  1. The front office wanted to replace EE quickly after he turned down a new contact, and their internal metrics projected Morales to be successful. IMO the 3rd year should have been an option year, but his agent is Boras so he probably demanded 3 guaranteed years to sign.
  2. I didn’t notice him looking at his finger or anything though
  3. Grichuk rips it into LF to cash in Pillar. Hope we see that many times when the games count!
  4. Former Jay Matt Boyd for the Tigers too.
  5. Well the Rays did DFA Dickerson so anything they got was a bonus (though of course most people would have said they shouldn't have done that in the first place)
  6. Yeah lots of options still available. Related - Chavez just signed for the Rangers.
  7. The worry is that he’ll never be 100% healthy because his knee is f***ed up.
  8. It was reported that Turner really wanted to stay and deliberately took a hometown discount. The Nationals offered him a larger deal.
  9. Part of the process of creating projections look at past history. It’s not as simple as just taking last year’s performance and extrapolating it. JD projects to 6WAR and if he’s fit for the majority of the season that’s conservative. Turner at the time of his contract had gone from 3 to 4 to 5 WAR in consecutive seasons from nothing. He’d have been projected for around 4 WAR, i.e. 50% less than JD. Turner possibly is the best comparison, but he’s not on the same level so if anything that’s helps JD ask for more. Could see JD getting a front loaded contract at $30m for the first few years, with an opt out.
  10. Not really - Turner had never earned more than $5.1m, wasn't a superstar, and took a significant hometown discount because he loved the situation with the Dodgers.
  11. Yeah works for both parties really, he must be assuming he can get more money if he opts out. As it's front loaded even if he decides to stay to chase rings or declines rapidly it doesn't hamstring the Red Sox budget wise too badly. If the AAV was evenly spread out then $22m for a DH from 2020 onwards would have been a big commitment.
  12. Has another opt out after year 3 too.
  13. 2 years at $11.5m AAV - he only needs to be OK to justify the cost, and if he doesn’t improve then eating the last year wouldn’t be crippling for the budget. Diaz and Solarte are a pretty good middle infield. Pearce isn’t a vital player. Agree - this is absolutely key to the season. Unless it affects the clubhouse (and there isn’t any indication it has so far) then it’s irrelevant. It’d be a bonus if his bat ever improved but he’s been by far our best outfielder for 2 years in a row and likely will be again this year (unless one of the prospects comes through).
  14. Eovaldi is back from Tommy John now so he's in the mix too.
  15. If Estrada believes he was tipping his changeup last year then with a small adjustment he could improve quite a bit. Our rotation could be really, really good this year (if Sanchez is fit!).
  16. Horford for Curry and Aldridge for James. After the game LeBron then revealed his starter picks were in order: Kevin Durant, Anthony Davis, Kyrie Irving, DeMarcus Cousins.
  17. That seems a light return for 2 years of control - once again the Rays are showing how cheap they are.
  18. Makes 8 years look a lot better.
  19. I’m worried Sanchez’s blister will affect his season again, if he’s fully fit it makes a massive difference and I agree he’d be the number 1 starter. However, Stroman deserves to be the opening day starter this season based on last year.
