  1. FanSided’s Robert Murray reports the Cubs and Jon Berti are in agreement on a one-year contract. MLB.com’s Mark Feinsand adds that the deal is for $2 million and includes $1.3 million in performance based incentives. That seems like a solid deal for a utility infielder.
  2. Guardians signed RHP Paul Sewald to a one-year, $7 million contract with a $10 million mutual option for 2026. It will be interesting to see if Sewald can return to previous form, or if his smoke and mirror show has come to an end.
  3. I'd love to see us add speed and stolen bases to this team. Love what it brings to the team and from an entertainment perspective. If we end up starting Clement at 3rd this year, I'll at least be happy with the speed he brings to the lineup on a daily basis.
  4. If this is true - then that's a perfectly good explanation. I think it's safe to assume that Rogers gave Atkins the "thumbs up" to cover the $11M to get the international money - possibly to give us a better shot at landing Sasaki and it likely will have no impact on our 2025 budget. I know this might be crazy, but perhaps Atkins didn't get caught with his pants down - not knowing that he could wait and make that trade later, if Sasaki did sign with Toronto. Maybe he didn't sacrifice any remaining 2025 budget or eat into CBT space that they might be looking at. I'm certainly not surprised, as even for Atkins, those initial claims just didn't make a lot of sense. This is a good example of why fans should wait for more/better information to become available - or just give the guy the benefit of the doubt a bit - before jumping to conclusions and making all kinds of BS allegations and claims. People do this in general far too much and it's eroding society.
  5. Never saw a minor league deal I didn't like. Both seem like solid moves. Lovelady has a great name and was lights out in AAA last year (like 13% K rate, <1% BB rate, FIP <1.00)
  6. No way he signs for $360M with deferrals. I could see $360M after you factor in the deferrals and that's the cap hit equivalent. Maybe...still seems low. I think he gets $450M with deferrals.
  7. If the Jays figured out how to defer money, and want to, then we may extend Vlad and Bo!
  8. Sabathia, Ichiro, Wagner elected to Hall of Fame https://thescore.com/mlb/news/3196650 Andruw Jones and Beltran are close. Now much love for King Felix and no love at all for David Wright or either Russel Martin or Brian McCann - just 2 of the very best to ever play the position.
  9. Report: Astros, Blue Jays showing interest in Profar https://thescore.com/mlb/news/3196506 If you think the adjustments he made last year are sustainable, he may come at a very reasonable price. He might be the type of upside flyer you need to take a chance on. He isn't the power guy that Robert is, but he may provide the same "upside" without having to give up any prospects.
  10. The CBT won't matter one bit to start the year. The question will be where we're at by the end of the year...
  11. Fans are 100% hopeful that Roden is a home grown player who becomes a valuable starter for this team on a league minimum contract. We aren't going to add enough impact bats that there's no room for Roden to push his way into the lineup this year.
  12. Insane. I just read all the money is deferred and will be paid out to Yates great grandchildren in 2079.
  13. Trevor Richards signs a minor league deal with the Cubs, with an invite to spring training.
  14. Don't get me wrong - I think AA is great. I was just saying it was easier to re-stock faster back then when you could trade for some average RPer with an expiring contract at the deadline and then not resign him and get a comp pick.
  15. You're suggesting we would have kept Price, thus matching or exceeding the 7 year $217M deal he signed with Boston? Boston/LA got 11.4 WAR out of that deal as Price started the decline as of 2016. Pretty happy we avoided that. The CBA at the time allowed Atkins to re-stock much faster than you can today. He was great at using those loopholes, but very hard to replicate since the changes in 2017.
  16. I should had added the word "near". The 2015 moves were made near the end of AA's window. The window was definitely still open in 2016. It just shut abruptly after that.
  17. Folks need to understand how deferrals work...
  18. Wagner has always been a high BB% guy in the minors...but we didn't see much of that at the ML level last year. I wouldn't start him there (keep the pressure off), but I could see him work his way to the top of the lineup if he's producing. His projections suggest he could hit near the top.
  19. Brian Giles was a f*cking beast back in the day. Dude had a 21% BB / 11.5% K rate, with a .622 SLG% in 2002. Dude could mash. If he started earlier, or could just have sustained it a hair longer, he's in the HOF
  20. Results are all that matters Spank 🙃
  21. He has the ability to (I think). 78th percentile sprint speed, essentially the same as Kim. Of course instincts and stuff matter too - as does getting on-base a lot (something Clement doesn't do, that Kim does).
  22. Not necessarily. I suspect the plan is to add enough for one last push. If it fails, we'll trade Vlad & Bo (and others) and start the rebuild. Santander can hit lots of HRs for a crappy team and at some point, may have value on the trade market that we can cash him in for prospects.
