Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted July 14, 2013 Posted July 14, 2013 AA may as well bring ex-Jay (our former Ace) back to TO during the off-season. I'm totally on board with that IF it's done early in the off-season and Halladay is put immediately on the Delabar program (and if the contract isn't stupid).
8D Verified Member Posted July 15, 2013 Posted July 15, 2013 It's interesting that Chris Davis was traded by the Rangers along with Tommy Hunter to the O's for Koji Uehara. This is exactly the sort of trade AA should be looking to make and he has more than one reliever to trade so let's hope he sees that even with a good bullpen, his team sucks. Fun to look back: http://www.baseballprospectus.com/article.php?articleid=14673 80-power... mah gawd!!!

This is exactly the type of trade I'm hoping the Jays do. Janssen might be our Uehara in this scenario.

At the plate, Davis has elite-level power potential (80), but the swing has a lot of miss in it, he struggles with pitch recognition, and loads up every swing like he is swinging for his life. It’s a bad approach and exploitable at the higher levels. He could run into 30-plus bombs if he could make enough contact, but the strikeout totals make Rob Deer feel better about himself. Davis is also a player that lives in a very small sample, meaning he lets single at-bats linger in his thoughts, affecting the subsequent adjustments that need to be made as the game (or even at-bat) continue. In simpler terms: Davis is hard on himself and it can affect his performance.

8D Verified Member Posted July 15, 2013 Posted July 15, 2013 As a tweener type (for now), Davis needs to have as many major-league opportunities as possible to help end the Quad-A debate. If he can shorten his stroke and refine his approach to put himself in better situations to hit, Davis can put up stupid power numbers. I think he's doing this now

Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted July 15, 2013 Posted July 15, 2013 Not fair. Dotel and scrabble helped the Cards win the WS. Dotel and Zep weren't factor in that World Series.

ElNik2013 Old-Timey Member Posted July 15, 2013 Posted July 15, 2013 AA did it first (Rasmus for s***) That's another example. Let's hope he pulls another trade like that one.
Caper Verified Member Posted July 15, 2013 Posted July 15, 2013 Dotel and Zep weren't factor in that World Series. I don't know if they were a factor in the playoffs... but I'm sure they stabilized the bull pen enough to help the cards get there. I'm not even sure if they were in a playoff spot at the time of the trade.
DuckDuckGose Verified Member Posted July 15, 2013 Posted July 15, 2013 I'd like to say that there is a 0% chance of this happening, but AA's trade history won't let me. - Traded young assets for 1/2 a year of Brandon Lyon, when the team had virtually no chance of making the playoffs. - In the Dickey trade, dealt a heck of a lot for 1 year of control, showing that he'll include extensions (contingent or possible) into his trade calculus. Assuming the Cubs can't get a type A prospect for Garza, in a Wheeler-for-Beltran type of rental raping, then I could see AA sending B pieces for him and trying hard to get an extension done. Because, you know, Garza had a decent ERA for a few years in the AL East back when he was on the other side of his physical prime. Ugh #LOLThisTeam! Cubs have been talking with Garza's reps for awhile now too. If the trade talks heat up AA will at least know exactly what Garza is asking for before he pulls the trigger.

AA would be setting himself up for getting bent over again if he's involved in trade talks for Garza.

If the trade hinges on an extension I think he'd absolutely know, if AA is just dealing for a rental then he'll talk to the agent when he lands him.

If they did they wouldn't be stupid enough to burn bridges by making s*** up.

I'd be shocked if AA gets Garza and probably dismayed at what he would have given up to get him. We'll see what happens. AA trades aren't usually rumored a few days before they happen. I hope he trades high on his bullpen pieces and gets a Rasmus type player in return.

Anyway, I doubt AA is involved in getting Garza.
ElNik2013 Old-Timey Member Posted July 15, 2013 Posted July 15, 2013 Why wouldn't he be? He still believes we can make a playoff push If he believes that then he's setting himself up to be bent over again, like I said before. At this point, you go with what you already overpaid for and hope for the best, it makes no sense to give up what little is left of your once highly touted farm system when you're 8-9 games out of a playoff spot, but hey, he's the GM.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted July 15, 2013 Posted July 15, 2013 Why wouldn't he be? He still believes we can make a playoff push 2-3 weeks ago he did. I'm sure he's more realistic now
The_DH Verified Member Posted July 15, 2013 Posted July 15, 2013 I think it's more like they're trying to gauge the market for JJ and leverage off that trade.

If I remember right they were pretty much out of it at the time of the trade, and it took an epic collapse by another team for them to even squeak in.

Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted July 15, 2013 Posted July 15, 2013 Garza Likely To Be Traded This Week 12:51pm: Kaplan is hearing that Garza will be moved by Saturday, though the Cubs will still make sure that someone meets their price as opposed to rushing a trade. One AL scout tells Kaplan that the Cubs are in a "phenomenal spot to land a tremendous deal" because Garza has looked so strong of late ookoko
eastcoastjaysfan Old-Timey Member Posted July 15, 2013 Posted July 15, 2013 This could get super ugly, super fast.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted July 15, 2013 Posted July 15, 2013 This could get super ugly, super fast. Yep I don't know what to hope for Garza with an extension = good, but why would be agree to one for a new team when he won't for the Cubs? Garza with no extension = completely useless for us I'd guess the Rangers or Indians land him TBH. Makes more sense for them.
