It honestly doesn't look real how quickly he popped up from that slide.

Crazy range to the left, slides knowing he is going to have to pop up quick, and then the money throw. That play was better than textbook.

The footwork and transfer around that slide and pop are insane. The range and instincts are obviously top notch too.

Jose Reyes probably takes two steps and gives up on that baseball.

Kind of crazy that Brendan Ryan might not even be a top 2 defensive SS in the big leagues right now, with Andrelton Simmons and Iglesias in the league. I mean, you could probably throw all three of them in the same bin, it's not like we can even quantify it at this moment, but still.

I think it's basically a tossup between Simmons and Ryan. I'm pretty suspicious of some stringer bias in Simmons' DRS numbers (lol @ +38 at SS).

Remember when scouts told us that Pastornicky was a better fielder than Simmons? Lawl.

You don't buy into the 80 on Jose?

Look how hard he can throw the baseball by essentially just flicking his wrist (not saying this is strong evidence or anything): Click Here for BestPenisMaxGentleman!!!

Jose looks pretty great but what the f*** to I know lol. Nowhere near enough information to have him as a true talent plus 3 sd fielder though.

Watching good left side infielders make good plays is basically porn to me. I understand why people really want to get into the scouting game, despite what a terrible job it is. They're like drug addicts, constantly chasing a high.

Another win for those Red Sox--and with Tampa and Oakland winning, the playoff picture is starting to crystallize more.. It's looking like:

EAST: Tampa/Boston

CENTRAL: Detroit

WEST: Texas/Oakland

WC: Tampa/Boston

WC2: Oakland/Texas

Yanks losing 4 of their last 6 may pretty much end any hope of them making the playoffs--ditto for Baltimore.

Vic Black is the PTBNL in the Byrd trade. Awesome trade for the Mets. Surprised Huntington made such a move.

Poz and Tango walk everyone through Cabrera vs. Trout based on Baseball Reference WAR. Good explanation.

http://joeposnanski.blogspot.ca/2013/08/explaining-cabrera-trout-and-war.html

Baseball-Reference suggests that based in the parks they play in, you'd score ten percent more runs in all of Cabrera’s games than in all of Trout’s games. That ten percent is enormous. Baseball Reference has Cabrera as having created 145 runs, and Trout as 130 runs. A ten percent change will close that gap to almost nothing.”

And that’s why Mike Trout leads in WAR. While Cabrera leads in the raw numbers Trout plays in a tougher run-scoring environment. After all the adjustments are made, Baseball Reference has Trout being 54 runs above average, and Cabrera being worth 50 runs above average. When you add in the replacement level runs (same for both) and convert it to Wins Above Replacement, this is what you end up with, at least for today:

Danny Duffy outright dominated the Twins crappy lineup.

Really like DD. He reminds me a lot of Norris...er...I should say...Norris reminds me a lot of him. Hopefully that holds true.

It's a good move for both clubs, Pirates get insurance in case Martin gets hurt and some rest down the stretch, and they fill a huge hole in RF. They're going for it.....Booyah!!

Yeah, they definitely got the right players back, I just feel they gave up a bit too much.

Axford, no Janssen

It seems like teams aren't giving up much for these late inning relievers. I can sort of see why AA couldn't make a deal he liked for Oliver/Janssen etc.

Billy Hamilton coming up Monday! Good thing--they need that speed, as they try to get into the NL Central race and avoid the wild card(or worse, missing the postseason if the D-backs or Nats come back)
