  1. Keith Law released his Top 100 today. 4 Blue Jays listed: #6 Gabriel Moreno #44 Orelvis Martinez #89 Kevin Smith #99 Jordan Groshans
  2. It’s our own version of Soto! In all seriousness, a $4M price tag for a corner OF on the international market is absurd. Only up the middle and pitchers get that much typically, which means the tools and athleticism for Bonilla must be off the charts for us to commit to that. Even Soto himself got a $1.5M bonus. Exciting to think about!
  3. Manuel Beltre is one of my favorites in the system. He's not incredibly toolsy or twitchy, and his swing seems to lack some fluidity. But the dude is obsessed with hitting. He posts a fair bit to his social media almost every day showcasing the different hitting drills he's doing. He's already pretty advanced for 17 years old in terms of approach, and the baseball IQ and makeup seem off the charts. If he can work on his lower half and rotation a bit more, I think there's some real pull-side power waiting to be unlocked.
  4. So they are incentivizing teams with draft picks to bring up prospects based on 1. prospect lists, which vary outlet to outlet 2. BBWAA voting, which are also subjective Mayyyybe this helps end the service time discussion for some prospects, but I highly doubt the O's are bringing up Adley Rutschman for the potential of an extra 2nd or 3rd round pick. That 7th year of cost-control over Adley is worth significantly more than the draft pick. I don't think this helps most top prospects get up faster. A potential solution would be just to expand the service time cutoff date to later in the season. Maybe this doesn't help Adley since the Orioles are going to be really bad regardless, but teams like the Mariners now will be forced to think about bringing J-Rod up if they want him to produce for a significant part of their season.
  5. Longenhagen on Austin Martin Galen: Ceiling and floor for Austin Martin? If you were the Twins, would you consider trading him for a starting pitcher? Eric A Longenhagen: Ceiling is a Zobrist-y type player, floor is something like Luis Urias has been? Narrow band of outcomes for Martin, not likely a big impact guy due to lack of raw power. Still think he can end up being Jonathan India, but the lack of power he's displayed seems like a real concern in every evaluation I've read on him.
  6. Would be nice if Zach Logue or Bowden Francis emerged as legitimate 5th starter options in 2022. Fangraphs seems to like Bowden Francis a fair bit, labelling him as a high probability backend starter.
  7. The idea is that these renovations will translate to more premium revenue (i.e. corporate revenue, ballpark attractions), which I’m sure would be used to extend Vladdy/Bo and payroll in general.
  8. Reading this profile about Otto Lopez: https://futurebluejays.com/2021/12/13/toronto-blue-jays-top-ten-prospects-6-otto-lopez/ Got me thinking, is it likely that the Jays value Lopez similarly (or even higher) than Austin Martin? They have incredibly similar profiles: contact-first, versatile, high-OBP, except that Lopez has proven he can do it at a higher level and has better defensive reviews. It does seem like Otto Lopez might've made Austin Martin a little redundant on the depth chart. That, plus the extension makes the Berrios trade all the more better. It's definitely aged better as time has gone on.
  9. Always thought that we hit the limit when it comes to substantial long term contracts on the books because they want to save money for extending Bo/Vlad ($470M is committed to a combination of Springer, Ryu, Gausman, and Berrios). But if the Seager news is true, seems like we were cleared to have one more mega contract. I really doubt they went into the Seager negotiations without the clearance to commit to $250M at least. Obviously that bodes incredibly well for extending Bo and Vlad, but this might mean there may be a legitimate shot for us to sign one of Correa/Story/Freeman/Bryant. Maybe there was something to the Freeman rumours after all? If Vlad can truly handle 3B, then Freeman really is the perfect fit. Imagine saying even 3 years ago that we’d have the spending power of a legitimate big market team? Mark Shapiro and Ed Rogers are not f***ing around.
  10. Bryant's also going to cost significantly more than Taylor. Think this front office is done shelling out $100M+ contracts for the foreseeable future unless it's to retain our own guys. Hope I'm wrong, but guys like Davidi and Nicholson-Smith have said as much.
  11. Pirates actually got a pretty decent return for a very cromulent catcher in Stalings. The return for Kirk given the catcher market right now would be amazing. Build a package around Kirk & Groshans and get Ramirez or Ketel Marte.
  12. We only have $15M more committed for 2022 than the Rangers ($140M for us vs. $125M for them) and we are leagues better off than them. I think they've realized they've semi-botched their rebuild, so they're trying to be respectable by spending a ton of money. Jung looks kinda good, but that's it. Don't think they sniff the playoffs still though.
  13. Also lol @ the Rangers spending all this money even though everyone around Seager, Gray, and Semien are certified scrubs. Gonna be an expensive 75 win team.
  14. What an odd offseason. Yankees, Dodgers, Red Sox all quiet thus far. Mariners, Jays, Mets, Rangers making the big splashes so far.
  15. Gausman + draft pick at $110M > Ray at $115M.
  16. Is Story going to get more or less than this? I’d rather have Story for the same price tbh.
  17. Joey Murray also not protected. Albeit that may be because he’s not healthy. Hasn’t played all year.
  18. We can all agree he left a fairly substantial amount of $$$ on the table regardless of how much you think it is specifically. Honestly just speaks to the culture of this team. Berrios was "dead-set" on hitting free agency when with the Twins (his own words). He's here 2.5 months and he loves the city and the team enough to sign for a significantly below market deal. Speaks volumes of this city, the front office, coaching staff, players, and other people in the organization making him feel comfortable. I'd say that Martin & SWR deal worked out in our favour. We got a bona fide #2 with the potential to mature into a #1. Also find it funny that people on here were saying they didn't want to extend Stroman because they were cheap. 2 years later, we've spent $200M total on Ryu and Berrios. Safe to say, I think there were reasons beyond money for why Stroman wasn't resigned.
  19. I expected him to win, but in no way did I expect him to be nearly unanimous. What a great season for Ray. Gotta give credit to the coaching and strength and conditioning staff too for helping Robbie get there.
  20. If Berrios had the exact same season as he did in 2021 this upcoming season, how much would he get on the open market in 2022 given his age? Gotta be significantly more than $120M I would think.
  21. 27 year old RHP 3.66 ERA last 3 seasons with elite walk and strikeout rates Good velocity and spin numbers Arguably the best curveball in the majors. If you took the above properties into account blindly and were to project a contract extension for that caliber of pitcher, chances are it would land at significantly more than $131M. What a great deal of business here by the front office. I knew they had to have some sort of inside track on this extension when they gave up Martin and Woods-Richardson. Berrios also just finished his age 27 season and pitchers have a tendency to blossom in their late 20’s/early 30’s. You give him a full offseason with our coaching and strength and conditioning staff, and I’m sure he’ll mature into a bona fide #1.
  22. 5 years, between $77M and $80M for E-Rod. About what was expected according to projections.
  23. I’m really curious to see the terms of the deal. Should give us a pretty good indicator how much the rest of the SPs are gonna get. E-Rod with his age and intriguing underlying metrics was one of the better value deals out there.
  24. 108 mph was the highest exit velo of the night by the way. Need to have an over/under for Gabriel Moreno OPS in the majors in 2022.
