o2cui2i Community Moderator Posted August 9, 2013 Posted August 9, 2013 Yup. He's taking up a 25-man spot, and will end up putting up like 250 PA without adding wins. There's absolutely no reason to be complacent with getting 0 wins from a 25-man player going forward. Bring someone in who can contribute and not just take up space. Or at least try to do that. AA gets that he needs pitching depth and has middle relievers in the ass, but he seems content with any old s*** on the bench which means any monkey could manage the team. not much guessing about the lineup when you have 3 on the bench (seldom 4) who shouldn't be playing pro ball. then compound that will 3 guys on the field who should be on the bench or in AAAA ball. AA has no f***ing idea what it takes to win.
KSaw Verified Member Posted August 9, 2013 Posted August 9, 2013 Chad Jenkins Todd Redmond Mickey Storey Thad Weber Ryan Goins Mauro Gomez Munenori Kawasaki Moises Sierra 8 excellent DFA candidates. Hopefully Lind will be gone. He has an expensive buy out option but they would still save 5M on his salary and they have to consider that. Would have*** been nice if we could move Izturis, Bonifacio, and DeRosa but it doesn't look like that will happen. Redman, Storey, Weber and Goins will not lose roster spots. Two of them are depth SPs with options and low salaries.

CHRIS Verified Member Posted August 9, 2013 Posted August 9, 2013 Good teams improve on replacement-level players, they don't keep them around because "they haven't been that bad". This reminds me of the time when they handed Thames the starting LF job, not because he earned it, but because he hadn't done anything to lose it. I'm pretty certain we're going to extend DeRosa.

If you really want your jammies russled, go to ESPN's stats and take a look at dwar for all Jays players (this should make people hate baseball reference's WAR even more, which I think is what they use). Interestingly, after looking closer at some of the numbers, Boni might actually rate positive defensively overall if you take away the ~50 innings he's played in center field. Removing the first 2 weeks or so of the season when he was a gong show at 2nd probably puts him above average defensively there too on both B-R and Fangraphs. Now if we could only get that horrid bat going. http://espn.go.com/mlb/team/stats/fielding/_/name/tor/cat/defWARBR/toronto-blue-jays edited: Included the link to ESPN's dwar.

Machado is a 3. http://espn.go.com/mlb/team/stats/fielding/_/name/tor/cat/defWARBR/toronto-

Caper Verified Member Posted August 9, 2013 Posted August 9, 2013 Stupid post. Who is going to be our 5 war player that is going to come to Toronto and sit on the bench?
DuckDuckGose Verified Member Posted August 9, 2013 Posted August 9, 2013 Who is going to be our 5 war player that is going to come to Toronto and sit on the bench? Replacement level guys by definition are AAA quality players. The bench should be filled with 1-2 WAR guy, which aren't good enough to start but too good for the minors.
Caper Verified Member Posted August 9, 2013 Posted August 9, 2013 You really shouldn't troll if your troll posts are only marginally worse than your serious posts. Who is it you want to come to Toronto and sit on the bench?
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted August 9, 2013 Posted August 9, 2013 Who is it you want to come to Toronto and sit on the bench? Eric Chavez is an example of a good bench player. Incredible that you seem to think that DeRosa could only possibly be replaced on the bench by an MVP calibre player. Are you high?
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted August 9, 2013 Posted August 9, 2013 I have no problem with a 2014 bench that includes DeRosa. I like the versatility that he and Izturis provide. An upgrade at 2B with those two on bench would be fine with me.

An upgrade at 2B with those two on bench would be fine with me. I don't think that people mind DeRosa so much. It's more that seeing a young rising player in the role would be nice. I'm not sure that attaching a roster spot to a 24th or 25th man before Spring Training is a very effective way to manage a roster either.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted August 10, 2013 Posted August 10, 2013 Who is it you want to come to Toronto and sit on the bench? Johnny Gomes, Eric Chavez, Jeff Baker, Ryan Rayburn... f***, there was an article on it. 2013's Valuable Bench Pieces | Fangraphs Not that hard.

So you named 4 guys... who have made almost no difference between them and Derossa. And not that hard. I'm sure you would have been singing from the roof tops if back in December if AA signed Ryan Rayburn coming off a season where he ops'd .430 coming off 4 straight years of declining numbers.... I'm sure you completely called that rebound. Yeah I would definitely agree that hindsight is not that hard.
Caper Verified Member Posted August 10, 2013 Posted August 10, 2013 Stupid post from a stupid poster. A win may not seem like a big deal, but I promise that it is. Thanks for that promise... you're exactly right. If we won last night instead of lost, the season would be completely different.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted August 10, 2013 Posted August 10, 2013 So you named 4 guys... who have made almost no difference between them and Derossa. Lol
Caper Verified Member Posted August 10, 2013 Posted August 10, 2013 No, it wouldn't be. But if we won 88 instead of 89 things could be extremely different. Unfortunately, the same process that led to rostering Mark DeRosa has resulted in a wasted season. If you weren't stupid this wouldn't cloud your assessment of the value of a win but, alas, you are stupid. No, starting pitching has led to a wasted season.... that's 90% of it.

Save Dtieb Verified Member Posted August 12, 2013 Posted August 12, 2013 Why put him on waivers to begin with? Yeah, you've got to wonder. Maybe because of the off chance another team might offer a prospect the Jays like.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted August 12, 2013 Posted August 12, 2013 Why put him on waivers to begin with? "club policy" or some s***
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted August 12, 2013 Posted August 12, 2013 "club policy" or some s*** It makes sense. If you put everyone on waivers, no one's feelings are hurt. It also gives the club a chance to gauge other team's interest in various players.
Save Dtieb Verified Member Posted August 12, 2013 Posted August 12, 2013 Maybe De Rosa is being groomed to replace Pat Tabler.

jays_fever Old-Timey Member Posted August 12, 2013 Posted August 12, 2013 And the f***ing circus continues. We werent getting anything good for DeRosa, but what the hell is veteran leadership on a OLD f***ing team that sucks
