    The pecking order for me is Pop > Merryweather > Saucedo. As far as I'm concerned Pearson is out for the season with mono until proven otherwise.

    Yes. With the new rule that you can't carry more than 13 pitchers, we absolutely have the roster space to carry a pure pinch runner/defensive replacement. What do you think the run probability difference is when you pinch run Hamilton for Kirk late in the game? Probably huge. I would love to carry a 3rd catcher again so we can do this often. It gives Kirk some innings off his feet as well. With Biggio and Merrifield covering the outfield I would love to dump Bradley Jr. and Tapia for Hamilton and Collins. The front office has a boner for Tapia so this would never happen.

    Manoah has also been insanely consistent all year, which counts. Basically there has never been a single game where he has f***ed us over. Gausman is unhittable most of the time but occasionally will pitch like Kikuchi.

    Last night he needed work. Tonight he was fully warmed up when they extended the lead. If Cimber gets into any trouble Romano's has to come in anyways. Bass can close tomorrow. I would've gone with Cimber but going with Romano wasn't that stupid.

    I like Cimber with the 4 run lead and the matchups but I can see why they went with Romano.

    Purely going by eye test Biggio looks very good in the OF and 1B. Merrifield looks better at 2B. I wish they would play Biggio in CF. He can really run and he can't be worse than Tapia.

    Someone should give Tapia steroids so we can finally stop playing him.

    There's no one to option for Gage except Thornton, who is the only guy with length. Gage is basically a 1 inning guy. With Kikuchi and Berrios making 40% of your starts, you're guaranteed to have an occasional bullpen abuse day.

    Playoff teams should have competent MLB players as depth in case of injury. The bullpen composition is really messed up with Mayza's injury. I think they have to keep Thornton up because he's the only reliever with any length. That also means Cimber is basically the honorary lefty reliever. with no true lefties. Once Stripling comes back either White or Kikuchi can slide into the long role and Thornton can go down. But that leaves a full bullpen with no optionable relievers. I really wish they had dumped Richards to a rebuilding team at the deadline. He's has big strikeout numbers and is under control for a few years, I'm sure a noncontending team has the luxury of trying to convert him into a closer with trade value. I would much rather have the roster spot to cycle optionable guys based on needs and matchups.

    Anthopoulos accomplished more in 5 years than Atkins has in 7. He's just that much better now with Atlanta.

    Honestly, unless Berrios gets his s*** together soon, healthy Stripling might be our number 3.

    Even in this disaster season, Gallo has more generated more defensive and baserunning value than Tapia. Gallo has a higher wRC+ against righties this year. They have the same overall xwOBA. Gallo could remain this s***** for the rest of the year and he would probably still be a better fit for this team than Tapia.

    Haven't seen Pop live but he has given up 1 HR in 107 minor league innings. That is insane.

    This is huge news. A broken elbow with complications can be a career threatening injury for a pitcher.

    Collins hits well for a backup C but I see your point. His entire purpose is to free up Kirk to DH regularly. I do wish they would pinch run for Kirk more often (Kirk is like bottom 5 in baserunning value in the entire league). Also wish they would use Collins as a late inning defensive replacement to get Kirk and Jansen off their feet. To your point a glove first 3rd catcher would make this easier.

    Atkins shed salary that he created with that low IQ contract extension to Grichuk. Watch him sign Tapia to a multiyear deal chasing after potential surplus. Just watch.

    Zimmer versus a position player might actually be a fair matchup.

    Beasley's getting touched up but this is a great approach in this situation. 0-2 to every hitter.
