  1. Tanner Morris with another fantastic day at the plate: 3-for-4 with a 1BB and no K. Season slashline at AA is now .338/.488/.554 with a 1.042 OPS. I'm at the point where I'm at least a little intrigued by what he's doing, despite his age and level. If anyone wants to do some video scouting: Seems like a short swing from the left side. Kinda gives me Daniel Murphy vibes. He turned on 96 mph easily in one of those videos, and also smoked a home run to dead centre in another. No idea what his defense is like, but I'm definitely keeping an eye on him.
  2. Jared Kelenic now has a .487 OPS on the season with a 41% k-rate. Season slashline is .134/.203/.284 Through 115 major league games, he’s slashing .173/.255/.339 for a .594 OPS. I don’t know how many players in history start their career with a <.600 OPS (min 450 PA) and turn out to be superstars, but I can’t imagine the list is very long.
  3. Orlevis has one of the more intriguing statlines in minor league baseball right now: .203/.236/.507, good for a .743 OPS with 26K and 1BB. Strictly OPS wise, he’s doing okay. But that’s because he’s hitting homers and not doing much else.
  4. Some intriguing under the radar prospects, now that we're a month in: High-A: Trent Palmer today in High-A: 6IP, 0H, 0ER, 0BB, 8K. Drops his season ERA to 1.69 through 4 starts. If he keeps this up, he'll probably be at AA really soon since he's already 23 years old too. AA: 24-year-old Tanner Morris went 3-for-4 with a walk and a homer today. Raises his season OPS to 1.009 with more walks than K's (17-14). He was our 5th round pick from 2019 that was always heralded for bat-to-ball, but he's been tapping into some power lately. AAA: Logan Warmoth has a .958 OPS with a 16% K-rate. He started hot last season too before faltering, but it ended up being a bit of a facade with his elevated K-Rate and BABIP. A little bit more sustainable now.
  5. Actually kind of excited to see Vinny Capra. He seemingly turned a corner after 2020 and has been doing well in the minors since. Specifically against LHP: ’21 @ AA: .493/.541/.866 ’22 @ AAA: .364/.417/.455
  6. Final Tiedemenn line: 5IP, 0H, 0BB, 9K, 58 pitches. Was sitting 96-97 mph on his 4-seamer
  7. Phelps or Mayza really should be in the setup roles for the time being. It’s a bit unfair to say putting Garcia in there was a bad move because of how good he’s been lately, but he barely had a spring because of visa issues and is probably still ramping up. Velo is noticeably down from career averages. When he gets more comfortable and earns it, you can start consistently throwing him in those situations. But I feel much more at ease with Phelps, Mayza, Merryweather, and maybe even Cimber depending on matchups in setup. Regardless, I’m happy with how Charlie has managed the bullpen so far. I love the quick hook and moving on to the next guy quickly if things aren’t working. Not too much to complain about.
  8. Sem Robberse with a great performance: 7IP, 2H, 0ER, 1BB, 7K, 82 pitches.
  9. Gausman is just sonning them right now.
  10. Props to Peña for getting to that pitch. 97 bottom of the zone. Kid is good. Still have yet to lose a series and it’s almost the end of April. Let’s beat up on the Red Sox at home now.
  11. Reese McGuire has a 54 OPS+ with the White Sox. Atkins really f***ed around and got a decent player for Reese f***ing McGuire. God tier GM.
  12. Disappointing to see Anthony Kay’s minor league numbers so far. Didn’t even get through a full inning and gave up 3 runs. 16.20 ERA in AAA so far.
  13. Gausman with a -0.93 FIP so far today lol. His slider looks much sharper today. If you have a good slider and an elite splitter like Gausman, that’s just unfair.
  14. Bisons update: Samad Taylor was 2-for-2 with 4 walks in todays game. Logan Warmoth has a 1.096 OPS in the early going
  15. He also barely threw his slider, which is far and away his best secondary. Seems like he was primarily working on his changeup. And he still dominated barring the walks.
  16. Never gave up 6 ER in a single start with us last season. Max was 5.
  17. Maybe Jared Kelenic and Jo Addell actually just suck.
  18. Still have zero idea why Kikuchi uses that cutter as much as he does. Pretty long track record at this point of it being an ineffective pitch. From 2021: Cutter: .426 xWOBA, 19.5 Whiff% 4-seam: .362 xWOBA, 30.3 Whiff% Slider: .286 xWOBA, 31.2 Whiff% Changeup: .194 xWOBA, 39.6 Whiff% You have major leaguers unable to do anything against your secondary pitches. Yeah, the results against the fastball aren’t great, but if you ditch that cutter and focus on controlling the fastball and sequence it well alongside your secondaries, you could be really good. I’ll give Kikuchi a pass for a couple starts because the Jays and Pete Walker apparently don’t mess with pitch mix immediately after acquiring a pitcher, but I’ve already seen enough of that cutter after one start.
  19. Gabriel Moreno in the lineup batting 2nd today for the Bisons against….Aaron Sanchez.
  20. 4-seam fastball: 91-93 mph slider: 79-80 mph changeup: 83mph
