    Another way to look at an 11 year deal where everyone knows the last few years are a sunk cost is this. Instead of a higher AAV, you get to spread that out for tax and budget purposes. Also, if they have insurance like the Ryu contract, and TT is hurt the last few years, maybe they can recoup some with insurance...?

    Back to Turner. People were gasping when Diaz got his deal. It is the new market folks. You either go that extra $$ or term or someone else will. Similar to the housing market in desirable locations... .. Insane prices but unless you want to rent the rest of your life (not cheap either), you need to pay or someone else will. Really it comes down to not what someone is worth or longevity of the contract. It is what someone else will pay to obtain the same thing and if you want it, or want to deprive someone else (competition of it) you need to pay.

    If I have a different baseball opinion then someone on this board I support it with why, how I came to that conclusion. I have already made numerous posts supporting the statistical merits of Schilling. Toddlermeyer just slings F-bombs and sound like some unhinged loon. By his own admission, his hate is opinion based and nothing to do with merit. Every time I have gone after you for something it has been a counter argument supported by facts or experience. Nothing to do with your personal opinions not related to this board.

    I appreciate your nuanced take on this Jim. However, there really is no room for voters to not vote for him using the merit argument. Might as well abolish the HOF if a pitcher like Schilling does not have quals. I remember him dominating the Blue Jays in 93. Think about the offense on that team and he was able to handle them. Just one iota I remember. Schillings career is HOF, no if ands or doubts.

    He was a six-time All-Star, three-time World Series champion, World Series MVP and National League Championship Series MVP. He finished runner-up for the Cy Young Award three times. He played 20 years in the majors and finished with a 3.46 ERA and 3,116 strikeouts. He is one of 19 pitchers to record 3,000 or more strikeouts. The only retired pitchers in the club who are not in the Hall of Fame are Schilling, Clemens and CC Sabathia. Justin Verlander and Max Scherzer are still playing. Curt Schilling earned runs allowed in 19 career postseason starts: 2 1 6 0 0 1 1 1 1 2 1 2 6 1 0 0 5 2 1 2 ER or fewer in 16 of 19 starts. He is the the best big-game pitcher of my generation an unequivocally belongs in the Hall of Fame.

I think it is ok to describe those who fly planes into office buildings extreme. He has an opinion about bathrooms.. I guess you are not allowed to express it. He lost his ESPN job and that is their right. Hall of Fame should be on merit unless your are a serious criminal or pedophile etc. 90% of the country agrees with one statement and at least 50% plus with the other. Yet he is getting cancelled from the HOF

    I see a solid 5 with that list, though I would prefer Bassit. However, I don't see solid depth. I don't consider Kickuchi and White solid starter depth. Trying to skate by on 5 SPs IF we even pulled something like that off (the top 5) is not a recipe for success. We need more depth even if that top 5 comes to fruition.

    Agree. If we could sign Bassit in FA and trade for Lopez or Perez that would be a very nice rotation!!

    Apart from Reynolds, the more I look at it, I think AZ or MIA makes the most sense. Guys like Lopez or if we could pry Perez and AZ has a lot both in OF and pitching I like, with Varsho being ideal on the position player side.

    As has been pointed out, this is a newer regime. I believe Cherington and others who ended up there had a lot to do with why the Blue Jays are good now. The Pirates have a lot in the pipe or on the cusp and I think when it is the right time, they will make the moves. I wouldn’t be surprised to see them competitive this year.

    They are lacking pitching. They are trying to get some. What’s the point in Semien and Seager etc if not.

    I wasn't aware of the Club House issues. I do know if Winker gets right, he can rake.. I think the Brewers get more upside/risk. I knew the Mariners needed a 2b....

    I have tried to pry CFs from L54 before... Not happening... It's like trying to take cake from a fat kid;)
