  1. Austin Martin moved down to a 50FV. Wasn’t he a 60FV guy coming out of college? SWR also a 50FV. Objectively speaking, two 50FV for 1.5 years of a potential top of the rotation guy seems fair. People keep saying that we gave up more for Berrios than the Dodgers did for Scherzer and Turner, but Ruiz and Josiah Gray are both rated significantly higher.
  2. Tyler Glasnow getting Tommy John. He’ll be out until 2023 probably. Huge blow to the Rays.
  3. How much would it take to extend Berrios? $120M+? I just can’t shake this feeling that Atkins knows his number and is comfortable with it. This front office really does their due diligence when it comes to acquisitions and probably talked to his agent during the process to get a ballpark estimate.
  4. I was surprised when they protected him this offseason from the Rule 5. Didn’t think a guy who last played in A-ball would get claimed, but evidently they thought he would. Must’ve really liked what they say out of him from the alt-site.
  5. It’s fair to say that this front office doesn’t view Martin as an Alex Bregman or Anthony Rendon type, otherwise they wouldn’t have made this trade. Probably more of an above average regular than a future All-Star. IF that holds true, this becomes a much more equal deal on paper. If this front office is wrong in their valuation, they’re wrong. But the swiftness of them moving on from him speaks volumes.
  6. This article by Goldstein and Longenhagen seem to be quite down on Martin: https://blogs.fangraphs.com/twins-get-bounty-for-berrios-but-its-one-thats-not-without-risk/
  7. Yeah so the values at this years deadline is f***ed
  8. They've certainly earned the benefit of the doubt on my end.
  9. The thing that should ease everyones concern is that there are very few pieces this front office has traded away/let go that's bit them in the ass down the line. Even after moving Martin/SWR, we still have a Top 10 system quite easily. I'll put Ryu, Ray, Berrios, Manoah against any Top 4 in the AL. If we can get an extension done, even better.
  10. This a little misleading. Berrios was mega bad in his first season, but he's clearly not that pitcher. That one stint really drag his career numbers down. Since that point, 3.76 ERA. Not defending the trade, but still.
  11. They must have Groshans ranked higher than Martin internally. Feels a little lofty for 1.5 years of Berrios, but maybe he comes with an extension?
  12. Kevin Smith since June 1st: .331/.420/.657, 13.7 BB%, 20.7 K%, 178 wRC+ Video game numbers.
  13. He was sitting 91-93 in today’s outing, so he’s already made progress in that front. He was sitting 87-88 when he was first signed: https://baseballsavant.mlb.com/gamefeed?date=7/29/2021&gamePk=648824&chartType=pitch&legendType=pitchName&playerType=pitcher&inning=&count=&pitchHand=&batSide=&descFilter=&ptFilter=&resultFilter=&hf=pitchVelocity Andrew Tinnish went on record saying that Sem Robberse had one of the best deliveries he’s ever scouted in his career among amateurs. High praise. I’ve been excited for him ever since.
  14. Sem Robberse tonight: 7IP, 4H, 1ER, 1BB, 5K Kevin Smith between a double header: 4-for-6, 2 doubles, 1BB. Now slashing .302/.391/.611 in AAA.
  15. Scherzer AND Turner??? Holy s***. These Padres/Dodgers bidding wars are insane.
  16. I feel like prices are higher this season than when we traded Stroman. But it’s probably a decent comp. I’d value Berrios higher because he can actually get K’s though.
  17. Cashman pulling off transactions like his job is on the line. Which it very well might be.
  18. This is preferable to Boston actually getting him.
  19. The amount of prospects the Padres have given up since 2019 might literally be unprecedented. Preller is crazy, but damn is he exciting lol.
  20. Shatkins just setting the stage for a Jose Ramirez trade Biggio, Groshans, & Kloffenstein should be a good starting point.
  21. Looks like it’s Riley Adams for Brad Hand. A tad pricey for a rental reliever, but perfectly fine given the market I guess
