connorp Old-Timey Member Posted June 20, 2013 Posted June 20, 2013 I didn't see a thread talking about possible acquisitions if we're buyers. I saw a tread thread but it was kind of discussing possibilities if we're sellers. It's almost time to start considering adding something to stay competitive.. but can you do it without mortgaging the future more? Any thoughts on guys we could go after? Personally, I like Eric Chavez. Getting ready to come off a DL stint but has been a nice bat for a couple years now (Well he's always been a nice bat but been steady last couple years in older age).. Bad UZR this year is most likely sss. No real place for him with Hill coming back now too.. and Prado making $40m.. they might keep him for the depth but also might be willing to move him for something halfway decent (but nothing major)..... also maybe make Lawrie play 2b for the month and change left in the season when he gets back.. This lineup is sexy: Reyes JB Chavez Edwin Lind Melky Rasmus Lawrie JPA
connorp Old-Timey Member Posted June 20, 2013 Author Posted June 20, 2013 Of course.. on the flip side is AA made a total s*** deal with the Happ fiasco.. and Jays could be eyeing another SP.. so maybe the hope should be they don't do anything.
KSaw Verified Member Posted June 20, 2013 Posted June 20, 2013 Make a too good to refuse offer to Houston for Jason Castro.
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted June 20, 2013 Posted June 20, 2013 if the white sox don't turn it around soon i'd be enquiring about Konerko EE LF, Lind/Konerko 1B/DH a surplus RP will get it done with no impact to the team
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted June 20, 2013 Posted June 20, 2013 Cliff Lee. Take too much to get him, and I don't see the Jays needing SP come the trade deadline
Chappy Community Moderator Posted June 20, 2013 Posted June 20, 2013 if the white sox don't turn it around soon i'd be enquiring about Konerko EE LF, Lind/Konerko 1B/DH a surplus RP will get it done with no impact to the team I would pass on Konerko at this point.

saskjayfan Old-Timey Member Posted June 20, 2013 Posted June 20, 2013 Howie Kendrick I thought Kendrick...but he's having a career year and he still has a couple not so cheap years on his contract.....what about Utley as a rental..assuming he's healthy when the deadline hits..lol.
Dr Negative Verified Member Posted June 20, 2013 Posted June 20, 2013 I doubt the Phillies guys wave their ntc to come to Toronto.
saskjayfan Old-Timey Member Posted June 20, 2013 Posted June 20, 2013 I doubt the Phillies guys wave their ntc to come to Toronto. Utely's a free agent at the end of the year...if the jays were in it the playoff hunt and the phillies were out of it....there's worse places than toronto to spend a few months...
IronLadle Verified Member Posted June 20, 2013 Posted June 20, 2013 I just hope we don't pay through the nose again in another Dickey type deal
dineke Old-Timey Member Posted June 20, 2013 Posted June 20, 2013 Cliff Lee is the full package compared to Dickey.
KSaw Verified Member Posted June 20, 2013 Posted June 20, 2013 No one likes the idea of going after Castro?
Ziggyy108 Verified Member Posted June 20, 2013 Posted June 20, 2013 IMO our 3 biggest needs are 2B / Catcher / and you can always use an stup starting pitcher. Phillies can offer all 3 Cliff Lee - Chase Utley - Carlos Ruiz ....... Its a damn shame we wasted out TDA bullet, a top 10 prospect in baseball who plays an elite position, for a below average s*** baller. I think Dickey can become a decent back end of the rotation guy the next couple years .... But we gave up a f***ing elite package to get him. As far as those 3 guys mentoned above. Holy s*** that would make our team really f***ing good. Not sure what the package would be though. If we were to make a run at Cliff Lee, we would almost certainly have to flip Buehrle. Those 2 combined would be making close to 50 million next year. Cliff Lee would be such a massive upgrade on Buehrle though.
Ziggyy108 Verified Member Posted June 20, 2013 Posted June 20, 2013 Another package of players that id like to see would be from the Brewers. Yovani Gallardo / Aramis Ramirez / Jonathon Lucroy Not sure Lucroy could be had, but definately the other two for the right price.
Ziggyy108 Verified Member Posted June 20, 2013 Posted June 20, 2013 If were gonna make a serious run we definately need to grab another big bat. Our lineup definately has a lot of talent but we have just too many inconsistent hitters.

Yovani Gallardo / Aramis Ramirez / Jonathon Lucroy Not sure Lucroy could be had, but definately the other two for the right price. He'd be a nice get for 3rd base, but I think we're forced to run with Lawrie. No point creating controversy while we're on this roll. Gallardo would be nice, but he'll cost too much.
Ziggyy108 Verified Member Posted June 20, 2013 Posted June 20, 2013 Lawrie could play second if Aramis was picked up ...
Tuco Verified Member Posted June 20, 2013 Posted June 20, 2013 Lee certainly makes sense if ownership is willing to spend even more money.
John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted June 20, 2013 Posted June 20, 2013 I might check in on a guy like Garza. Injury concerns sure but he's still a better option than Happ ... And Buerhle. His value is also low and wouldn't cost a top prospect
GD Old-Timey Member Posted June 20, 2013 Posted June 20, 2013 Scott Feldman, Dustin Ackley, Rick Porcello, Drew Smyly, Alex Avila, Gordon Beckham, Scott Baker, Ricky Nolasco, Jake Peavy, Chase Utley, Matt Garza, Carlos Ruiz, Huston Street, Andrew Cashner, Aramis Ramirez, Yovani Gallardo, Jon Lucroy. Those are all guys we could buy on imo.
Pete_7 Verified Member Posted June 20, 2013 Posted June 20, 2013 First player that comes to mind for me is Utley. Fills a need and AA and Amaro have done some deals in the past
Slade Old-Timey Member Posted June 20, 2013 Posted June 20, 2013 I think the Jays are good on the pitching side, it's the hitting the will need to improve going down the stretch. Only spots they can upgrade right now without losing anything major is 2B, 3B or catcher. Not many options for any of those.
bzapple Verified Member Posted June 20, 2013 Posted June 20, 2013 An Utley + Ruiz package would make a lot of sense.
DuckDuckGose Verified Member Posted June 20, 2013 Posted June 20, 2013 An Utley + Ruiz packathe would make a lot of sense. Perhaps Espinosa and Haren makes sense if the Nat's decide to sell?
GD Old-Timey Member Posted June 20, 2013 Posted June 20, 2013 An Utley + Ruiz package would make a lot of sense. I have a feeling Amaro has an affinity for JPA's RBIz. JPA + Nolin = Utley + Ruiz?
GD Old-Timey Member Posted June 20, 2013 Posted June 20, 2013 Perhaps Espinosa and Haren makes sense if the Nat's decide to sell? Just read that the Nats probably aren't gonna replace Haren on MLBTR and Espinosa is coming off an injury. Plus, Haren hasn't been great, has he?
