The only thing I can think of is AA and his scouts didn't think any of the hitters this year would amount to anything and he's trying to acquire all the trade able assets he can by drafting all these high upside pitchers.

What are the other teams drafting?

My bet is the 52nd round for a hitting prospect. He will be a catcher that in high school in Russia hit .220 with 30 bombs, but he projects to be JPA light.

I probably didn't explain myself well enough. What I'm saying is that if AA and his scouts didn't view any of the hitters this year as impact players at the major league level in the future, he may be willing to draft pitcher heavy this draft and collect his more valuable assets (at least in his mind) and completely disregard hitters until later in the draft and fill up the rosters with org guys.

I understand your point very well, it just doesn't really make sense. We're talking about 9 rounds worth of hitters and we don't think ANY of them are going to amount to anything? Time to hire new scouts.

Even if we did select the best player available at those slots, I really don't have any confidence in our player development to develop these kids anyway.

That makes two of us.

I was trying to figure out how much pool space (if any) we might have saved on a few of our picks. I figure Bickford and Hollon more or less go for slot. Bickford reportedly wanted 3mm and slot at 10 is 2.9mm. I'm not sure what Hollon's value overall is, but he has a commitment to Kentucky so I figure he's at least slot as well.

The picks from the 3rd round through the 10th are worth $2,308,600 in total ($2,424,030 if you take the 5% overage)

For each of the guys I tried to find comparables from last years draft just see what we might be able to sign them for. That' what I based most of the bonus figures on. It's not scientific obviously, it's pure guesswork at this point so bear with me.

83) Patrick Murphy $325,000

115) Evan Smith $350,000

145) Daniel Lietz $50,000

175) Matt Boyd $200,000

205) Connor Greene $300,000

235) Kendall Graveman $50,000

265) Chad Girodo $5,000

295) Garrett Custons $5,000

The total spent is $1,285,000 which would give us $1,139,030. That should be enough to pay one guy at 1.2mm or 2 guys at 650k (picks after the 10th get 100,000 without counting against the cap). If we can sign the guys above for even less than what I have that gives us quite a bit more to spend tomorrow.

We passed on every single relevant hitting prospect in the draft. How alarming is that.

yeah, but they gots themselves some ath-a-letes with soft hands and strong hips. Tabler will be so happy.

I almost choked when the idiot they have doing MLB-tv said that the jays were good at developing young players. since when? f***ing news to most jays fans.

We seriously went pitching with our first 9 picks. This f***ing team.

I need reassurance that AA hasn't lost his mind, can you give me that?

Really want this whole F.O. to be wiped out.

lol I heard Jamie mention 9/9 with pitchers. Didnt even believe it. Came on here to confirm. Literally mind blowing

Alex is just waiting on the next Jose and Edwin. He's shortened his list down to two candidates. Bonifacio and Rajai. I mean, that's how you develop hitters right?

Yeah so you guys admit you only do one thing particularly well which isn't even true to begin with?

Lol wtf... I was listening to Tim and Sid the other day and they mentioned that the Jays should draft all pitchers and thought that was retarded but that's exactly what the Jays did Ahahahaha.

Develop high ceiling arms and trade them for crappy veterans.

After seeing Ortiz, Laffey and Jenkins pitching, AA said: "We need to draft pitchers, pitchers to build a great and depth farm"

On my phone and not going through thread. After reading Nox' theory about stocking up on hitters early on........ Wanted to see how much he was raging

Just don't care enough to fully rage. It's honestly laughable.

Who in our system is a legit position player prospect? Who?

f*** me sideways.

I hate everything. Everyone I want. Gone. Martarano, Martinez (I think), Whitson and maybe another 1 or two are the only ones who remain. Pitcher after pitcher after pitcher. All injured. The only ones that seems good are Boyd and Greene. The Rays and Athletics can go f*** themselves. This is a complete disaster.

PROGECTABILLLITY, folks.

The draft has been SP heavy.......simply because it's a weak draft, there's still no excuse for sliding past so many bats.

You're right, there are a lot of teams that went heavily on SP. I took a look and 11 teams other than the Jays took at least 7 pitchers out of their 10 picks. There were none other with 9 (I don't think) but pretty sure that there 3-4 more that drafted 8 pitchers.
