burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted September 8, 2014 Posted September 8, 2014 I can't imagine Ray Rice playing a snap this year for any team. Twitter is exploding and it will be a terrible PR move for them not to cut him. Rice will be gone by the end of the day. And this is the big problem. The NFL and to a lesser extent the Ravens are all about protecting their image. If those videos were never made public Ray Rice would of started the game yesterday. They don't care about domestic violence at all, they care about their image and that is why Ray Rice won't play again this season.
z3r0s Old-Timey Member Posted September 8, 2014 Posted September 8, 2014 Guaranteed, every single news outlet is outraged, it's blownup real good, I still don't get it though, what did people think he did in the eleavator in the first place? He dragged her out unconscious, heck, it looked like she was dead? He'll never play ball again, and rightfully so, Goodell dropped the ball, and the NFL looks like a disgrace. This should've been taken care of well before that laughable two game suspension. The shock factor took care of this problem, no doubt. It'll be interesting to see what happens. Ray Rice isn't the first guy to have a domestic abuse incident, but since this one can be seen he'll have the book thrown at him. Pretty sad that the public seeing the incident weighs so heavily on what the punishment is.
Fearthedoc Verified Member Posted September 8, 2014 Posted September 8, 2014 Pretty sad that the public seeing the incident weighs so heavily on what the punishment is. Yep. It shouldn't have been significantly worse from the start, but only now are there talks of re-opening the case and making it harsher. The NFL is saying they didn't see any video before, but even if that's true -- what's the reason they didn't see any video? They dropped the ball big time.
z3r0s Old-Timey Member Posted September 8, 2014 Posted September 8, 2014 Where is this outrage when there is no video of these incidents... that is equally as disappointing Ray Rice isn't the first to do something like this, and won't be the last.
jays_fever Old-Timey Member Posted September 8, 2014 Posted September 8, 2014 Lance Stephenson pushed his girl down a flight of stairs, but wasnt caught on tape. Leagues acting like they actually care is amusing
z3r0s Old-Timey Member Posted September 8, 2014 Posted September 8, 2014 Lance Stephenson pushed his girl down a flight of stairs, but wasnt caught on tape. Leagues acting like they actually care is amusing exactly this. Pathetic, but its not just the league, its all the people who are pretending that they won't stand for this! Clearly you will because it happens WAY too often.

jays_fever Old-Timey Member Posted September 8, 2014 Posted September 8, 2014 too late. not motivated by the proper things. still nice to see. Like their coach can take his "no nonsense moto" and shove it up his ass. Are we really supposed to believe they had no knowledge of what really happened before this? Either back your players through everything or dont. Making rash decisions based on what the social media world is calling for imo makes it look even worse. Though this is the same organization that supported Ray Lewis after he wasnt convicted in court, so it makes sense
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted September 8, 2014 Posted September 8, 2014 While some of you have said that if another player did this without video tape it wouldn't be getting publicity is correct. Look no further than Ray Mcdonald who PLAYED yesterday after having been arrested for domestic violence. This was after Jim Harborough says he would not tolerate Domestic violence. This is a good article about the 49ers and what players get away with. http://blog.sfgate.com/killion/2014/09/07/yes-ray-mcdonald-will-play-today-for-the-49ers/
NorthOf49 Old-Timey Member Posted September 8, 2014 Posted September 8, 2014 Wow the Ravens cut him. Doesn't excuse their prior transgressions on the issue though.
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted September 8, 2014 Posted September 8, 2014 NFL suspends Rice indefinitely. What about Ray Mcdonald, NFL? Does anyone seriously think if there is no video he even gets suspended? Hell no
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted September 8, 2014 Posted September 8, 2014 In other news Robert Mathis tore his Achilles, season over. As a Colts Fan I just died a little.
Caper Verified Member Posted September 8, 2014 Posted September 8, 2014 I wonder what the unforeseen consequences of the NFL's domestic abuse policies will be. Ray Rice is rich, so it doesn't really apply in his case. But what about a guy who might be married and barely starting his career. A domestic abuse charge could very will mean the end of his livelihood..... Which means the abuse victim has to take into account that reporting any incidence means no private school, health insurance, spousal support or anything else.

As a Colts Fan I just died a little. http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2014/09/08/robert-mathis-tears-achilles-tendon/ "Because the injury happened away from the team facility, the Colts could place Mathis on the non-football injury list and withhold this year’s money, setting the stage to part ways with an aging and banged-up player this offseason." More proof that the NFL is American as f***. I mean what could be more capitalistic than that. Guaranteed contracts? That's for commies and baseball players.

It means that future cases will have the player agree to out of court settlement worth a ton of money so they can't get suspended and lose a ton of money potentially. I think the NFL's new policy is for only people convicted of the charge, but I could be wrong.

Especially cutting a guy for cap reasons when he has been a top 5 player for your team for the last decade and a Hall of Famer. Its almost like the NFL's CBA makes it force the Colts to cut him even though he has done so much for the Franchise.
jays_fever Old-Timey Member Posted September 8, 2014 Posted September 8, 2014 ^ This happens all the time, particularly to border line players on the practice squads and reserve roles. At least Mathis has made plenty of money over his career. The randoms who get cut after a football injury are totally f***ed

Spousal assault, DUI, possession of illegal weapons, drug abuse, firing guns in nightclubs, gang ties, outright murders/executions and running dog fighting rings. These are all recent/regular occurrences in the most popular sports league in North America. Pathetic and unbelievable

burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted September 8, 2014 Posted September 8, 2014 It's just so dramatic when it happens to star players like Rice and Hernandez. That post was in reference to Mathis getting injured and most likely cut. NFL contracts are not guarenteed.

immature Verified Member Posted September 9, 2014 Posted September 9, 2014 This may be an unpopular view but I think there is some merit in it. From the video I saw, his girlfriend initiates contact by what looks like two quick jabs to the face, and Ray responds with a half punch half swiping motion to keep her away. He then does the responsible thing and backs away presumably to avoid any further contact. After backing way his girlfriend quickly runs after him with her left arm back preparing herself to swing again. Ray then unfortunately takes a more direct a approach and swings more aggressively but in my opinion in a still somewhat restrained way I am not trying to justify Ray's actions or think he does not deserve any punishment. However I do believe this case is much different than lets say a situation where a man comes home drunk and decides to wail on his wife without restraint for no apparent reason. He does deserve to be suspended, 6 games in my opinion is sufficient, to be kicked out of the league like some of you are advocating I think is wrong.

First of all, if a woman comes at you with anything less than a knife or a gun you should never hit her. Now for the part in bold..It is a different case because not only did he do a very disturbing action but he sat there all along knowing full well what he did and yet he didn't do anything. He should of voluntarily went to jail or at least sat out more than 2 games. For all we know he told his wife not to testify or else he would beat the s*** out of her again...
