  1. You can find a better fat shaming pic than that mate:
  2. The Rays are going to confirm their intended plans for their new stadium later today. How much funding will their billionaire owner ask for from the state?
  3. Yeah a minor league deal for a non elite pitcher is never a bad thing. If it’s the year they catch lightning in a bottle great, if not then no worries.
  4. Wow - what a disastrous sequence of trades for the Cavs, Irving really screwed them by forcing his way out.
  5. In that scenario you can't count the $23m he's already getting in 2018, so it's effectively $117m for 4 years, plus 2 vesting years. Zero chance his agent even responds to an offer that low, even if he was desperate to stay with the Jays.
  6. Obviously that's a worse case scenario (see my subsequent post!). But yeah I don't think we should be giving $30m a year for 6 years to a player who will be 33 when the extension kicks in, when his most recent (age 31) season was marred by injuries. IMO it's too big a risk considering we're at least 1 or 2 years away from competing.
  7. Yeah definitely. I don't think anyone has worn his number in San Francisco since he retired either.
  8. They were waiting for some of the controversy to die down. With Bonds getting 5% more HoF votes this year, his potential election gets ever closer (which is a good thing IMO). 4 more years of eligibility left!
  9. Of course he could be fully fit this year, put up 8 WAR and be worth a monster contract. As a professional sportsman he'll be backing himself to do that, so he probably won't sign an early extension now. If we were closer to the peak of our cycle of competitiveness I'd be less concerned with a 6 year commitment, as you have to overpay to secure elite talent in free agency.
  10. 6/180 could look very bad in as little as 2 years. IMO JD needs to have an injury free year to try to get anywhere near a six year commitment from us when for at least the near future we're not going to be one of the main contenders. If last year was the beginning of his body starting to break down injury wise (separate from any natural skills age based regression) we might be committing to a player who regularly misses half a season.
  11. Well if we don't sign another starter he'll be competing for the 5th rotation spot in Spring Training. But most likely he'll begin as a starter at AAA. His injuries have ruined his career, so he may end up with a better chance of making the majors as a reliever. But he's still a starter (with an option left) at the moment so it makes more sense having him at Buffalo.
  12. Ohtani #1, Vlad #3
  13. At last you're finally admitting you're full of s*** /s And yeah, one of the mods (Hurl?) said the error is a known issue.
  14. 3 point shooting so far isn’t going to get it done!
  15. First Raptors game I’ve streamed live in a while - I'd forgotten how annoying Jack Armstrong is.
  16. Yeah that’s fair. FWIW I’m still a supporter of pursuing signing Cobb.
  17. IMO that doesn’t make much sense unless you specifically mean overpaying someone. If this season is bad and we end up rebuilding then a OK (or better) pitcher with control is an asset that can be traded. If we don’t rebuild, then at the end of this season both Happ and Estrada’s contracts expire.
  18. Osuna lost his arbitration - he’s at $5.3m for the season (asked for $5.8m).
  19. TBF it’s more the number of remaining free agents and the large number of teams not spending money on anyone that they’re unhappy about.
  20. Even though he played a handful of games in the majors last year, I'd almost completely forgotten about Urena. Him and Smith Jr both appearing in the majors just shows you how much weaker our infield and outfield depth was last season.
  21. Yeah, the pressure of being the biggest bust ever can’t be healthy. He’s set up financially and can do something he enjoys now. As a sign of how unhappy he must have been, after one particularly bad minor league game he did this: http://i.imgur.com/3Q7goIj.jpg
  22. Plenty of reasons. Bautista can play some games at 1B and RF, shorter contract, smaller salary, he claims he has an excuse for being bad last year (vision problems), it would be a popular move with many fans, he’s never been one dimensional (a power hitter but also elite at drawing walks). We shouldn’t do it because if we somehow dumped Morales on the Royals, Pearce would still be a better option than Bautista. 50/50 Bautista is done, but a team with space for a DH can give him a cheap 1 year deal with little risk. We’re just not that team.
