how is his defense? I'm not too worried about the lack of power - that can always come later. I like his patience at the plate.

Said to be very good but there will be negative reports because of his arm (it's weak to average supposedly) and that he might be bigger than a traditional CF. He's in Lansing so several of his games will be on MILB.tv. I just don't have my subscription anymore.

Much like Osuna and Clinton Hollon he's very approachable on twitter. Fire him a question and he'll most likely answer it.

So Alford is a big man that can steal bases and probably field well

but he has no power (to show yet) and a poor arm

I guess you can hope to stick him in the corner OF spots.

After getting a couple in-game looks at him already this spring, you can see he's much more comfortable and relaxed at the plate. The strong and athletic frame looks as good as ever as well. I saw a much more selective approach at the plate, which will allow his solid bat-to-ball ability to play up. Timing was his biggest issue when I saw him, but this early in spring, that should be expected. In the field, Alford has the speed to cover an insane amount of ground, but he shows a natural ability to get great reads on the ball right off the bat, only amplifying how dynamic he can be defensively. While there is plenty of risk still involved here, you'd be hard pressed to find another prospect with his breakout potential this year. –Chris King

I like Alford but his numbers are ridiculously BABIP inflated and the lack of a single homerun is a serious red flag. Jansen is a two way catcher who has power and plate discipline, he plays a more premium position, oh and he's also 3/4th of a year younger than Alford.

I love Danny Jansen but I won't let myself get excited about him until he hits in AA.

Alford's BABIP is a bit high but you'd basically expect a good prospect in the MWL to BABIP .400. The Blue Jays had his hit tool as one of the best in the entire 2012 draft class, so maybe he's just barreling everything right now.

Which is exactly what happens when people listen to minor league scouting reports on defense. Assumptions get made based on size, a single game or series look, or just misinterpreting. Marcel Ozuna had the exact same reports (above average athleticism should play well in RF). Trout if he stayed in the minors long enough to get a negative report probably would have similar reports. At this point I think the smart assumption is that he'll remain a CF.

Add Jake Marisnick to that list as well. Will "grow" out of CF

So getting back to Pompey, is he injured or what?

He hasn't played since May 19 which is why I joked that he was demoted to AA.

Question..

Is Tim Locastro a legit prospect? He's turning 23 in July and is currently in Lansing. He had fantastic numbers in Vancouver last year and is currently putting up nice numbers in Lansing. Second baseman with crazy speed and OBP skills. 32 SB last year (4 CS) and 17 SB so far this year (4 CS). How does his defence play?

He's no Ryan Goins, but who knows why they haven't moved him up quicker than they have. Weird organization this one.

Boyd so far: 7-IP, 3-H, 1-ER (HR), 1-BB, 8-K. Shouldn't this guy be in AAA already? I guess he's too old to be promoted or something.

Also, DSJ: 3-3, with a 2B.

Castro: 2-IP, 3-H, 0-BB, 1-K.

Reyes: 1-2.

The guy looks pretty legit to me. Any time u have a speed guy who can get on base at like .370 clip that's a nice little threat. As long as his defense isn't dan uggla esc he should contribute.

He doesn't take a whole bunch of walks. Power is practically nonexistent. Not saying he can't be a decent bench option, but his defense needs to be at least plus for him to contribute.

Locastro might make a decent AAA player and 4th/5th IF on the 40 man, but the no-pop no-SS skills profile is a tough one for major leaguers. He even has less SS skills and pop than Jace Peterson (probably).
