    That's pretty crazy! I'd love to know how MLB teams view his value...but honestly, his bat is so terrible that he needs to be Ozzie Smith to warrant a starting job at the MLB level.

    Has anyone ever gotten the last word on your Grant? I'm curious how long we could keep this going. Such a firm stance on a subject built solely on rumours, verbal recounts and incomplete information is kind of dumb. How do you know Devers is a good employee?

    Unreal finish. Barger has been exactly what this team needs. The future of this franchise is drastically different if Barger is a 120-130 wRC+ hitter (and if Kirk is a 115-125 wRC+ hitter). What a game! Go Jays

    Do we know if there are any verbal agreements in Vlad's deal? I sure want to know if there's something we need to uphold 11 years from now.

    It does bug me - but if we miss the playoffs by a game, I'm not sure I'm going to nitpick the last couple of arms in the bullpen being the root cause when the bullpen has been fantastic this year. Swanson's pitched 5 1/3 innings this year man - the same # Dillon Tate has. Green was bad, but not horrific up until the end of May (xFIP of 4.08). I don't want either to be in the bullpen. Hurry back Garcia, Sandlin and Burr!

    To be fair - this years bullpen has been really really good. 2nd in MLB in xFIP and K/9. 7th in BB/9, 10th in WAR, etc. A massive bright spot for the team. Most teams have a couple of pretty useless pieces at the back end of their bullpen and we have some good to very good RPers coming off the IL soon to replace them.

    Isn't he just trying to hang on for dear life until Sandlin, Burr, Garcia, etc. are back healthy? It seems obvious those 2 need to go. I don't think they'll hesitate with Swanson - he's the first to go. They may pause on Green, but unfortunately, it looks like he's cooked. Any other options in AAA? I doubt they want to add someone to the 40 right now if Sandlin, Burr, Garcia are close... Tommy Nance looks to be the guy you'd call up from AAA if you wanted immediate help.

    Has Boston come out and admitted or disputed this verbal agreement was made? Or are we just going off what Devers says (through an interpreter)? Does anyone know this? It will be interesting to see if this affects the Red Sox moving forward. My guess is it doesn't. I don't disagree that some teammates may think the org did Devers dirty, but I doubt anyone on that team wishes they didn't sign Bregman, nor do they want Devers playing 3rd and Bregman playing some other position (1st or DH I guess? I doubt teammates want Bregman blocking Kristian Campbell at 2nd).

Wouldn't be hard to see a disagreement over what that meant (although I suspect "many" implies 4-5+). Are there better sources? This certainly exposes the issues with verbal agreements. You're just asking for issues when using them IMO. Get sh*t in writing.

    This caused me to look into the Frontier league. It's a bit crazy how much time and how far these adults are willing to travel to continue playing the game they love. The IBL in Ontario is already pretty wild (but good baseball).

    You're right - he doesn't have a formal responsibility to put the team and his teammates first. Or maybe he does? Maybe that was discussed verbally when the contract was signed? Even if it's not - who the F wants to be a teammate with a selfish c*nt who doesn't want to put the team and his teammates first? I understand having a spat with Ownership, but taking that out on your teammates and hurting your team isn't the right way to handle it. Both sides seem to be at fault. At the end of the day, the guy's a hack at 3rd base. It's a tough look to tell your teammates you're going to pout because they're playing Bregman at 3rd. You know every single player on that team knows playing Bregman at 3rd and Devers at 1st/DH gives the team the best chance to win.

    This is unfair. The move was to trade Teo for bullpen help and to replace his salary with a FA, which we did in KK, who was better than Teo that year. The org, for whatever reason, had decided to move on from Teo - likely expecting his bat to decline quickly in his early 30's. It looks liked a great decision in 2023, but the Dodgers helped him get back on track last year. So far so good this year - although his average exit velo and hard hit% are wayyy down this year, as are his walks. He's still been good and believe me, I love Teo and wish he was in our lineup, but he might be close to that ledge unfortunately.

    Why don't they put verbal agreements like that into the written agreement if it's that important to the player? The premise of Grant's argument is reasonable, but it doesn't dismiss the obligation for Devers to also be understanding that things may change - including his abilities. Choosing to uphold verbal agreements made by someone who's no longer in the organization over doing what's best for the team is selfish. He has a responsibility to put the team and his teammates first, which he isn't. That makes him a sh*tty teammate. Also - nobody is privy to any of these "verbal agreements" and thus they need to be taken with a grain of salt.

    I guess it's not really possible for him to go throw rehab games in the minors to work his way back. This certainly isn't the traditional way of doing it and took some out of the box ideas. It will be fascinating to watch this play out.

    I'm not sure I agree. He wasn't very good with the Brewers last year. His stats were propped up by a low BABIP and a high LOB%. He isn't very good, which is why he was just traded for Andrew Vaughn

    I mean - he's not very good and bitched about losing his rotation spot. He should likely be thrilled to join the White Sox as it's one of the few teams in baseball he can remain a starter for the rest of the year.

    Civale to the White Sox for Andrew Vaughn - interesting return! I wonder if a change of scenery will help Vaughn, or if he's a lost cause.
