  1. Hmmm A first baseman? Weird signing IMO
  2. Yeah, so if a team signs Bauer they could potentially get a pitcher who pitches like an ace for league minimum. I mean if the Jays signed him (they won't) he could potentially lead their rotation in fWAR,. But either way, he's probably going to be very good value for league minimum. That's all I was saying before Jim came along and decided to argue semantics haha
  3. I suppose you could, but that would be f***ing idiotic. At least with Bauer, he's actually proven to be an ace pitcher in the past.
  4. Yeah, that's why I used the word "potential" Jim Either way, he's probably going to be incredible value for league minimum.
  5. Well, the Jays clearly won't take advantage of adding a potential ace to their rotation for league minimum. Hopefully none of their direct competition take advantage of this rare opportunity either.
  6. Can Bauer only sign for league minimum once he's a free agent? That can't be right can it?
  7. Nice. Now sign Alex Reyes. Get a huge bucket of gas throwing mud to toss at the wall.
  8. Keep an extra bullpen arm maybe?
  9. With Springer, Varsho and KK seemingly set as the OF starters, and all three of Espinal, Merrifield and Biggio on the roster, do we think the Jays are still looking to add another OFer? I'd expect Whit to split time between 2B and the OF and I'd also expect Biggio to get some OF starts along with 2B and 1B, while Espinal will get some time at 2B, SS and 3B. Barger as an injury replacement for SS, 3B and Lukes as the defacto 6th OFer.
  10. What year is it now? General Blue Jays Discussion (2023) Lock this one up IMO, it's not 2022 anymore.
  11. Would be kind of like getting Gurriel back, if he were left handed and still hit HR's Not a bad option depending on the cost to acquire I guess, just sucks that he's kind of a tire fire defensively.
  12. How did Ken Giles look after his return last season with Seattle? Obviously he sucked because they DFA'ed him but did he still bring the heat or is his arm cooked? I wouldn't mind seeing him and/or Trevor Rosenthal brought in on training camp invites or MiLB deals. Two filthy bat missers before their injuries.
  13. I'm pretty excited about this season. 1. I don't think the offense has taken as big of a hit as people like to think 2. The OF defense should be vastly improved, and the overall defense is above average to elite at every position but SS 3. They (more than?) adequately replaced Stripling's 2022 production by bringing in Bassitt, plus I don't think Berrios or Kikuchi will be as bad as they were in '22 4. IMO the bullpen is well ahead of last years to start the season with Bass/Pop/Swanson/White and hopefully Pearson playing a role as well
  14. That Jays had the 2nd best wRC+ in all of baseball last season. Losing Teoscar and Lourdes shouldn't knock them out of the top 5 IMO, especially if Vladdy bounces back a bit. I'm also expecting a big year from Chapman in a contract year, and I also expect Varsho to improve with no shift. Probably Biggio as well.
  15. It'd be nice if Bowden Francis suddenly turned into something, but I certainly won't be holding my breath.
  16. I had completely forgotten that he was non tendered by the Cards and is a free agent.
  17. Seeing more rumblings out there about the Jays having interest in Alex Reyes. I wouldn't mind the Jays taking a flyer on him. More gas for the BP. Tons of walks, but tons of K's too.
  18. Also, anyone know what happened to that 6'9 reliever we had in AAA who was reportedly hitting triple digits? Fitz Stadler. He didn't pitch an inning anywhere last season. I assume he must have underwent TJS Maybe he'll be back this year and have better control. Walks were an issue with that guy for sure.
  19. Anybody else feel like the Jays bullpen is teetering on the edge of becoming possibly elite? Looking at FG roster projections, the Jays are at a point where they have enough quality BP arms where guys like Pop, Pearson and Merryweather might not even start on the MLB roster. Now they add another hard throwing project like Julian Fernandez into the mix. Then you have high end prospects like Tiedemann and Zulueta, who I realize are starters, but could easily start their MLB careers in the bullpen before transitioning back to starters, especially with how strong the Jays rotation looks ATM. Not to mention reliever prospects like Adrian Hernandez, Hayden Jeunger and Hagen Danner who are all right there at the AA/AAA levels and looking good. Seems like they've come a long ways from the days where they had to give damn near 150 innings combined to waiver wire fodder like Thornton, Payamps, Saucedo and Castro.
  20. Imagine a world where Julian Fernandez figures his s*** out, Nate Pearson stays healthy and Julian Merryweather pre-sticky stuff ban resurfaces... Along with Romano that would be one hell of a flame throwing, bat missing, back end of a bullpen.
  21. I'd say yes, although we'll see how Varsho transitions to LF.
  22. 1. Mets 2. Padres 3. Yankees 4. Braves 5. Rays 6. Astros 7. Cards 8. Jays 9. Dodgers 10. Guardians
  23. Man it's exciting knowing the jays have three legit CFers patrolling the OF now.
  24. Still wouldn't mind Cueto on a 1 year deal
  25. Plus there is a chance Ryu comes back and makes an impact mid season, and Pearson/Merryweather are also wild cards although they are no longer counted on to make an impact it will just strictly be a bonus if they do.
