Even if he replicated his numbers from 2015 in 2016, would there have been a team crazy enough to give Bautista $150 million? Cespedes got $110 million over 4 years. Bautista is the better bat, but Cespedes can provide some value on the field, and he's younger. Don't think Bautista would've even gotten $100 million given his age and how the market for sluggers played out in the offseason.

BP says it's a good college draft. I think we had a really good draft last season. Zeuch, Woodman, and Bichette were solid picks. Excited to see what Shatkins does with 2 first round draft picks.

First basemen we could've gotten this offseason for cheaper (or just slightly more) rather than Justin Smoak: Brandon Moss ($6 million) Chris Carter ($3.5 million) Pedro Alvarez (N/A) Adam Lind (Minor League Deal) Mitch Moreland ($5.5 million) Justin Morneau (N/A) Logan Morrison ($2.5 million) Trevor Plouffe ($5.25 million) Sean Rodriguez ($5.75 million) Eric Thames ($5 million) Dae Ho Lee ($2 million) Not counting the plethora of relievesr who would've cost about the same if not slightly more than Smoak, but would've provided a lot more value out of the pen than he would outta first base.

f***ing eh. Just platoon Pompey with Upton and keep Pearce at 1B. I don't want Smoak near the lineup on a regular basis.

He did put up pretty solid numbers in AA as a starter. Worth a shot, but I'd still rather see him in the bullpen unless someone really breaks out during Spring Training. -
Travis Wood headed to the Royals. As much as I dislike the Royals, they've had a solid offseason. Under the radar, but still good. I'd say they have a decent chance at a wildcard this season before their entire core hits free agency.

Delgado, Olerud, Halladay, Alex Rios and Vernon Wells were consensus Top 5 prospects in their times. Not sure if any of them were #1 though.

Was it ever confirmed that this front office offered Edwin 4 years $80 million + a $20 million 5th year option? If so, that's a good indication that this front office will spend.

Trumbo didn't do that much better than Carter that he warranted a $40 million deal. Both Trumbo and Carter are pretty similar. Strictly power guys with high K% and bad everywhere else. Carter will get something. He'll DH for the Rays or something on a dirt cheap $4-5 million deal. I really don't expect him to go to Japan. Probably just a negotiating tactic.

He'll be pitching 1 inning at most, if not used exclusively against lefties. It'll be fine.

Yeah, that Marco Estrada guy isn't gonna get anywhere with a 88 mph fastball. Ditto with that Kyle Hendricks guy.

Mark Trumbo hit 47 HR and had an OBP of .316 in 2016 and gets a 3 year $37.5 million contract Chris Carter hit 41 HR and had an OBP of .321 in 2016 and can't seem to get a major league deal.
