the line and word spacing a little. I've been playing with the Google font 'open sans' and quite like it, although there's lots of other choices to pick from. The text column should probably be made a little narrower on the full screen desktop setting. I've seen some reports that suggest no more than 10 to 12 words per line (although I think that might be a tad low), as going beyond that affects people's concentration due to being forced to move their heads while reading. If you look at a site like Sportsnet.ca along with many of the news sites, that seems to be how they do it as well.

 

It might also be a good idea to either use a different font or font weight for the block quotes, or put them in italics to help them stand out better. The color of blue in the links on the content could probably be a little darker, maybe closer to the block quote blue bar.

 

Interested to hear what you think on some of the ideas, as I'm trying to improve my skills as well (non sports related sites) so hearing from various sources and opinions is helpful.

These are all really good suggestions. I'm not a huge fan of the font myself, for one thing. It does some goofy stuff with numbers in particular.
