  1. Couldn't agree more.
  2. After his second half of the season, feels like it should be ¢
  3. I commented today on another thread that I wasn't a fan of the Moreno / Varsho deal, but that doesn't change the fact that Varsho is still a valuable piece. I'm perfectly fine with Varsho patrolling CF, the guy is a defensive stud and he might bounce back next year with the bat. KK was a bit of a gamble that paid off - He was more an injury prone .650 - .700 ops guy coming off hip surgery and it wasn't clear if he'd maintain his ++ defense. I'm super interested to see what his market is going to be in the offseason given his age (33).
  4. He is perfectly fine hitting at the bottom of your lineup as a defense first CF. He just has to be between .700 - .750 ops to be a very valuable player. Where he can't be, is plugging the left field position, which belongs to a BFB - a BIG F$%@ING BAT.
  5. You get very little. You don't sell at the absolute bottom of Vlad's market, you run him out there next year and hope you see improvement. Who knows if he'll take fitness more seriously this off-season, I'm sure this was a massively disappointing season for him. If he doesn't get himself in shape, humble him and sit him when he's slumping or runs into a goddamn stupid out.
  6. Or maybe Pete likes analytics just fine, but recognizes the analytics didn't lead to the right decision in that moment. Schneider absolutely has to go and there has to be some major changes to the coaching staff. There need to be some fresh eyes and voices on the hitting side because the results are nowhere close to the actual talent level of this lineup.
  7. Naw. My son's magic 8 ball said odds are 100% that Toronto wins today. Let's GO JAYS
  8. I really can't see those two teams connecting on a trade and potentially gifting the other in the AL East, but besides that, this is pretty one sided in favour of the O's. Personally, I think the Jays badly need a controllable arm (lefty to boot) that can pencil into the rotation over the next year or two. Schneider should run with 2B along with Biggio and I think you can simply sign a bat that provides what Santander does - I don't think Teo is an unfair comparison.
  9. It's a fair point. I think as a first overall prospect, Moreno's ceiling at the time (and now) is a consistent multi-year all-star catcher. It's still very possible that Varsho could have a .750 ops in center next year and put up 5 WAR again, so point taken.
  10. I didn't like the Jays Moreno trade at the time, as I felt they didn't quite get fair value for such a highly rated prospect. I think it came down to three things. First, lack of dance partners - the market for a young catcher wasn't as robust as in past years, which left the Jays with only a few places that made sense for Moreno. Two, projections of Varsho were fairly bullish (Zips, Steamer had him at 3 - 3.5 WAR) which compared to Moreno had a higher certainty (i.e. you'll take a lower ceiling for higher floor). Three, the trade was somewhat rushed as the Jays couldn't break camp with Jansen/Kirk/Moreno and they needed to plug a hole in the outfield to fit their budget. I don't think the trade was egregious, but I agree that they would have got way more value if they were dealing a 1st overall prospect that was say a pitcher or a shortstop, and if they had the luxury of patience where the market would come to them.
  11. I think he was missing spots. He just didn't have location yesterday.
  12. I've noticed the same thing, but I just don't understand why the strange change in approach. Whether it's under coaching or over coaching, something has to change for next year - 162 games has been telling that something is not working here for the hitting strategy. I know it's easy to pin it on the hitting coach, but something feels off in terms of game plan / discipline / unique approach (playing to strengths) for most of the hitters.
  13. Fans, in general, are always in a rush to couch criticize all the 'morons' running their teams when things don't break right. One of the reasons I enjoy this board is that there are a number of intelligent posters here who have a more nuanced view of the front office's moves. I don't think anyone at the beginning of the year thought we'd see Springer, Vladdy, Kirk, and Chapman all have some real subpar hitting seasons. Atkins has had his highlights and lowlights like almost every other GM. We've been in the playoffs three of the last four years. I think you give him another year to see if he can get us over the hump. If you're going to make a change, I really think you have to bring in a more seasoned manager and rethink the hitting coaching because something is simply not clicking for half the starting roster.
  14. It's such an odd narrative. "They don't hit good pitching as well as bad pitching". You can say that for literally every team in the MLB. Bottom line is that this team has struggled to hit period this year and it's still not clear to me why.
  15. Heartbreaker, but there's still tomorrow.
  16. I'll have to respectfully disagree - pop a leftover waffle in the toaster and it's almost as good as new. Leftover Tacos are well below replacement level.
  17. It's go time! Let's goooooo Jays!
  18. Yup. Kikuchi will be a long relief option out of the bullpen, there's no need to carry a ton of arms. I would think Green is a lock.
  19. Yeah I’d be choked if this becomes a pitchers park. Will be Interesting to see how it plays next year.
  20. This isn't based on anything, but I struggle to see how shrinking the foul territory is going to have a meaningful impact on offense in the stadium. Maybe I'm clueless on the amount of outs that will be impacted by the change.
  21. You sir, have attended some epic events. I imagine some of those tickets costs a pretty penny but were well damn worth it.
  22. Agree with all this. These aren't the first half Rays, but still a great team. The Rays are clearly harbouring some secret cloning technology where they can manufacture generic looking pitchers with plus stuff and 100mph velocity. Even their names sound fake. Kevin Kelly? Colin Poche? They're not fooling anyone with this s***. The only thing this organization needs is a better random name generator.
  23. I also despise the O's. That moment was euphoric, I only have some vague memories of kicking and punching towards the TV and yelling triumphant profanities, waking up the baby. Even the baby hated the O's.
