At the same price, who would you choose to build a franchise.

Trout: 5 tools guy (10 WAR season)

Harper: Gamer, 8/8 power

Machado: Stud in a premium position. A rare piece and hard to find.

Puig: 5 tools guy (following the Trout steps.)

Trout is the best player in baseball. So him.

Don't make me laugh.

Buxton vs. The X man is a pretty legit debate. Along with John Tavares' hispanic cousin, they're probably 2 of the top 3 prospects.

Trout. Pretty easy choice for me.

what about "stud in a premium position"?

Machado is a great piece

Pretty hard not to go with Trout imo, since every part of his game is dynamic. I'm not sold on Machado like a lot of people are, at least not on him being elite. I want to see how Puig responds when he has his first major slump before I'd even consider taking him over Trout, and same with Harper's knee.

A little OT but I'm really tired of the media trying to promote Puig as the "next Trout". There is no next Trout. What he's doing right now is unheard of; he's a legendary talent.

So yeah, Trout for me.

Quiet, I won't let evidence stand in the way of this unstoppable hype train.

Taking a page out of Northof49's playbook. He wouldn't even have picked him had I not taken Rendon the pick before.

Trout and Puig aren't even really similar players. The Bo Jackson comp, as optimistic as it is, is a way better comp. Plus everybody knows you can't have cross-racial comps.

I probably would have taken Correa if Nox hadn't persuaded me to Buxton.

Exactly. NJH teaches that in his Internetting 101 class.

Buxton is in another galaxy compared to Correa.

I still believe that if he can stay healthy Harper at least stays even with Trout over his career. But it's going to be hard for him to stay healthy without changing how he plays. Machado has been fantastic but he's never been a great BABIP guy in the minors so to think he's going Rod Carew it out there and carry his numbers with a .370 BABIP just doesn't seem reasonable. I think the BB% will improve and he'll be a good player for his career but I don't think he'll be in the same discussion as Trout or Harper.

Not really.

147 wRC+ for a 1994 bday playing SS in A ball is pretty elite.

Buxton's been better, but Correa is pretty awesome himself.

Ang has been looking to add Puerto Rico to his hatred resume.

I love the puerto ricans. The Beltran's wife is from San Pedro de Macoris, she is friend of my family.

I agree with this, IMO Trout and Harper will be really close value-wise (pending health issues of course), one's got easily 5 tools, the other has crazy power and the other 5 above-average at least tools in which he can and probably will improve upon. Machado's great but I think he may be a notch below the first two. Puig's got a SSS and while I would love for my fellow countryman to keep it going he's likely not going to, however he's also fairly young and could really continue to make an impact on the league, so hopefully he still can carry out like Cespedes once his numbers start to drop to realistic measures.

Trout can post the same value, if not more. All are controllable for a few years (Puig's under contract so it's a bit different) while Miggy earns the bucks and surely to be near Pujols level when his next FA year comes by.

Edit: This was a response to Dick_Pole's post.

Miggy...back-to-back triple crown, bros, soon to be back-to-back MVP :)

at the half way point I won't even argue (although he won't be triple crown) he's been the best hitter in baseball by far. The OP did say Long term and I don't see Miggy being the same player at 35 as he is right now and Harper and Trout still won't be reaching their prime. It won't surprise me if one of those two puts up a 12 win season. Harper's 21 year old season was on pace to be much better than Miggy's great 21 year old season just based on offense alone...and we all know how great Trout's age 21 season was.
