Trey just answered a terrible question the best way he could. He's not struggling by any means as he had a $4 million signing bonus. That's more money than I have made in a 21 year career in a relatively high paying job. He's doing just fine.
Slider guy would do this much better than me but even in Manoah’s near CY season the advanced metrics showed he was over performing who he really was and really should have been looked at more like mid rotation starter. Unfortunately, even that is a pipe dream at this point.
To be fair, they haven’t exactly knocked it out of the park with their first round picks. Yesavage and 1.5 years of Manoah are basically it for success with their first round jury still out on some guys.
It’s astounding when looking at the drafts on bRef how often the Jays are one of the few teams with guys who didn’t even make it to the majors.
I believe Okamoto is the guy I was reading about who has struggled mightily against velocity in Japan. And I think the number was only 94 mph, which is not that common in the NPB but is extremely common in MLB. That's a bit concerning.
I think it will still mean a ton to him...not as much as one as a player would have but it is still a tremendous accomplishment to be a part of it in any capacity.
The Dodgers first crack at Yesavage was with him nowhere near his best as he couldn't locate his best pitch. Yamamoto was at his very best and maybe he repeats that, but let's hope not as it is hard to do.
I don't even know how I found my way to bluejaysmessageboard after the mlb board went dead but I'm glad I did. I was more of a lurker on the MLB board so I certainly didn't get an invite :)

Blake Snell gets beat by the Jays twice, but it's just lucky apparently.
The Red Sox won the world series Despite John Farrell. When the Jays win this year Shatkins and Schneider will have played a big part in that. Sure, they have made mistakes along the way, but who doesn't?
That's just to say for any poster with a large history of posts, you could train a generative AI to have an agent that imitates that person without much effort.
I was getting ready to defend the Straw pinch running decision as playing to who they are with late inning defensive replacements when they are winning and the spot likely won't come up again. But then I realized it was in the 8th in a tie game. I can't get behind that.
