jays_fever Old-Timey Member Posted May 8, 2016 Posted May 8, 2016 If the Cavs sweep and the Raps win in 5, then would they push up the East Finals even if the West isn't settled yet? Yep. The West finals would then be every second day while the ECF would have 3 days off multiple times.
Frag Verified Member Posted May 8, 2016 Posted May 8, 2016 Whiteside is day-to-day with a sprained MCL. Could make this series interesting.
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted May 8, 2016 Posted May 8, 2016 Even if Whiteside is out for the series thats a bad tradeoff for the Raps.
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted May 8, 2016 Posted May 8, 2016 Ah you hope Lowry can take control of the series and that Bis can step up in JV's absence and avoid foul trouble. We saw Bis hold his own when JV was out before during the season.
jays_fever Old-Timey Member Posted May 8, 2016 Posted May 8, 2016 Bis is better than any big the Heat have other than Whiteside. Haslem if awful

Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted May 8, 2016 Posted May 8, 2016 How is it a rather silly custom? I'm anxious to hear this explanation. What's the relationship between an anthem and a professional sport game? The practice started way back when pretty much the only music people heard was live..... was just an additional entertainment factor to put bums in the seats. Today, just a waste of time.

crazy47larry Verified Member Posted May 8, 2016 Posted May 8, 2016 How is it a rather silly custom? I'm anxious to hear this explanation. What is the point of it? Why is it even there to begin with? What connection does this game of baseball (or basketball or whatever) or people doing their jobs (these are PROFESSIONAL athletes) have to do with nationalism? This is not Canada vs Russia. This is Toronto vs Miami. Do YOU ever see the national anthem played literally anywhere else? The only other place it is played is in schools which are generally government run and funded. Plus I understand the thought process of governments ingraining kids with that nationalism early and often. How is it not? Thats what I am anxious to hear.

jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted May 9, 2016 Posted May 9, 2016 With JV out this series, will the Raps dress Lucas Nogueira to backup Bis? He had some good games when he played at times this season off the bench.
jays_fever Old-Timey Member Posted May 9, 2016 Posted May 9, 2016 Jason Thompson would be the 4th big, though he shoulb be ahead of Scola. He was already active

I was just answering as to what will actually happen though. Scola is going to get his 25 minutes again for some reason

nmrch Verified Member Posted May 9, 2016 Posted May 9, 2016 Even if Whiteside is out for the series thats a bad tradeoff for the Raps. I dunno, i think both teams break even. Whiteside is a monster, yes JV has done decently 1 v 1 against him but its not that lopsided of a matchup and Whiteside is miles ahead as a help defender. The way i see it the Heat take a huge hit defensively and a small hit offensively, the Raps take a small hit defensively and its a decent sized hit offensively. JV has improved as a pick and roll defender but he just isn't there yet as a shot blocking presence. Without Whiteside its open season around the rim for the Raps, Lowry and co should be able to take advantage of that.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted May 9, 2016 Posted May 9, 2016 Is Whiteside really a "monster?" I'm still undecided on this myself. I don't think blocks are as important as most make them out to be.

Limited offensive game too

You're right that blocks aren't everything but he is an intimidating presence around the rim and he alters a lot of shots. OTH, he's not an "anchor" like Marc Gasol and can't be relied on all aspects of defence.

Limited offensive game too Of course JV is better, I'm just not sure if Whiteside is generally as good as people think. I've been wanting to study blocks for a while. Seems like a lot of the time it just ends up with the ball in the hands of the same team in a different scoring chance.

The reason i say Whiteside isn't a true anchor is because a true all around defensive player does more than act as a lane intimidator. In today's NBA pick and roll defence is as important as protecting the rim on drives, he's also slow on rotations and doesn't have the overall instincts on defence that someone like Marc Gasol does. Having said all that, he's truly elite at blocking shots and altering shots, that's a valuable and rare skill. JV right now has become a much better defender on the pick and roll, its really noticeable in the post season compared to previous years. His 1 v 1 defence against other bigs is okay but his shotblocking presence and other aspects of help defence need to get better.
