  1. Another way to look at this is the market has changed. Nobody thought Soto was worth $700M+ last year when the Yanks traded for him - but here we are. If Vlad is "worth" $450-500M on the FA market, that means he's worth more on our current team than he was when we thought he was only worth a $200-300M extension.
  2. Touché, but Gimenez will have the same comment when their running the bases 😄 Maybe don't tell Roki this is the plan though? Keep it secret until he signs...then - surprise!
  3. Can you imagine what Gimenez is thinking the days we have Vlad at 3rd, Bo at SS and Alonso at 1st? "f*ck me - these guys suck"
  4. That's a really interesting article. It's a good example of how a team like the Jays can 100% be "in the running" or "a finalist" for a star player and the next day, they have almost no hope in hell of signing him due to reasons that are completely out of their control. Sounds like the Jays were 1 of 2 teams to put an offer on the table for Burnes and we may have been his preferred landing spot - until Arizona came out of the weeds and expressed real interest. As soon as that happened, we had no chance in hell.
  5. Jays could be using this to force Tony Taters to make a f***ing decision...
  6. I'm sorry, but a prediction to select 1 side of a 50/50 betting line isn't really "bold" - or at least not bold compared to the "bold" predictions we typically made on here. I'd typically suggest a "bold prediction" is something that's going to come true like 10-15% of the time. Not something that's a coin flip. It's like saying the O/U for the # of HRs that Bo hits this year is 19.5 and you're going to boldly suggest he'll hit 20+. Bold would be to suggest Bo is going to hit 35+ home runs this year.
  7. RIP Bob What an absolute legend. Harry Doyle will live on forever.
  8. Wait until Owen sees the "bold predictions" this board typically makes each spring. Picking the OVER on a 76.5 win season is about as bold as adding ketchup to your plate of fries (no offense).
  9. Correct - and one of them will be the starting CF on opening day. I can't see them playing Springer in CF very much at this point. I could see them trading one of Loperfido, Berroa or Clase, but I think they better hang onto Wagner, Barger and Clement. Ideally, you add enough that most of these guys are quality bench options. I suspect 1 of the Buffalo boys will start the season as a starter (or in a platoon), with another (Loperfido, Berroa or Clase) filling in for Varsho until he's healthy.
  10. Feels like you need to keep that depth given the uncertainty of them all. You can afford to guess wrong.
  11. I think you're going to have to count on at least one of them next year - of not 2 (probably Clement and/or Wagner). I think Barger is a real wildcard. He's has all the physical tools. I'm pretty confident we'll get good production from at least 1 of them. 2 is a stretch.
  12. The Red Rocket, Matt Bonner loved his public transit in TO. The UP Express is a nice ride. I now prefer it to the subway.
  13. Hopefully he's standing in LF - for the Blue Jays (and not injured).
  14. I agree. I think Swanson with his splitter was good v. LHH in the past, but we shouldn't rely on him. Minter would be a nice add to pair with Little.
  15. There are always going to be "if's". And to be honest, there were probably fewer "if's" in the bullpen heading into 2024 than there's ever been - and that didn't turn out very well.
  16. Honestly - if we end 2025 having traded Vlad and Bo, with a Top 5 farm system, avoid anymore albatross contracts and hired a new GM - I wouldn't be too upset. That might end up being what's best for this organization.
  17. 100% Roki + the equivalent remaining $ spent on several FA's >>> Soto
  18. I don't think Vientos is a massive overpay. Astros got 3 years of Paredes + Cam Smith (14th overall pick in 2024 draft) who lit it up and finished in AA last year for Kyle Tucker. Paredes is more proven than Vientos and is just good enough to stick at 3rd. Vientos probably shouldn't play 3rd anymore and that 30% K Rate could raises concerns, given he's only produced at the ML level for 450 PA's. 4 years of Vientos + prospects seems like a perfectly reasonable package for Vlad if we conclude we can't, or don't want to extend him. Fans would be super angry, but it might be the best baseball move they can make under these circumstances.
  19. He tried to make adjustments last year to get on plane better and reduce the IFF's. Perhaps helped a little. He probably needs to spend a full offseason in a lab, reconstructing his swing ala Justin Turner. People do it every year (like Rooker). Offseason shoulder surgery would have prevented that this year, so I don't expect much improvement.
  20. I think what you're saying is true. I think what Vancouverite is suggesting (in the first part) is that perhaps Roki wants to be the face of a franchise - he wants to be "the guy". In the second part, he's suggesting he wants to be on a team without "superstar" or perhaps even a "superstar diva" that thinks his sh*t don't stink. He wants to be in a culture where everyone is equal, regardless of talent/contracts. That may not be true in all clubhouses. I have no idea what Roki wants, but I hope that helps explain what Vancouverite was trying to suggest.
  21. I think for some, playing with Vlad would be frustrating as f*ck. Dude is the worst base runners in baseball, primarily due to his low baseball IQ. He's also a horrible fielder, who admits he doesn't work on his defense in the offseason. He also doesn't seem to have any self awareness and continued that ice bath bullsh*t way too long, which seemed to piss off his teammates. Oh and he's overweight, which impacts his ability to be the best ball player he can be. I'm sure some people like his happy, life of the party spirit - but suiting up next to this guy day in and day out for 162 games may drive some players nuts.
  22. I mean - he could become the spokesperson/face of Rogers Communication...no need to involve another company even. Rogers could sign him to some 6 year $200M deal to do commercials :)
