  1. Happiness is more important than money. If he already has a house and financial security (which he only wouldn't have if he's terrible with money) why be unhappy for 2 years? Is an extra $10-20 million going to change his life? Probably not. However, early retirement would change his life if he's not happy working.
  2. Panda will surely go back to the Giants now. Couldn't have gone much worse for the Red Sox. Travis Shaw currently at 2.8 WAR for the Brewers too.
  3. I wouldn't be surprised to see us adding someone like Gordon with a few years of control, where the other team are looking to save salary. One benefit of the previous 2 seasons of winning baseball is the increased payroll flexibility to add salary when required.
  4. Fans will always come back to watch a winning team in Toronto. Attendance would collapse during a rebuild, and there might be a delay in increases if we suck for years, but people will still want to watch top quality sport in the future.
  5. Obviously yeah - if he was on our team we'd all love him.
  6. It's great to see good defense from the team - JD and Jose's throws, the Tulo & Goins double play, and that Pillar catch. Defense was a big part of the team's success the last 2 seasons.
  7. ^ this guy gets it - building around Tepera and Leone is the obvious way to go! /s
  8. This thread wasn't which one you would pick for just this season. There's every chance Sanchez has the better career. Last year: Sanchez = 3.9 WAR, 3.55 FIP and the AL leader in ERA (3.00); Stroman = 3.6 WAR, 3.72 FIP, 4,37 ERA. We should just be grateful that we've got two young controllable starters who when injury free can be borderline aces.
  9. Haha that's what makes it even better! Apparently the Hawks were thinking they'd go up to $45m.
  10. The 2 best things about this deal is that they drafted him originally and ended up trading him for Jerian Grant. And even better - this free agent contract includes a 15% premium that would have to be paid if he is traded again, making him basically untradeable. Can only assume they have a bet with the Nets as to who can be the worst run New York sports franchise.
  11. The $228million includes the $58million on his contract contract which has 2 years left. So for a four year extension he'll be getting an extra $170million - $42.5million AAV. Still crazy numbers!
  12. Welcome to the board! The historically bad start to the season makes the playoffs unlikely this year. However, trading expiring and short term contracts, a few prospects getting playing time, and if people like Sanchez are injury free and get back to in form, then next season can be a lot more promising than some here would have you believe. The second wildcard spot is wide open but there's likely too much ground to make up.
  13. Solid win, encouraging to see Stroman, Tulo and JD being good.
  14. His 7 year career WAR before this season was 0.3, so in that sense he's overachieving. Whether this season's Smoak is the new normal for him is another question.
  15. Good job Montero isn't catching /s
  16. Astros (59-28) Springer - CF Reddick - RF Correa - SS Gattis - DH Gonzalez - 2B McCann - C Gurriel - 1B Bregman - 3B Aoki - LF Fiers (5-3, 3.80 ERA) Blue Jays (40-46) Bautista - RF Martin - C Donaldson - 3B Smoak - 1B Morales - DH Tulowitzki - SS Carrera - LF Pillar - CF Barney - 2B Stroman (8-5, 3.42 ERA)
  17. That's just what I wanted.
  18. Nice, this makes me happy.
  19. Yeah Gurriel was always going to drop after missing most of the season. I still fully expect to see him in the majors sometime in the next 1-2 years.
  20. Also Gurriel dropped from 68 to 90.
  21. Yankees are a great example of why retool can be just as successful as rebuild. Most of the big market teams have too much to lose by tanking. Retooling doesn't always work, but then all a rebuild guarantees is a few years of awful baseball.
  22. No, the upside to not tearing it all down is not having 3+ unnecessary years of 100 loss seasons.
  23. As scary as any operation involving the heart is, it thankfully sounds like it's not too serious.
  24. Hunter Greene negotiations could go down to the wire According to this article he's been offered the largest ever signing bonus (i.e. over $7million) but he wants a bit more and the Reds are worried about going over their draft bonus pool.
