  1. We've had 25 different players on the DL this season.
  2. Yeah arbitration, but he's not going to get much. It's probably wishful thinking to see him gone. I was convinced they'd get rid of him this year to keep Upton and it didn't happen.
  3. Yeah that's a good plan. Barney is a UFA so he won't be back. Goins has 3 years remaining of control so he'll probably still be here as a bench player, until either Travis has an injury free season, or we replace him. Then if they think Refsnyder is worth keeping as depth, he has an option remaining.
  4. Gurriel may well be ready next season.
  5. We've had so many things go wrong this season, and we're still not that far off the wildcard. FWIW I can't see us making it this year, but at least it's encouraging for next season.
  6. What a great double play, excellent job to get out of the inning.
  7. TBF he had a horrendous June which distorts his figures - you can't really include that month to look at his overall performance if you're going to exclude March and April. He's at 126 wRC+ and 1.6 WAR overall. Not a superstar but well worth his contract.
  8. http://i.imgur.com/2f9VGIG.jpg http://i.imgur.com/jd772LL.jpg
  9. Cole has only pitched 12 innings this season but hasn't given up an earned run. Nothing to lose by giving him a chance. How many times has Bolsinger been DFA now? Must be quite demoralising for him.
  10. Not normally but as hard as it is to believe, Stanton was apparently reluctant to sign the contract so they gave him everything he wanted.
  11. He's with the Twins.
  12. Chance they try to trade him in the offseason as his salary jumps up $10.5m. He's got a full no trade clause though.
  13. Bartolo Colon with a complete game, 20 years after his first.
  14. Biagini sent to AAA to "strengthen his arm" according to Gibby - looks like when he comes back he'll be starting again. Makes sense to use the remainder of the season as a testing ground - get Alford up too please.
  15. Sanchez and Travis combined WAR last season = 6.4 Combined WAR this season = 0.7
  16. I think there's a good chance they give out a few short (1/2 year) contracts to either veterans or starters trying to rebuild value, on top of the usual AAA depth signings. I hope we start the season with Biagini in the rotation, and if he can't do it then just move him to the bullpen. No point spending money on the bullpen, unless you go for truly elite relievers. Just do what we always do and pick up various cheap players, some who will be good, some who won't.
  17. It the basis of a team that could compete for a wildcard. And if people like Gurriel, Alford and Hernandez are good, then it could be even better. And then in 2019 Bo and Vlad could be ready, Stroman and Sanchez could be entering their peak years, and we can concentrate on replacing Martin at C. Of course the worst case is that injuries strike again, and none of the prospects pan out, but until that happens I'll remain positive.
  18. Honestly, I just can't see it. Alford, Hernandez and arguably Smith Jr are probably first in line ahead of him for a 25 man spot. He only ever got one chance and he messed it up. I agree that this was his year, with us not in a playoff race and all the injuries he would have likely had another chance, but he was injured again. Maybe he gets a shot if we have another injury marred season, but I think it's more likely he's part of a trade to take advantage of what little prospect capital he still has.
  19. Yeah I like that idea. Gurriel could be that guy too if we can't acquire anyone suitable.
  20. Pompey is basically a bust with us, and Pearce will hopefully be a part time OF when we trade one of the 3 1B/DH players. Very little chance Carrera is non tendered, he's a very cheap 4 OF who's been OK in that role for 3 years. If Alford and Hernandez turn into competent starters next year then we're good, but if they don't we're short. This FO likes to have insurance so I think they'll target a OF in the offseason.
  21. I would still say moving Morales is preferred if we don't have to give up anything to dump him, as the DH position being locked up for 2 more seasons isn't ideal. Martin and Smoak could both need to play there more in 2019 if they're both still here (plus Donaldson if he signs an extension). Even if all 3 are gone, a DH that can also play 1B fairly regularly is a lot better.
  22. The Morales contract isn't that outrageous - $11m in 2018 and $12m in 2019. If Morales is just OK the next 2 years then he provides value. It's not completely unrealistic that he may put in 1 WAR seasons if the FO was right about him. I'll willing to give the FO the benefit of the doubt after Smoak's transformation.
