    This takes away the "draft the best talent available" argument though. The idea is to amass the greatest depth and deal from a position of overabundance to fill holes. If you can't trade worth s*** you lose your collected talent for less than you should have and end up with a weaker team.

    The only real issue I had with the trades is with the Stroman return. It seems like Atkins could have gotten the same deal if he had waited until the deadline so why didn't he? There is a significant chance the offer would have gotten better and little chance it would have disappeared or gotten worse. Should have waited...

    So we gave up a guy that doesn't matter short term because we suck for a guy that might be ok long term when we might be better. Pretty much what the Jays are supposed to be doing.

    My decision on whether Shapiro/Atkins get my vote of confidence will be heavily swayed by what they do leading up to the trade deadline this year. They need more back from the assets they have than they got last year. (I mean value wise relative to what they could have gotten) If they make prudent decisions and come away with solid rebuild pieces then I will trust them a lot more.

    Wait...did the front office check with Stroman first? I can't wait for Tabbie to tell us how big and strong he is. But seriously, any predictions on his first month or so batting line? I expect him to have a strong first 3-4 weeks, maybe a drop off once his tendencies get analyzed but not for long...he's just too good a hitter.

    Why hasn't anyone developed some kind of titanium or carbon lightweight shielding for batters gloves? If done right I can't imagine they would impede a players swing, hand angle or wrist movement.

    He seemed like a guy who was easy to root for. Horrible news when someone has had bad luck, works hard and starts to rebound and has bad luck again.

    That must be very demoralizing to the team that just gave him the lead. Now they get to go back out and try to do it again while thinking "why bother, he is just going to let them tie it up again". It's these type of situations that a veteran team can shake off, a young team can let this get to them. We will see how they react now I guess. Let's go Blue Jays.

    Clevinger looking great, Jays hitters looking like s***. Not a good combo. I was watching the game, decided to get up and do chores while I left it on in the background. Now having a hard time even keeping it on in the background.

    The way I see it is, of the teams with the top 5 (maybe 10) farm systems in the majors right now, how many of them legitimately competed for the world series in the last 5 years? I am satisfied with the way the team has transitioned from going for it all to building a base that has a chance to be elite in the next 5 years. Many teams have tried to transition and have failed before they even got to where the Jays are now.

    Who is your pick for "surprise/underdog" player of the year? I ask because I think Drury has a chance to have a really good bounceback year.
