  1. Are we still talking about Bass? He was garbage this year and a constant distraction. Hopefully he's somewhere with his wife picking some popcorn up off the floor.
  2. I see what you did there.
  3. He comes with warts for sure, but he was a 4 WAR player in 2021 and a 3 WAR player in 2022 based on offensive contributions. You guys are right, he strikes out a lot and he demonstrates low IQ on the bases. But IF he comes on a reasonable 1 or 2 year deal, you can totally overhaul the offense by adding him and another power bat for DH / backup first or OF. I don't think it HAS to be Teo in LF, but the lineup needs some power and the FA class is pretty ugly.
  4. That may be true, but next year I'm def taking the over on Teoscar's bat (age 31 year; career 117 WRC+) vs KK's (age 34, career 98 WRC+).
  5. Yup, plus KK will be 34 going into his next season. No thanks. Perfectly happy with Varsho in CF and redeploying funds to a big bat in LF.
  6. Varsho will do just do fine in center field and like Big C said will likely put up 3-4 WAR. Maybe you can watch a young adult Netflix show to satisfy your thirst.
  7. Yup, I wouldn't be surprised by any of those outcomes.
  8. And pro athletes are typically the individuals who got where they are due to a rare combination of talent and extreme dedication to improving at their sport. The most common outcome for prospective major leaguers is to see a ball player work hard all their life to get drafted/signed, work their way through multiple levels of the game and then make the pros to then find out that they don't 'have it' in terms of raw tools, can't make the adjustments necessary, or struggle at the mental aspect of the game. Definitely not as typical to see someone make it all the way to pros, dominate, and then let themselves become sloppy f***s at 23/24 and fizzle out. Clearly it happens though. Just makes me cry inside when we have it happen to no less than three players... at the same time... at almost the same age.
  9. Interesting - I do wonder if there is a chance he takes the QO. What does he get on a one year pillow deal in the current market given the compensatory draft pick? Maybe around or just over the QO? If he wants to bet on himself, accepting the QO may simply depend upon whether he's happy in Toronto.
  10. I would think Cimber and possibly Richards are the only non-keepers. I'd like to see Espinal go, but I'm pretty sure they'll retain him.
  11. That sounds exactly right.
  12. Goddamn, that's an ugly FA class. Given the options, I wouldn't mind Teo back on a one or two year deal.
  13. I don't doubt for a second that Atkins would listen to any interest, but right now you're getting pennies on the dollars for those gorgeous peripherals. It's the absolute bottom of his market, two years left or not, and every GM will know that. Even if he bounces back to halfway between current Vlad and MVP Vlad, you'll still get more value in him playing for the Jays for those two years or him playing one year and shipping him out at the end of that year. Yes, Vladdy's current production is easily replaceable, but it's poor asset management to ship him out for magic beans right now (which is what I think you'd get) when you could quite likely see a resurgence in the bat next year. I'm just as frustrated as everyone else and I hope I'm wrong - if I am he'll be traded, because I can't see the Jays not moving him if the price is right. I just can't wrap my head around the decline we've see in his bat from 2021 to today and the inability of a 24 year old generational superstar to keep himself in half decent shape.
  14. Rivera: "if he dies, he dies."
  15. I get it. Not a mediocre team, a decidedly above average team, but a mediocre result given expectations and talent level.
  16. Couldn't agree more.
  17. Yeah fair. I'm definitely pro-analytics, but the rage resonated re: the Berrios decision and the inflexibility of that spreadsheet decision. I was just overcome with joy that someone in the media finally called out for Vladdy to show up to spring training in shape.
  18. Sid had a pretty epic rant on the Jays organization that was right on the money:
  19. s***, that made me laugh out loud. Well done.
  20. This adds at least one WAR to our 2024 total.
  21. Yup. Even if you decided that's what you're going to do beforehand, and it's a perfectly reasonable strategy on paper (or in excel), you STILL need to have the flexibility to change depending on the in-game developments. That was a moment where JS really has to think twice and make the right call. I find it very, very, hard to believe that JS isn't allowed to have the final say on the Berrios pull.
