Is the NFL supposed to blacklist every player who has a run-in with the law? There has to be a line draw somewhere -- why does the NFL need to be the most morally-upstanding organization in our society? I'm okay with Peterson being back. Maybe if he gets convicted of something tack on an official suspension.

Yeah, pretty much. It seems society holds the NFL to a higher standard than the Justice System though.

I'm sure bigger NFL fans than me will already know this, but I had no idea that Adrian Peterson had already lost a child when his 2 year old son was beaten by the mother's boyfriend. About a year ago.

Yep; that was a very strange story. Apparently he had never actually met that child.

He only meets with this beaten child occasionally, which makes me skeptical of the "it's just normal father-son discipline" idea. The mom lets the kid visit Peterson, and he comes back beaten and emotionally distressed. Not sure what kind of relationship AP thinks he's building with this kid.

I didn't know this either, but it makes one of the quotes I read where the child calls him "Daddy Peterson" make more sense.

It will be interesting to see what kind of reaction he gets leading up to Sunday.

Prediction: someone alters a jersey from "Peterson" to "Beaturson"

I know, it's terrible. But is the solution to just ban all these guys indefinitely? I'm okay with the NFL waiting for more information to come out re: the Peterson case.

IMO public figures shouldn't be held to higher standards than everyone else. They should be held to the same standards.

The incompetence of the Vikings is beyond me. YOU JUST SAW A PR BLOWUP LAST WEEK yet you think it is a good idea for the player to play football. Sponsorship seems to be pulling out which will get the attention of the owner.

I don't know folks, I had my ass whooped as a child, being in my early 40's and all it was normal. Was followed up with a grounding because I was a handful. This dude is beating 3 and 4 year olds, leaving scars and visual injuries, while sticking leaves in the kids mouth, there's an obvious abuse track record. Ray Rice gets caught on tape, he's out indefinitely? There's something very wrong here? Man up Goodell.

There are signs of serious sadism here that hint that despite what Peterson claims this wasn't really about parenting at all.

If you are going to make a show of policing these things, you can't go half way. That's why Ray Rice blew up and this is a similar scenario. Nothing has changed between last week and this week. The rationale for bringing him back would have applied just as much then and similarly whatever reason you had to not play him last week still applies. If you're going to police personal conduct, you need some stricter guidelines in place or you just end up looking like a hypocrite.

I hate when people in the media say I got whooped when I was a kid...Well you know what? Hitting kids to disciplining them isn't right, just like slavery wasn't right but was done in the past. Also, this is a 4 year old child, not a 10 year old. You would think having another kid being beat to death by another man would give you a wake up call that hitting a child is not right.

Reggie Bush supports Adrian Peterson.

http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/football/reggie-bush-defends-adrian-peterson-harshly-discipline-one-year-old-daughter-article-1.1941572

Bush spoke out in favor of the embattled Vikings star Tuesday on WFAN's "Boomer and Carton" show, claiming the severe discipline Peterson meted out to his son was similar to what he experienced as a child. 'I got what we call whoopings.'

I get that this was once considered a somewhat normal way of instilling discipline, but that doesn't mean it still should be. It shouldn't be some nostalgic rite of passage.

The most baffling thing to me is how so many people are using the term "discipline" interchangeably with spanking/whoopings/beatings, as if it is impossible to discipline your children without resorting to violence.

I think the biggest problem is that there are plenty of people who suffered spankings/beatings while growing up and ended up not being *******s, and have likely confused causation with correlation. My guess is that in addition to the beatings, these people also received good non-violent life advice (whether they realize it or not), and that is the real reason they were able to grow up and not be *******s, despite, not because of, the beatings.

There's a debate to be had on the merits of spanking but bringing it up in this context just confuses the issue. Even those who condone spanking would qualify this is as way over the top. The fact that it was so extreme and that he (reportedly) gloated about it suggests that this wasn't a father reluctantly imposing discipline like he'd like us to believe but rather a case of someone taking a rather perverse pride in the abuse of a child.

The NFL has zero tolerance for spousal abuse if it has been caught on tape in its entirety and been made public.

The NFL also has zero tolerance for killing and torturing animals for the exact length of time the offender is incarcerated.

I feel this is a key point that is being missed by some. Spanking /= smacking with a stick.

I said "why's that" when you asked where Goodell was on the subject.

I wish the league and team would say "we're letting the courts handle the incident and at the conclusion of the case we'll take action."

And even if Rice & Peterson were to serve jail time, I'd put money on it there would still be groups pushing for the players to not play another game.

So the Vikings reversed their decision and now are sitting Peterson. At least they made the right decision but holy f*** were they ever stupid. They don't even care about the actual charge but as soon as sponsors start suspending their sponsorship they take new action. Terrible Organization.

Oh boy. Here's the link to the Reggie Bush interview:

I most definitely discipline my daughter. I have a 1-year-old daughter, and I discipline her. Obviously, every person is different, and I definitely will use my best judgement to discipline her depending on the situation and what happens. I definitely will try to obviously not leave bruises or anything like that on her, but I definitely will discipline her, harshly, depending on what the situation is.

What on earth could a 1 year old do that could possible warrant this kind of discipline? Try not to leave bruises...on a baby?

Two things I find unbelievable:

1. Reggie Bush thinks this is reasonable parenting

2. Reggie Bush discussing this in public as casually as if he's talking about the weather

Hum... I'm not exactaly Doctor Spock here, heck I've never even had chidren but I'm pretty sure corporal punishment on a one year old is pointless.

Man the NFL has become a circus over the last couple of weeks with all this BS.

And yet the ratings have hit record highs. The league is not in trouble....at all...despite what all these mouthpieces on ESPN want us to believe. I think most people are rational enough to not let a few *******s ruin the entire sport for them.

Goodell's run should probably be over now though.

The owners like Goodell but it will be pretty hard for them to keep him when dumping him provides such an easy out. The nex commish's task will be to revise the personal conduct policy which ironically was pretty much the first thing Goodell did when he first took over.

Put in the new guy until he has his own P.R. fiasco. Rinse, repeat, print money.
