  1. At least the offseason can begin in earnest now. It's certainly going to be a kick in the nuts to be signing lesser lights like Chapman but such is life.
  2. Dodgers Nation is doubling down on their report that Ohtani is signing with the Blue Jays. They claim they have multiple sources who verify this to be true. https://dodgersnation.com/when-will-shohei-ohtanis-saga-end-latest-on-the-two-way-stars-free-agency/2023/12/09/
  3. The Morosi omission is my only complaint with the article. I can only guess that perhaps Davidi and Morosi are buddies or something and this was done to protect a friend but this is pure speculation on my part. In a way the Morosi thing was indirectly referenced as the article mentioned unverified social media reports, which is basically what so many social media posts contain nowadays even from so-called "insiders". Unfortunately social media has greatly blended into traditional reporting so that it's becoming increasingly difficult to separate fiction from reality. I think that the existence of Twitter has largely ruined the traditional media as far too many individuals are clamoring to be the first to report something whether it's true or not. I detest that "news" stories are even including tweets now which for the most part seem to be statements of personal opinion rather than verified facts.
  4. It seems that a few members of the BBWWA really jumped the gun yesterday which really allowed the whole mess to take off. It's a sad day when Jim Bowden of all people is a voice of reason in the online discourse.
  5. I would guess that the baseball journalism world as a whole is going to be very cautious after yesterday's speculative traditional and social media frenzy.
  6. Have you read the article? Right at the very beginning he directly implicates the Dodgers Nation writer as having jumped the gun. Last I checked Davidi isn't the head of Rogers Media or Sportsnet as a whole so I don't know what you expected for him to do to direct the networks decision making with regards to covering this situation as it unfolded. If it actually proved to be true they would be left holding their dicks and be completely behind the news cycle.
  7. I suggest you can consider reading the piece and then judge for yourself if there is any "scolding" whatsoever contained within. To my eyes it read as more of a precautionary piece warning not to get too excited before credible sources (Morosi aside) begin to corroborate what is being reported.
  8. Davidi didn't s*** on fans in the slightest. I read the article a second time and it outlined the dangers of blindly believing unverified social media posts that whipped all of MLB as a whole into a frenzy, including executives, agents and the fanbase. I was as excited about anyone yesterday, but at the end of the day that's on me for allowing myself to get caught up in the frenzy. This is a case of people choosing to be offended instead of reflecting on their own actions. In his defense he didn't utter a single peep about this until it was proven to be false later in the evening. He's part of a sporting news media organization, and for all we know he was sent by his editor to get in front of this on the off chance it proved to be true.
  9. Yeah asking to extend the guy further is peak insanity. The later years of that deal are already likely going to be largely underwater and the club would almost certainly receive no value in guaranteeing further money for a player into his 40's.
  10. It seems more likely that Ohtani simply wasn't interested in signing in New York.
  11. The team received the same type of derision from American sports media back when they were winning world series titles as well so it's nothing new. It just went into hibernation for several decades.
  12. I hope it's actually final this time around. I experienced such an adrenalin surge earlier today that I've been running on fumes ever since the initial signing reports were denied.
  13. I'll finally do myself a massive favor and put you on ignore permanently.
  14. Adding Ohtani to that lineup would quite literally not be fair.
  15. If you add Ohtani to the Jays and fill the other remaining holes I wouldn't be so sure about that.
  16. If the dude is plastered all over Canadian media 24/7 it will be hard for Ohtani to avoid attacting a ton of extra attention.
  17. OMFG MLB trade rumors is reporting this as well: https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2023/12/blue-jays-to-reportedly-sign-shohei-ohtani.html
  18. Looks like Vlad lost a ton of weight already this offseason.
  19. Not when one of them still has MVP upside and the other one was a top of the rotation pitcher a year ago.
  20. It seems that he was innocent of the initial incident that got him into trouble but apparently MLB had several other potential victims that came forward with similar claims. The arbitrator that heard the case didn't completely eliminate the suspension/exonerate Bauer and just reduced the length of it so it stands to reason that Bauer made have performed other misdeeds sufficient to warrant a still really lengthy suspension even after the reduction is factored in. I suspect we will never know the full story here given the secrecy that has surrounded the process.
  21. It feels so incredibly close but I'm waiting for more acknowledged baseball insiders to officially announce this before I go full on party like it's 1999 mode.
  22. I'd be totally down with a Bauer signing but I have a really hard time seeing Rogers being on board with signing such a polarizing/controversial figure.
