Marco Estrada is a free agent after this season, and one could argue he's been our most consistent pitcher these past few years. He's already been worth more than his contract just one season in.
Statline with the Blue Jays so far: 22-17, 3.30 ERA, 357.0IP, 127 ERA+, 1.081 WHIP, 4.28 WHIP
He's been worth 7.0 WAR in his tenure with the Jays so far.
Positives:
- Doesn't rely on velocity to pitch, so he might age better comparative to other pitchers
- Unbelievably clutch in the postseason. 2.64 ERA in 47 innings pitched
Negatives:
- Back issues and is injury prone (pitched with a herniated disc all of the second half apparently)
- Will be 34 in July
So do we try to get him back after this season? Would you want him back even if he has another good season given his age? Discuss.
