  1. The baseball reporters are all so desperate to be the first to share news it's weird. Heyman recently had a row with some ESPN(?) reporter on twitter where he called him out for "stealing" info on a deal without crediting the original reporter. No one cares who shared the news first as it's normally all over the internet within an hour anyway.
  2. Walker signed for a World Series contender where he'll play every day. To sign here, a wildcard contender with a glut of middle infielders, we'd have to pay more. In isolation it's still a bargain for a 2 WAR player but you can't just ignore the $23m commitment you're cutting either.
  3. Pillar went 3 for 3 today with a walk, and is hitting over .500 in Spring Training. Is the the year his bat finally wakes up........ No (but it's nice to dream!)
  4. Stroman has been ruled out for opening day.
  5. Maile sucks but they like his calling of games and I think it's more likely McGuire starts at AA and Jansen at AAA. I think they'll prefer for both to be playing every game than catching once or twice a week in the majors. I agree that being close to Martin could be invaluable in their development though so if Maile becomes a liability hopefully they won't hesitate to promote one of them.
  6. 32 with an injury history - perhaps no one wanted to give him multiple years and on a 1 year deal he'd rather chase a ring than go for more money elsewhere (Yankees couldn't really afford to offer more). Still a steal though.
  7. 1 year $5m, that's a fantastic deal for the Yankees.
  8. Yeah and both turned down a QO, they must have anticipated offers of at least 3/40. Shocking that no team is willing to pay that.
  9. Will be interesting to see if Morales can avoid being a complete liability at 1B. Would give us more flexibility with DH, especially if Smoak isn’t as good as last year (a real risk) and no longer has to be in the lineup.
  10. It’s what every single team does every year.
  11. Except to get a reliable reliever, you have to sign them to a ridiculous contract. Hence the strategy of signing lots of cheap / minor league deals to complement prospects, and seeing who plays well. There is also no down side to signing a reliever to a minor league contract.
  12. The Franklin/Theodore troll has made the politics thread unreadable.
  13. Anthony Gose the Astros Rule 5 pick (as a reliever) lasted 3 batters (all walked) before the Astros decided he wasn't going to make the 25 man.
  14. As you can see the majority of threads dissolve into people insulting each other, so you’ll want to make use of the ignore function! /s
  15. Patience - he’ll get a chance.
  16. And I think Albuquerque makes it over both haha.
  17. Another thing to consider - we’re at a full 40 man squad. I think at least 1 of Alburquerque, Axford and Breslow will make the team, so unless Tulo hits the DL someone is getting DFA. Would like it to be Maile, but doesn’t seem like that’s the plan. Guerriei? Pompey? It was possibly a mistake protecting Tellez from rule 5 in hindsight.
  18. The issue with having him on the bench is you’re effectively using a bench that’s one man short. Unless Pearce is at 1B, you’re almost never going to bring him on. Perhaps they can use the 10 day DL a few times to take him out of the lineup?
  19. Yeah 2 left. I use this site for checking options: https://www.rosterresource.com/mlb-toronto-blue-jays
  20. So who celebrated Carrera’s DFA too soon /s
