Yeah I get that....although Utley wasn't overly flashy either. He was never an MVP, never won gold gloves, no big post season numbers or championship rings to his name. He was a mid 20 to low 30 HR hitter, which didn't stand out much between 2005 and 2009. There were other 2nd basemen between 2005 and 2009 to have big years (Soriano, Phillips, Uggla, Pedroia and his MVP season), although none with the consistency of Utley.
For me - Utley was much like Edmonds. A very well rounded player who generated a ton of value on the defensive side (which was grossly undervalued in the mid 2000's).
