admin Site Manager Posted July 5, 2013 Posted July 5, 2013 God, just shut your mouths already, this is embarrassing. Yeah it's been two months, because he's been terrible the whole year. Pretty good article. Really threw some stats out there. I think this incident is really opening the eyes of some of the casual fans that thought he was so amazing.
JFD Old-Timey Member Posted July 5, 2013 Posted July 5, 2013 so Lind needs to go now too.. anyone else want to say something stupid?

JFD Old-Timey Member Posted July 5, 2013 Posted July 5, 2013 pretty obvious what the players think of this organization saying stuff like this. Most of them probably want out of this gong show.

Blow everything up except the owners and the coaching staff. Fire everyone else and ship half the team
havok24 Old-Timey Member Posted July 5, 2013 Posted July 5, 2013 Is this real life?? Adam Lind and JPA Arencibia of all people? A terrible season continues to get more embarrassing. f*** this.

Chappy Community Moderator Posted July 5, 2013 Posted July 5, 2013 LOL this is getting ridiculous. They just need to play ball and shut the f*** up. Can't this organization get some control over the players?

Can't this organization get some control over the players? This has literally become a soap opera. Is this f***ing Days of our Lives or something? What a f***ing clown show.

Buster Verified Member Posted July 5, 2013 Posted July 5, 2013 It's a good thing those guys don't come on this forum. Dirk and Zaunie are downright polite relative to how knowledgeable fans feel.

I guess as long as this distracts from the horrible play on the field and current losing streak, they don't mind.
Tuco Verified Member Posted July 5, 2013 Posted July 5, 2013 LOL this is getting ridiculous. They just need to play ball and shut the f*** up. Can't this organization get some control over the players? This is entirely on AA. He's put together just a awful group of charachters that seem more worried about fancy dance moves and amount of twitter followers then actually winning baseball games. Theres just a blatent lack of professionalism on the team and it seems like this team just shows up whenever they feel like it. This is what you get when you put together a roster full of bad apples or guys who really only care about themselves. The sad part is that you almost get the feeling its actually going to even get worse from here on out.

And a lot of times I can't distinguish whether the player has any feelings towards it. Seems like they just list it like it's off a check list or categorize it as "charity" as long as they spend enough time with sick ppl, poor ppl, or disadvantaged ppl. Or when they brag on twitter or wherever about how they spent time with a "kid with cancer." "Hey bros, I just visited kids with cancer and now I feel better about myself. See, I'm a humanitarian too!" Not entirely directed at JPA, but I swear sometimes that's how it is when I see him mention these things.
eastcoastjaysfan Old-Timey Member Posted July 5, 2013 Posted July 5, 2013 AA knows he has a bunch of mouth breathing egomaniacs on his team.... However, instead of addressing the issue and bringing in talented players with character... he just throws a little vetrin presents at the situation and hopes for the best (DeRosa, Vizquel) It also doesnt help when your supposed "leader" has the worst reputatuon in the bigs among managers and umps for being a massive whiny pussy.
Flashman Verified Member Posted July 5, 2013 Posted July 5, 2013 One of the most revealing things to come of all this is learning that analysts and commentators are expected to show themselves in the dressing room after criticising players. Something to do with 'integrity'. Something to bear in mind any time one accuses such people of being 'corporate homers'; it's more likely they don't want to face the players. Considering this, it also makes more sense as to why Wilner supposedly cojone'd-up to criticise Cito: because he was being briefed off-the-record by the players that they had no time for him. Sycophantic actions. I never bought into the idea that Wilner was some rebel who had been silenced by The Man, but there was always a hole in the narrative. Now it all makes sense to me. What. A. Shitshow.
eastcoastjaysfan Old-Timey Member Posted July 5, 2013 Posted July 5, 2013 Like what are Zaun and Hayhurst supposed to say? JPA is having a good year? Are they just supposed to lie to their viewers? These guys are more insecure than teenage girls. Jesus...

These guys are more insecure than teenage girls. Jesus... They ARE supposed to lie to their viewers. That's the whole point. I have listened to countless TV, radio and podcast broadcasts, but I do not ever recall hearing that critical analysts/pundits are supposed to face the players in the changing rooms. To me, that is shocking and borders on censorship. This whole thing has been a clusterf***, but I'm really glad that it happened. It's been a real eye-opener. Now I understand why so many broadcasters act as nothing more than apologists for poor baseball.

Now I understand why so many broadcasters act as nothing more than apologists for poor baseball. These past 2 seasons have been a crash course that things like Charachter, professionalism and hard work really matter in pro sports. It prolly even matters more in a sport like baseball where you have to spend basically everyday of the week with these players. If this was a video game and the overall team was ranked on categories like Talent, upside they'd fare well but they would rank at the absolute bottom if there was a category classified as "intangibles". Man you just watch teams like STL or DET and they just go about their business. No shennigans. No dancing and silly celebrating. No constant off the field problems. I remember my uncle once telling me (who runs his how company) that he would rather a bunch of hard working consistant workers over more talented but lazy ones. We basically have a high maintenance roster. A tons of guys who "if everything goes right" could be stars. We just dont have enough solid day in day out PROS. I cant recall watching a pro sports team that seemed so immature and selfish but whats more worrisome is it doesnt even look like management thinks its a issue and they just allow this behavior to continue without anyone laying down the hammer. I think it all starts with AA. He just doesnt seem cutout to be a lead dog. His inability to put together a consistant functioning team after this many years is hard to believe.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted July 5, 2013 Posted July 5, 2013 LOL: "But add it all up and Arencibia is really good at hitting home runs – his 15 round-trippers leads all MLB catchers – and really good at talking, be it on radio, in person or via Twitter. But otherwise there is room for improvement."

Tuco Verified Member Posted July 5, 2013 Posted July 5, 2013 I don't understand why people keep bringing up how Zaun and Hayhurst were as players. That is totally irrelevant, being good or bad as a player has no bearing on if you can criticize or know someone is playing poorly as an analyst. Are they dumb players? Half this roster comes across as soft, thin skinned whiners. This is a professional sports team that is having PMS because some of the tv analysts talked badly about there very underwhelming performances? They need to start acting like adults and not teenage highschoolers.

That is totally irrelevant, being good or bad as a player has no bearing on if you can criticize or know someone is playing poorly as an analyst. Are they dumb players? What has become clear in the last 24 hours is that most players across baseball will be like this. Why? Because of the ******** unwritten rules for the media. This revelation that critics are expected to go to the clubhouse to face those they criticised is censorship through intimidation. I don't think the players are dumb -- they must know they are playing poorly to have such defensive reactions.
bendera3 Verified Member Posted July 5, 2013 Posted July 5, 2013 Like what are Zaun and Hayhurst supposed to say? JPA is having a good year? Are they just supposed to lie to their viewers? These guys are more insecure than teenage girls. Jesus... Yes. Lie. Lie big. JPA has been one of the best catchers in the league for the few years he's been in the bigs. Lind has been one of the top 1st basemen in the American League since 2006. I understand that nobody likes to be criticized but if they didn't want to be in the spot light they should just retire from playing and start coaching or something. Or analyzing I'd be interested on what they would say about a catcher who can't hit or provide decent defense or a first baseman who has underperformed much of his career. I'm going to guess that they'd say the same thing has Zaun and Hayhurst.
wilko Old-Timey Member Posted July 5, 2013 Posted July 5, 2013 Lind goes on a hot streak and builds up enough courage to bad mouth Zaun/Hayhurst. The guy's been borderline DFA the past few seasons.J PA going off again to the media digging a deeper hole for himself. Asked if he regrets bringing up the PED use because he has someone on his team that was suspended for it. "No, and I talked to him soon as I saw him. And there was no intent on him and he completely understood my point." Basically saying you're taking a shot at Zaun, but not Melky?
TheHurl Site Manager Posted July 5, 2013 Posted July 5, 2013 This ******** you have to have played the game to know the game is f***ing embarrassing. You've got a manager that has 57 MLB PA's, a hitting coach that had no more than a cup of coffee in the bigs. You've got a GM that never played a professional game. These kinds of statements are undermining each of these people's ability to analyse baseball you f***ing idiot! And people think this board is bad on people that have differing opinions.
bendera3 Verified Member Posted July 5, 2013 Posted July 5, 2013 Yeah there really isn't a 'point' there. He said he doesn't respect anyone who takes PEDs. Melky took PEDs. He's okay with Melky. Doesn't make any sense. Melky doesn't need his respect. He's a better player.

It's pretty idiotic to judge knowledge by how well someone played. Many, many great managers, coaches, scouts and analysts have been failed players. Natural physical gifts and knowledge are not the same. I'd even expect that less gifted players had to work harder, learn more and experience more finite coaching during their playing days and would be better judges of what's what on a ball field. There's a reason Ricky Henderson is not a coach or a TV analyst. I suppose that he should be by JPA and Lind logic.
