Gump currently 5th in the AL for qualified CF at 1.9 WAR (ahead of Adam Jones)... On pace for 4.5-5 WAR

 

The right play is to dump Melky to release the Gose. Gump is starting to look like the real deal.

With Gose' struggles in the minors (though he didn't seem to be overpowered in his short call-up) I'm content with holding on Rasmus. He seems to have really cut down on his strike outs.

Gose isn't going to spend his first full season in the Majors as a starter. He's going to take over the Rajai Davis role in 2014 after Davis becomes a free agent.

It seems like EE has always had a pretty good glove at 3rd, it's just the throws that mess him up. I don't think it's a solution for the entire year, but if we could do something like this for a month or so it might help get Melky's legs back on track. That would take us to the point when trades are a more realistic possibility.

In the past EE should have never played third, but now we literally dont have any other good options out there. Izzy and Derosa cant field or hit. Even if Edwin throws balls over Linds head, he's still probably a better defender than Izzy over there. It also allows us to take the plague that is Melky out of the outfield and put in Gose

Normally I wouldn't be as concerned about the defense (especially in LF), but Melky is moving so poorly atm that putting Gose out there might literally save a hit a game.

Intriguing but unlikely. Too many people shifting positions mid-season.

Rasmus is now tied for 10th in CF fWAR with 1.7.

That last component out of the three is the most important.....I don't think gose will ever be a good hitter. I wasn't sure about Rasmus, but his at bats have been so much better lately. He is being more selective and taking the odd walk.

I've heard him say in the past that a lot of his struggles in the 2nd half were due to overtraining. I remember at times his swing was so flat and lifeless and that could definitely be a possibility. I just hope it's not more of a mental thing like most Cards fans suggest, cause those would be harder to overcome IMO.

Contact rates haven risen steadily... Went from being dead last by a mile to only 10th worst in the bigs!

 

He's pretty much at his career norms for everything.... LD% FB/GB... BB%.... He's just striking out more and hitting for a ton more power.

 

FG also has him as their 8th best defensive CF this year

I don't like that idea in terms of asset management. The only real way I see both Rasmus and Gose in the outfield is if AA somehow manages to get a huge haul for Bautista - preferably a legit SP - but I doubt it will happen.

Probably the smartest base runner on the team. That was one of a few times over the last couple weeks I noticed him on the base paths. You could tell he had his mind set to go home.

The catch he made in the 9th last night in the gap, he made look very easy, but that was hit deep. He looked like a f***ing gazelle tracking it down.

He's actually above average in terms of baseball IQ. And he actually has a good approach at the plate..... He's not often hacking at terrible pitches out of the zone anymore.... Seems like he's just made up his mind to disregard contact and go for XBH (which is fine) and he just misses sometimes. He's been taking a lot of borderline pitches lately. Very promising.

O-Zone Swing% = 28.7%... which is almost identical to Edwin. He's been fairly selective up there. Just swinging through a lot of pitches in the zone it seems. That can't be sustainable.
