  1. That is an interesting observation. I wonder if that changes when Barger returns? I assumed they just thought Oka at 3rd, Clement 2nd and Sosa 1st was stronger defensively than Clement at 3rd, Sosa/DS at 2nd and Oka at 1st... Reports said Oka was GG level defensively at 1st in Japan, so I can't imagine the Jays are against playing him there. We just don't have the same defensively flexibility with Barger out.
  2. I like getting Seabold back. @sliderguy35 was pumping his tires this spring. Where is sliderguy35 btw? Did we scare him off?
  3. How do you think it felt in the 60's? LOL Dude pitched in 4 different decades! That's insane.
  4. Really? This guy looks awful. He lost 3+ MPH on his fastball last year - averaging 90.5 MPH warm piss as a RPer. Surely we have better options?
  5. I'm actually shocked Nolan Ryan isn't Top 3 all-time in HBP's. He's 15th, behind Roger Clemens. I wouldn't have guessed that. Roger had a temper, but he also had good control. Ryan was incredible, but he was very wild. Charlie Morton is 5th all-time in like half the innings of most of the too guys. Randy Johnson is 6th all-time. He must have hit a metric f*ckton early in his career, because he has great control for the last 2/3's of that amazing career.
  6. It's hard to fathom the fastest guy in the minors was 3 for 8 stealing bases in college last year. Did they forget to tell him he can "go" before the pitcher releases the ball?
  7. I had a whole paragraph that explained it man. I don't know what else to tell you. Obviously there is "some" element of current results factored in - but I'm not some SSS moron. The early results increase the concern.
  8. Detroit is entering a win cycle - I suspect they want more ML ready talent. Jays don't have it, and we typically don't make short sighted deals like that anyway. I do wonder how many times will line up to give a 30 year old Skubal some massive contract/extension. It's got deGrom written all over it.
  9. Dude - I didn't say he was falling into "bust status" after a couple of weeks worth of PA's. I said he was a high risk of busting the day he was drafted, which is fundamentally and statistically correct. Although I'm sure Olerud would point out that a 22 year old who can't hit CPX pitching has almost a 1000% chance of being a bust and that belief stabilizes after very few PA's.
  10. Unfortunately, I think there's a high probability that Cook is a bust. He seemed like a swing at upside, given his athleticism. The athlete is so good that we'll "fix him" and make him a ball player. Similar to Anthony Alford perhaps (although he was pre-occupied playing football and the hope was he'd become a ball player once he quit football). I would have said this before he played any games. Obviously far too early to declare he's a bust, but he's a high risk profile as someone who didn't have a ton of success in College. Good news is he also has a relatively high floor as his CF defense alone might drag him to the majors ala Anthony Gose (who's still trying to make it as a pitcher - he's in AAA for KC at age 35, still trying to live the dream). At least his name isn't Anthony.
  11. That helps, as Jake Cook is off to a brutal start.
  12. A healthy Yimi would be a massive shot in the arm for the pen.
  13. Spanky - I don't know what's going on, but this sounds serious. Deep breath friendo. Don't let him get the best of you.
  14. Big time effort today. Starting to play better ball boys!
  15. @Brandon Glick - this pitch table is missing Fisher's numbers from Thursday still. Must be a glitch in the code when a RPer starts a game?
  16. No I can't see them doing that unless they feel Valezuela needs full time playing time to continue his development. Who knows what how they view it. I think he's helped the big league team right now, so I want him to stay and contribute however he can.
  17. Varland may have asked for it too. We know they like those counting numbers. It helps with their arbitration numbers and how much they get paid. Or maybe JS just didn't want to take any chances. We need to build some momentum and blown leads/saves are super deflating.
  18. I doubt Giants fans have even heard of Spencer Miles. He threw like 12 professional innings for them in 3+ years. At some point they may catch on and realize they may have lost a legit arm - probably not there yet beyond the die-hard fans (like us).
  19. Heck of an AB for Valenzuela. Tough as nails. And his 1st ever SB. Gotta love what we've seen from him.
  20. I agree - that's why he cost nothing but a lottery ticket. We were just hoping to catch lightning in a bottle. I suspect they thought a new voice or a tweak in his approach may unlock something as well. Same reason they grabbed Sanchez when Santander went out for the year. Sometimes you don't catch that lightning. If it were easy to do, everyone would do it. I applaud the GM for not sitting on his hands - he's shown some urgency to add/plug holes at reasonable/low cost. Those will always be long shots. I guess the criticism is that he didn't got bigger and get more proven bats. I'm not sure it was critical enough at the time that we wanted to start emptying the farm. Injuries to Kirk, Springer, Barger and Lukes, combined with Vlad and DS sh*tting the bed has made it near impossible for any secondary move like to really have much impact either way. I think if Atkins would have known that this is what would have happened, he may have taken another approach - but I don't think anyone would have predicted this (except for a few of the most knowledgeable fans of all-time of course, who just knew this was going to happen).
  21. I suspect you're right, but I think that's a sh*tty reason. I guess there's no precedence of a stat being "removed", but we added stats like saves and we've modified the rules over the years to impact apples to apples comparison of various stats.
  22. Top prospect Robby Snelling gets the call to the bigs, starts 1 game, doesn't pitch well and now needs TJS. Life as a pitcher is simply brutal man. I feel so bad for that kid.
  23. Brock - that chart should be updated to include Fisher's pitches yesterday. I do enjoy having it thought - it gives everyone a rough idea of who is an isn't available for each game.
  24. Exactly why I suggest they should be removed from the sport. Wins have always been nonsensical. Teams win, players do not.
