  1. Giants sign Manaea. Interesting. I thought they would go Rondon or Bassit. I guess they still could, but doubt it now. I am happy, Bassit still on market, just has the pick attached which is pretty big..
  2. Not anymore, not even in one league. He had a good 2022 season has multiple position versatility and is a switch hitter. Would be happy to have him. Jansen is like Buxton but with less track record. Got to play to be of value.
  3. Don’t get this one. I would love to have Urquidy.
  4. The WAR is v2.2...???? Version 2.2 Based on discussions with FanGraphs and others, we decided to drop the replacement level to .294 from .320. This means that 2013 MLB has 1000 WAR in the entire major leagues. This was applied retroactively, so that it was applied to all previous AL, NL, and NA seasons. Other Major Leagues (AA, UA, PL, FL) were maintained at the same level relative to the NL. After the positional adjustment was applied we forced the major league average to be zero across the league. A small amount of smoothing was done to transition between decade-long league-vs-league replacement levels. Fangraphs has a top 100 hitters list which posted 12/07/22. There are other catchers in the top 100. Happ is in the top 100, Jansen is not. Using a purely Fangraphs overall assessment.
  5. I am using Baseball Reference which has 4.4 WAR for Happ. Regardless. They might do a Jansen for Happ trade. The point of contention is you saying Jansen would get Happ plus. Or that Jansen in the real world is so much more valuable then Happ. Just the fact Happ is a switch hitter and we need a left handed hitting bat is extremely valuable to the Jays. Plus the fact he can play multiple positions both OF and IF.
  6. Yea, because you are extrapolating a catcher as if he is going to play every day and that Jansen is going to sustain that... The answer is No and No. Your WAR is based on extrapolating ABs. My WAR in the previous post is real life and actually what occurred. 4.4 for Happ vs 2.9 for Jansen. Jansen will be 28 a week into the season. His birthday is April. Jansen has one more year of control. Nothing you said means we would get Happ PLUS for Jansen.
  7. Happ was worth 4.4 WAR in 2022, Jansen was worth 2.9. Happ is a switch hitter who can play any OF position and various IF positions and plays everyday. They are both 27 yrs old.
  8. I think you are seriously overvaluing Jansen or undervaluing Happ... Not sure if you are serious..??
  9. The goal of the off season should be run prevention. Make it superior than last season where it was unsat! So far- The Teo move and KK does that. We made our pen better, we have a SP with upside, we increased our OF defense significantly. The off season is not over yet. However, the above moves are in line with what should be our strategic objective.
  10. We would have to send more. No way Jansen gets Happ plus... Happ is a valuable asset.
  11. Cohen watched the deGrom press conference and made an impulse purchase. Not kidding..
  12. If we can get Bassit at 4 yrs after Rondon is asking for 7, we should do that in a heartbeat!
  13. Bassit and Rondon still out there. Pablo Lopez and maybe some of the other Miami young guns are still on the market. I hope to hell not ref Kikuchi, but not going to panic yet....
  14. Take a look back in time to a 27 yr old slugging 1B with his first shot at FA and had never been on the IL in his life. https://www.splicetoday.com/sports/prince-fielder-s-weight-and-position-might-unfairly-affect-his-next-contract Then look at the disaster that deal was for the Rangers. This moment in history is brought to you by Hornymuslimwomenwholikeshinyheads.com You are only one click away, inshalla.
  15. Remember them talking about Bautista's work out regime and how he took such good care of himself etc, etc. Joey Batts played until he was 37 and sucked in his 36 and 37 seasons.
  16. Ortiz might be an exception. Mo Vaughn hung it up when he was 35 and only played 27 games that year. He also missed the entire 2001 season due to injury. So basically he played until 34 yrs old and missed his entire 33 yr old season.
  17. I don’t know. I saw Prince Fielder tear around the bases for an inside the park HR when he was younger, but he left baseball at age 32. His last 3 years, he played 42 games his age 30 season and 89 his age 32 season..
  18. Not sure if I see teams entering the 10/11 yr deals at FA with guys like Vlad and Kirk... Body types would give me pause compared to other players.
  19. One of our younger catchers for an solid OF from AZ (they also have young pitchers I really like) or Pablo Lopez or Edward Cabrera from the Marlins.. Wish list Kirk for Varsho, would probably take Moreno Martinez and a sweetener maybe LGjr for Lopez (not sure how many years left on Lopez?) or Cabrera. Or Kirk for E.Perez if we catch Ng sleeping
  20. Arizona or bust!!! Marlins or bust!!
  21. I would take Ashby and Ethan Small.
  22. No one that we should have signed and really needed is off the board yet. Apart from Verlander, which didn’t think was going to happen or a good fit, Montero is the only other FA so far I really wanted and he went back to the Astros Day 1.
  23. If Tallion goes to the Cubs, I can see NYY going hard after Rondon and Bassit. Not good news for us.
  24. You would accept MLB minimum on the spot and probably cut off a nut if that is what it took. A guy with options needs to assess.
  25. All you need to do is talk to any MLB pitcher or manager about it. No need to nerd out on it. Heard it from the horses mouths for 40 years. Pitching around guys is a thing!
