  1. I suspect they'd find a far better deal than that somewhere in the league... but I'd do it in a heartbeat.
  2. Yup, quite likely a lot of leaner players lose some weight through a season and the body will pack that mass back on in a hurry when focused on weight training/eating/resting right during off-season.
  3. It's hard to believe that Mike F'ning Trout would essentially come for free in a trade, but that contract is scary. I wonder which teams he'd waive his no-trade for.
  4. I think Escobar will need to have an impressive spring in order to make the team. A respectable performance probably doesn't get him there unless the team makes some moves.
  5. There can be temporary water/glyocogen retention of that level for inflammation, creatine etc., but you don't just gain 14 pounds of water from 5lbs of muscle gain unless his super power is water bloat. It's far more likely that it's the other way around, and 12-14 lbs of muscle gain with some additional water weight. It's definitely not out of the question for a young athlete with good genetics who hasn't been heavily weight training during the previous season to gain that kind of muscle during a relatively short off-season (4-5 months).
  6. Yup, something really worked with the monkey one. Can't put my finger on it.
  7. Is your contribution to this forum going to consist of cynical/emotional/childish takes on everything? Do you have enough money to spend on therapy, because I suggest it.
  8. I will happily take Chad Green for 2 years at half the commitment.
  9. 100%. I said this last year when everyone I was chatting with during the pre-season was terrified of this geriatric team. Their team continues to age and every star is not just injury prone but made of glass. I think 90 wins would be a huge success for these guys, and the future is not bright with these massive alabatross contracts and a bottom 10 farm system. Regardless of how much they have to spend, I think they would have been way better off trying to pivot and take a year or two to rebuild. Anyways, all good on our end if they continue to 'go for it', I'm more worried about the Rays and Orioles.
  10. Well, Chad Green isn't on a four year guaranteed deal, but you're right that the +stuff relievers are getting some pretty big deals. I just see this as too much money given his track record and comparing him to Kikuchi maybe wouldn't be that far off if Jordan Hicks had more than 8 starts ... in his entire major league career. I think it's a real long shot for him to even be a serviceable starter.
  11. That seems about right. A fragile catcher heading into his age 29 season that has 3 WAR, 120 wRC+ upside but can't stay off the DL. I really like Jansen and it seems like he's managed the pitching staff relationships quite well. That would give a few more seasons of the Kirk/Jansen tandem.
  12. I doubt they would, but I'd like that trade for us.
  13. You guys are right. I think the Jays are doing the smart thing, being patient and waiting out these agents' ridiculous demands. I also hope Ross saying "one more addition" is simply gamesmanship with these agents who keep leaking the Jays name to bid up their clients. One can hope anyways...
  14. More likely that Brantley's wife banged Ross.
  15. I agree with all of this, I'm just struggling with your earlier statement re: Tiedemann - how have you written him off already? He's a prospect and it's quite possible he goes the route of Pearson, but what makes you so certain he's garbage when he's a consensus top pitching prospect?
  16. Totally agree. It's a tough FA class and the team is low on moveable assets that wouldn't subtract from the current roster. I think it's perfectly reasonable to point to a potential offensive rebound next year as the team is likely due for some positive regression, but you can't count on a bounceback from almost every key player (and I think one or two of Vlad/Kirk/Manoah have a positive rebound). It's just not advisable if you're going for it. They still have to add to this team to make it playoff calibre. I think there has been some fair criticism of the moves the team has made this off-season, but there has been some debbie downer type attitudes fresh off a post-season appearance. It's been rough after the Ohtani letdown, but the offseason isn't over yet.
  17. Really not sure about management's dollar allocation this off-season on the fringes of the roster. The roster wasn't strong enough for just minor tinkering and if you're betting on Vlad bouncing back, now's the time to get ballsy. The ~$19M spent on KK and Chad Green are finishing moves on a largely completed roster - that would have been way better spent bringing in two big bats, like a Teo and a JD, or a Joc and JD. Let's hope Atkins is being cagey and has something up his sleeve.
  18. That would be awesome.
  19. OK, those are indeed elite.
  20. Can we realistically expect any sort of value for Espinal? I sure hope Atkins has money to burn and this is just a raise the floor move for a couple more signings/trades.
  21. lol. MFer is still smiling too!
  22. WTF Atkins?! Is there a stat nerd here who can at least halfway explain how this could make sense?
  23. It's possible and I think you're right that he fit in really well with the team this year and had fun. I also don't think there was a market out there that was willing to give a 2 to 3 year deal to a 34 year old who heavily relies on his defense in CF to contribute value. I'm hoping he stays healthy and I'm looking forward to see him rob some mfers in the outfield this year.
  24. Yup. Would be a waste of resources.
