NBA Deputy Commish in 1996 (in reference to Abdul-Rauf staying in the dressing room for the U.S. Anthem.

 

NBA deputy commissioner Russ Granik said Tuesday that Abdul-Rauf violated a league rule that requires players, coaches and trainers to "stand and line up in a dignified posture" during the U.S. and Canadian anthems.

 

"The NBA's rule on this point is very clear, and all our rules apply equally to all players," he said.

 

 

Time to see if the "and Canadian" actually means something in his statement.

I didn't even know this happened. I remember something was off during the anthem, but I couldn't quite put my finger on it.
