  1. 4 and 6 now!
  2. Pearson, Manoah, Pardinho, Kloffenstein, Woods-Richardson, Kay, SRF, Murphy, Murray, Kendell Williams, Winckowski, Zeuch + Thornton, Waguespack, Borucki and the outside chance that Sanchez returns to form (July was great for him). I'm probably missing a couple guys, but I think it's safe to say our farm system is no longer void of pitching...
  3. That's old school mentality man - straight from folks who believe in unwritten rules. You take the best package you can get - regardless of division.
  4. Not that I really question Hurl, but is this true? That's a pretty easy way to sell this trade to the fans...
  5. I think he's talking Sonny Gray to the Reds....more control than Stroman, similar track record (maybe a little less)
  6. Today I learned Strasburg is 31 years old. I feel old now. Thanks Stephen.
  7. Quantrill is Canadian - therefore he's the 'logical' target for the Jays. f*** off Kenny...what a pathetic attempt.
  8. Are these *******s trying to suggest Curt Flood belongs in the HOF? f*** off
  9. Haha. I'm on my phone and just posted about this broadcast team without seeing you guys are already ripping them. Glad to see we're all on the same page.
  10. Whoever the announcer is for the Houston/St. Louis game is making an ass out of himself talking about the old days. Apparently nobody in the game 'thinks' the game anymore and he goes on about the starters pitching more innings. Hit mute
  11. This morning on Sportsnet they actually highlighted that the Cubs used their last mound visit in the 8th with the bases loaded. That reminded me that rule even existed. It reminds me of the take out slide rule. Buck and Tabby (and just about every other broadcast team in baseball) wined and complained about this change and how it was going to effect the game....and about a month later, no one ever spoke of it again. It turns out catchers don't need to speak with pitchers 12 times a game. I haven't heard anyone complain they had miscommunication in a big moment because their catcher couldn't come talk to them. The issues around the takeout slide are basically gone (save a few incidents). IMO - it's a better game now. Kudos to MLB.
  12. If Stro could STFU and stop hurting out leverage - that would be appreciated.
  13. Anyone know why the Astros gave up on Collin McHugh as a starter? I think at one point, he was simply the odd man out as their 6th best starter. That's obviously no longer the case, yet he's now just a bullpen arm. The guys was about as good as Stroman from 2014 to 2016
  14. Bruh - I used hyphens all the time (I refer to it as a dash though).
  15. dude I even acknowledged it...relax - and none of us should pretend we have any idea what the potential extension offers or counter offers are. Would you give Stroman 6 years $140M? Would you be mad at the FO if they took that offer, rejected it and decided to trade him? What if it was 8 years for $184? (same AAV as Corbin, but Stro is younger with a slightly longer track record)
  16. He's been worth 0.5 WAR this year in 186 PA's. Even with a .233 BABIP, he'd be our 5th best offensive player. Sign him up.
  17. Agreed. Again, why get all pissed at the FO when you have no idea what the circumstances are. If Shatkins offered him $100M over 5 years (which would be more than fair given the recent signings of similar pitchers) and he rejected and asked for 8 years $220M....and based on that demand, the Jays traded him.....would you fault the FO? (yes I'm channeling my inner glory)
  18. Fair....they spend money when it was time to win. We don't know if the Jays will do this or not. Good call on Zobrist - forgot about him, but you didn't mention Darvish. You also didn't factor in how much of a douchebag that Lackey is. That brings his $/WAR up to about $45M/WAR For every Cub's example, there are the Angels and Mets, amongst others who spend a ton and produce nothing. For every team like the Cubbies who spent to prolong their window, there are the Cards who can simply let a HOFer like Pujols walk and carry on. IMO, I think the Jays will spend when the time is right. That's probably in 2021 and thus trading Stro and Giles now to get more top talents who can align with the core is the right move.
  19. But man - they spend lots of money!
  20. I mean - I guess??? The discussion here is on overspending on FA's. Inking Wade Miley to a 1 year $4.5M deal and Robinson Chirinos to a 1 year $5.75M deal don't really count. You could add in the Josh Reddick signing. He was good for 1 year, but is now somewhat of a dud. In general, the Astros have made savy, short term, low risk FA signings. The big one they made was extending Altuve - which they more than likely won't get any excess value out of and may soon regret. We'll see what they do with Cole here...
  21. Lester - great Lackey - OK Heyward - terrible Darvish - terrible Kimbrel - undecided This hasn't been an excellent path for the Cubbies
  22. Sorry - you were suggesting having a GM who doesn't overspend can be a bad thing. Typically - overspending occurs in free agency. Extending your own players typically comes at a lower cost (as there are risk to both sides). Overspending on free agents has been proven over and over again to be the fool's gold approach. Some of you are getting all bent out of shape because the team isn't extending Stroman...when for all you know, he's asking for way too much AAV ($30M+) or too much term (7 or 8 years). Why get all up in arms like our FO is stupid and too conservative when you have no idea what he's asking for? If Shatkins offered him $100M over 5 years (which would be more than fair given the recent signings of similar pitchers) and he rejected and asked for 8 years $220M....and based on that demand, the Jays traded him.....would you fault the FO?
  23. Bob - please cite all these big name FA's those teams have signed. I'll start you off. The Cubs signed Heyward and Darvish and the Cardinals signed Fowler. How are those working out for them? Houston signed Brantley to a short term reasonable deal, Braves signed JD to a 1 year deal, Brewers signed Moose for next to nothing.
  24. Man - It's been proven over and over that building through FA isn't very successful. You show me the GM that overspends and gets results... I suspect you're going to come up with 1 team. Boston. You might be able to argue the Yankees also as they essentially 'bought' Stanton from Miami even though they technically traded for him...but even the Yankees have generally been built from within or through trades (Sev, Didi, Judge, Gardner, Voit, Sanchez, Torres, Frazier) Let's look at the teams we'd love to 'be like' Houston Dodgers Cardinals Cubs? Brewers? Braves? Look at the blue print for the best teams in baseball right now man. f*** me.
