Wouldn't you need to know what their profit was over say - the last 10 to 15 years to make that claim? I mean if some team is pocketing $100M in profit year after year after year and refusing to invest a little more in the team, then sure, but if they lost $400M over the past 10 years combined and then finally made some cash in 2018, you could understand why they aren't opening up the pocket book this year. Even at that - businesses aren't required to break even. They're allowed to make money. If you don't like their product, you don't go or support them.

I wonder what his bunt % is and whether there are advanced metrics that suggest he should double it. It would be awesome to see him bunt so often that teams go into sacrifice bunt formation when he's up.

It's the fact that's he's just "not bad" that holds him back. Hicks provides a lot more value defensively and on the base paths.

Hick will play this entire season as a 29 year old and I think you could argue that signing him for 4 years $64M would have been a solid deal for the Yanks (same AAV as L.Cain got). Yes, the 7 years is significant; however, it comes at such a discount that there's almost no risk. Grichuk is 2 years younger and after 4 full seasons has shown little to no improvement. You may be right - we may see some modest gains this year and next - perhaps back to 3 or 3.5 WAR, but his K/BB ratio, base running and defense hold him back from being much more. Hicks is a superior player and to think the Yanks could get him at the same AAV as it would take to extend Grichuk is a testament to how good of a deal the Yanks got Hicks at.

Not sure I agree. Hicks was the 22nd best positional player in MLB last year. He's really good. Great K/BB ratio, good speed, good defense, good power. Harper was a f***ing beast in 2015. His average WAR/season for the other 6 seasons is 3.56, which is below the 4.1 that Hicks has averaged the past 2 seasons. Hicks is older and maybe doesn't have the upside, but to get him for $10M a season is criminal. I mean we're paying f***in Morales $11M this year. The Rockies are paying a ton of s***** relievers $9M a season.

Aaron Hicks is so underrated. Overshadowed by the big names in NY. This is a good signing for the Yanks.

Just so I'm clear, the first 4 items there benefit the players. What do the Owners get out of this? Is it the max contract length? I completely agree with the proposal - I'm just concerned the Owners will see it as they are giving up way too much.

I've always thought that if you need or want to get drunk at something - you probably don't enjoy it; however, a lot of people don't really view it that way For example. I 'say' I like ice fishing, but the truth is, I ice fish one weekend a year and I'm loaded the whole time. If I tried to ice fish for an entire day sober - I probably wouldn't like it. So if fact, I don't like ice fishing - I like getting drunk with my old buddies, while ice fishing. A lot of people experience this phenomenon with golf. They don't want to golf unless they can drink while golfing. Those people don't actually like golf. We all know these people - heck, you might be one of these people. There's nothing technically wrong with these people, except that they are confused about how much they actually enjoy golf. And of course finally, we see it a lot with baseball. People say they like going to the dome to watch the Jays, but in reality, they really like drinking outside of their basement, while generally watching the Jays game. These folks like opening day - and fill the dome on opening day not because they like baseball, but because they know there will be a party atmosphere that caters to their enjoyment of getting loaded at the game. These folks generally ruin opening day for baseball fans and/or people with children. I mean it could be worse - we could be the Buffalo Bills who fill their stadium with these type of people every single game. No kid under the age of about 16 should head to a Bills game.

Angels are reportedly interested in Moustakas and the Phillies have also shown interest. He'd be a nice fit for either team and he's likely available on a short term deal worth <$10M. What an amazing time to be a contending team.

If only MLB could get their camera in at that angle for regular season games......
