His base running and defensive value, coupled with his good plate discipline and contact skills certainly give him a fighting chance (then again - the same could have been said for Ellsbury). This is his age 26 season. He probably needs to average 5 WAR per year over the next 10 to reach 70 WAR. That should get him in. If he can stay in the 6-8 WAR range for the next 3 years (27 - 29) he'll have a good chance.
I don't think you should get caught up in what Jeff Blair and Steve Simmons think the Jays should do. Almost every reporter is just making s*** up to fill their time/column.
I guess - but it's a good strategy that gives the team a better chance at winning. You should be able to avoid this situation with strong communication and a commitment to add the $20K onto his next contract or something.
Interesting article from Fangraphs about hitting with backspin v. hitting it square.

Touki Toussaint is making his ML debut today. Remember when Dave f***ing Stewart traded him just to clear Arroyo's $9.5M contract? What an idiot.

That slider is nasty.
Nice breakdown - a couple of names there I'd never heard of.
Can anyone tell me about Travis Bergen? Great K/BB ratios this year as a lefty out of the pen...but he's 24 and in AA. Is he a hard thrower? We really could use a reliable lefty in our pen moving forward. Mayza's probably that guy, but it would be nice if we had a couple of options.
