  1. I wonder what a 2 year deal for Yates looks like? If it's not too expensive I'd love to see the Jays get in on that. 2 years $5 million total?
  2. Hiraldo? He was a wRC+ 100 in low A I don't think anyone is going to take him and play him in MLB next season are they?
  3. 1. Berrios 2. Ryu 3. Manoah 4. Stripling 5. Pearson 6. Hatch 7. Kay 8. Logue 9. Francis That's all the SP's on the 40 man right now. Get a guy that can slot in at #1-2 and a guy that slot in at #4-5 and they're in decent shape.
  4. I'm very interested to see how they bolster the bullpen this off season. They went hard after Hendriks last off season, so it stands to reason they would target Iglesias this off season, although Romano did have a pretty good year and is more proven now. I don't know what it would cost, but it'd be great if they could land Taylor Rogers from the Twins. Him and Mayza would be one hell of a 1-2 lefty punch in late innings. I wonder if Borucki plus a prospect would get it done? Romano, Mayza, Cimber, Richards is a solid starting point, Merryweather too but you can't count on him at all. It's just a bonus if he actually stays healthy for once. You take those 5 guys and add in an Igelsias and a Rogers and you might have something.
  5. I don't think either guy will come back, and I won't be upset if they miss out on them either as long as they find replacements. But if they do re-sign them both, it wouldn't be the worst thing to get the band back together. I don't know if Ray can piece together another CY type season, but it would still be a very good rotation more than likely.
  6. I'd 100% be OK with 1 year deals for either guy. Especially Rodon. He's a 5 WAR SP when healthy and still just 28 years old.
  7. Imagine signing Seager or Correa to play SS, moving Bo to 2B and trading for Ramirez to play 3B? lol Most valuable infield in baseball. That'd be bonkers.
  8. I wonder if the Jays even go after Suzuki. Jays outfield is already full up. I know we speculate at times about bringing in a potential upgrade and then trading one of Teo or Gurriel, but would the front office break up the three amigos at this time? It is a business I know, but Vladdy/Teo/Gurriel seem like such a tight group and the foundation of what keeps the team so loose and fun. I don't know if the FO would be eager to break that up at this point unless it was the only way to improve the team.....and certainly is not the only way to improve the team, it's probably not even close to being the best way to improve the team either.
  9. Probably not but you never know. I wouldn't count this FO out of anything.
  10. Scherzer + Verlander would be a massive home run in my opinion. Verlander for 1-2 years and Scherzer for 2-3 years. On paper that rotation would be off the hook and you avoid the long term commitments you'd have if you signed a Ray or a Gausman for example. Scherzer Berrios Verlander Ryu Manoah Then you bring Pearson along slowly and hang onto all your prospect capital for now.
  11. Verlander as the main SP signing would be very risky but have huge upside too. Considering we started last season with a staff of Ryu, Diesel, Zeuch, Matz and an unproven Ray and ended up with one if the better rotations in baseball despite Ryu being decidedly average I think I'd be ok starting the season with Berrios, Manoah, Ryu, Verlander, as the top 4 guys.
  12. This is a great bit of business that Shatkins got accomplished and completely necessary due to the prospect capital given up to acquire Berrios. Well done Now let's go out and land a front line starter in free agency to replace at least some of what Ray brought last season. Scherzer would be amazing, or Gausman. It'd be nice to get a free agent to fill that hole so they don't have to spend more prospect capital acquiring a starter from Oakland, Miami or Cincinnati.
  13. Oh f*** me that is awesome if true!
  14. Sign Scherzer and Verlander. f*** I would love that. Keeps the long term payroll flexible while adding a couple veteran aces.
  15. lol I'm starting to think we might see: C - Jansen DH - Kirk 3B - Moreno ...quite a bit next season. With Kirk and Moreno also getting starts at C, and Moreno getting to DH once in a while as well. Having three catchers on the roster who can all hit (as long DJ doesn't forget how again) and then one that can also play some 3B will be awesome. Plus they're all still dirt cheap to boot. Would allow for the Jays to pay through the nose for elite pitching both in the rotation and the bullpen.
  16. Yeah the Marlins looking to possibly trade a starter, the A's supposedly cutting payroll and rebuilding so one or more of their starters are supposed to be available, plus the Reds are also cutting costs. I hope the Jays shore up the pitching staff in free agency though, and hang onto their prospect capital for now. If they can't manage that, it's nice to know they might be able to trade for a Pablo Lopez, Sean Manea, Chris Bassitt, Sonny Gray or Luis Castillo.
  17. Reading between the lines it seems that unless something falls in their laps, the Jays will hang onto their prospect capital and avoid big contracts when it comes to acquiring and signing position players. Biggio at 2B and an internal battle for 3B between Espinal/Smith/Moreno possibly. I suspect they'll be going guns ablazin' for pitching though. Try to sign 2 high end FA starters and a few solid to high end relievers. Acquire what they can't sign via trade after that.
  18. Would it be a good idea or a bad idea to spend $20-25 million on Iglesias and Mchugh combined? Relievers can be so volatile, but those two seem consistent. I also wonder what it would cost to acquire Taylor Rogers from the Twins. A year left at $6 million on his contract. Iglesias Romano Mchugh Rogers Mayza Cimber Richards Merryweather That could be one hell of a good bullpen.
  19. Just a few posts back in this thread MikeM said he thought Thor could get $100 million on the open market.
  20. That'd be quite the gamble signing Thor to 4 x 25 or 5 x 20 or something like that. Apparently Verlander is having a show case tomorrow for teams to watch him pitch. I bet he signs with the Yankees if he looks good.
  21. Even if they move Moreno off of catcher for now, I think there is a chance we could still see Kirk moved for a young controllable starting pitcher. Jansen finally got healthy and finally stopped getting f***ed by the BABIP monster, I don't think he's a flash in the pan, and there is nothing wrong with Mcguire as a back up catcher. I think Kirk would have more value in a trade, but he's also more of a risk because of his body type. I don't think we see the Jays give out another Springer type contract this off season to a position player over the age of 30. I think they are going to go hard after Gausman via free agency, and I think they are going to go hard for Ramirez via trade.
  22. I just keep coming back to Jose Ramirez at 3B for the Jays. Hate losing high end prospects, and it's not good that he'd only be under control for two more season, but damn he's such a perfect fit. He replaces Semien's production all by himself, fills the gaping hole at 3B with above average defense, and adds a switch hitting MVP caliber bat. Then you have a healthy Biggio back at 2B with his solid high OBP left handed bat and just like the Jays likely have a solid 9-10 WAR combined between the two of them, and have diversified their offensive profile. Man it's going to be a long off season, with the CBA issues and waiting to see which way the Jays go in bolstering their roster.
  23. Listened to a pod cast yesterday, Zwelling I think...they had Atkins on. He sure sounded like he felt Biggio was still going to be a big part of the team next season. Was excited about his discipline at the plate adding a different look to the Jays batting order.
  24. I thought throw him a chair meant to "sit him down"....as in get him out.
