Does he mean "improve the ballclub" now or for the future?

I'm scared to think Bautista for Profar was in play and AA didn't bite, thinking the team would be worse in 2014... f***!

I doubt Profar is in play for Texas at all, and I wouldn't want to trade Bautista for anything less.

The rest of our division had no problems getting deals done. We had an excellent trade chip in Bautista which has now been wasted. We had plenty of tradeable assets in the bullpen.

There's no spinning this: AA f***ed up. Badly. End of story.

Bautista's value isn't going down without a major injury. Not to mention there would be so much negative backlash for this team from the casuals.

They supposedly call the Marlins every week about Stanton, no way that they aren't offering Profar in that one.

I agree, can still trade bautista in off season, might even have more teams to trade with. I don't think AA will do it though, maybe at next years deadline when were about 12 games back of wild card. He'll still have value then hopefully.

Bautista is declining and old. Sooner or later, teams will catch on to this and his trade value will plummet.

Worrying about what dumbass casual fans think is no way to run a team. This team's casual fans honestly think JPA is a top 5 catcher in baseball because he hits dingers sometimes and plays for the home team - that just says it all. You think Friedman or Billy Beane give a s*** about casuals' ignorant opinions?

over/under on when the O's release Norris? I'd say that is one of the worst possible locations for him. Lefties kill him, lefties kill that park. I'll say by June next year he'll see time in the minors

If you aren't going to have a good team, you may as well have a profitable one.

Hear you but lefties get owned in Boston too and some find ways to survive.

Pretty clear message sent by GMs across baseball- you can't buy your finishing touches or improve your pens for air at the deadline. Lets see what that kind of stance does to the price of relief arms in the offseason.

The FA options this off-season don't look too awe-inspiring either. Probably as decent a time as ever to have good depth.

Another year older + 1 less year under control on team friendly contract...value has to be going down with every passing year

Oliver can't be traded remember? He's gotta be around so he can be the winning pitcher when the Jays battle in game #163 for the second wild card spot. #20GameWinningStreak

It's not just Toronto. The White Sox, Phillies, Angels and Giants didn't make a splash. In the offseason there are healthier pieces to add to trades and more teams trying to win. Top of head the Mets are expected to be free agent buyers and a team willing to deal for bullpen arms with kids. There's a buyer that wouldn't have been ready today and that's just one example.

Get used to the idea of Bautista retiring as a Blue Jay. Trade value means nothing if you aren't looking to deal.

HAHAHAHA

Btw, you still wanna give Josh Johnson 14 million dollars next year?

Not really, I would have preferred trading him today and not worried about dealing with it. You still think no pitcher who's been as bad as Johnson has never been given $14M?

Oh, BS. Seriously, get a grip. He's an all star with 35 HR / 100 RBI production. Decent right fielder too with more defensive flexibility then most. "Declining" isn't the correct term for someone who simply failed to maintain MVP level production.

Pretty sure Ervin Santana 2012 was as bad as JJ (worse, actually). Then the Royals willingly traded for the right to pay him 13 million. And he's been great for them! Go figure.

You want a serious answer? You absolutely make the qualifying offer and here's why:

1. His history when healthy shows him to be elite

2. His velocity and health have been solid since the triceps injury healed

3. His old injuries have not shown signs of reoccurring and a triceps is not a scare injury

4. His breaking ball movement has been sharp, though his fastball has been flat and this indicates a correctable release point problem

5. He will sign elsewhere if not qualified and while he wouldn't get $13.8 million in 2014, he would get a vested option for the following year in a contract that would make his 2-year average at about the same annual money

6. Good pitchers sometimes have an awful year (Cliff Lee, Bret Saberhagen...)

Casual fans = Majority of the fan base

Winning brings out fans. This team should make moves to make the team better so that it wins more, regardless if those moves mean that fan favourites are dealt.

The worst thing the Jays could ever do is listen to you, dumbass. Who gives a s*** about his trade value, he's a value on the field and under a nice contract for several years. I don't care what he's worth when the deal expires.

If Bautista is "declining and old" well please bring it on I want more of these guys.

HAHA, you flip-flop after 1 start? Embarrasing.

When did I say no bad pitcher has been given a contract like 14 million dollars? Please find me this post.

I've hated Johnson for years you f***in' tool and was opposed to him since day 1 of the deal. I argued that his peripherals point towards him improving...while I'd rather not have to deal with him, if he's on this team you have to offer him the qualifying offer. I don't flip flop very often and certainly haven't in this case. As for the second part, it's possible I get all you trolls mixed up.

Of course you would; you aren't exactly the brightest bulb on here.

Jesus f***ing Christ.

Bautista is an asset, a big asset. However, to make like he's not aging and declining (naturally) into a slightly less valuable asset is completely delusional.

Fat Alice, the damn bullpen isn't the solution to our problems, do something to improve this team.

Moneyball is to exploit the gaps that the market gives you.

The bullpen this year looks like a beauty queen, the next year may look like a $ 20 whore.

Come clean dude. In some posts you sound like a typical islander with a Grade 3 education. And in others like this one, its like you were born here.

Sorry, but this s*** just doesn't come and go.

You make him an offer if you're Boston or New York or some other team with an unlimited payroll.

When 14 million represents more than %10 of your payroll. No. You don't. Not on a hunch. That's just stupid. IT'S THE AL EAST. HE CANNOT PITCH IN THE AL EAST.

He can't pitch in the AL East? Silliness. He's firing flat. He can't pitch anywhere until he rights himself. You wouldn't give $13.8 million to a guy to ensure you keep him, when at least 20 teams would give him $10.5 million or more for next year? And they would.

Which AL East team made a trade you liked ? You are seriously contradicting yourself because they were all trying to add veteran help and you've been telling the Jays to do the OPPOSITE for months.
