  1. Is there a tangible difference between a 'team' cheating and their individual players cheating? I mean there are players on every team in baseball that cheat. Would a team really set up this elaborate system to cheat - knowing all their players would be privy to the cheating (and thus obviously knowing that eventually, someone would rat them out?) What if the TV in the tunnel was simply running the TV broadcast and players took it upon themselves to stand there, watch it, pick up on the signals and then relay them from the bench (just as they would if a pitcher was tipping his pitches - which they could see from their angle on the bench).
  2. Issue is he's turning 32. Tsutsugo is will be 28 next year (turning 29 after the season).
  3. I mean what I said - blah. I don't really care. I'm sure the FB/Twitter world is outraged and want an asterisk next to the 2017 World Series Championship now. I'm sure that like you, they've drawn many comparisons with Patriots and posted lots of unoriginal memes, which they mistakenly think makes them feel cleaver. I'm also sure if you tried to have a discussion on the matter with them - they've already made up their mind. so yeah - blah.
  4. Astros stealing signs via camera in the 2017 season. Blah. Whatever.

Isn't it a tad hypocritical for someone of English/Irish decent to criticize how immigrant's aren't embracing the history and traditions from 'natives'? Is it possible for immigrants to be more destructive than the English/French/Irish were when they immigrated to North America?

Just to clarify, do don't think he's talking about immigrants and minorities? or you think what he's saying is accurate? (or both)

I think it's fascinating to think about how the English and Irish immigrated to Canada and then watch them complain about the recent immigrants.

Can someone point me towards the Don Cherry discussion? Thanks.
  9. Teams are exactly scared off by the QO compensation as much as they used to be - but our willingness to sacrifice a 2nd round pick might be our competitive advantage over other teams.
  10. It's funny to see a team with top prospects (Bohm, Adell, Vaughn) and some f***ing ancient guys like Erik Kratz and Clayton Richard. Kratz is 19 years older than Jo Adell! These Olympic team setups are such nonsense. What a flawed system. I'm not sure who "didn't show up" for Canada, but when you're trying to encourage them to come out and play with Stubby Clap and Rob Ducey - I get why they decline.
  11. We're ranked 10th - so yes, there are 10 nations where baseball is played.
  12. Aren't we stunted by winter?
  13. Interesting projections for the Jays Vlad 127 wRC+, 3.4 WAR Bo 106 wRC+, 3.2 WAR Biggio 103 wRC+, 2.2 WAR Jansen 99 wRC+, 2.0 WAR Grichuk 104 wRC+, 1.6 WAR Gurriel 102 wRC+, 1.5 WAR McGuire 81 wRC+, 1.5 WAR Tellez 104 wRC+, 1.2 WAR Drury 86 wRC+, 0.6 WAR Fisher 92 wRC+, 0.6 WAR Teo 92 wRC+, 0.2 WAR McKinney 95 wRC+, 0.2 WAR Offensively, that would be pretty disappointing from Bo, Biggio, Gurriel (and even Fisher). That would be very solid by Vladdy. Streamers also projects essentially every pitcher on our staff not named Giles to have an ERA over 5.
  14. What a bunch of nonsense. GM's talk all the time about this kind of stuff. A suggestion that they 'have an idea of what they're going to do in free agency' is as simple as 'we like the FA market for starting pitchers and think we're going to try and add that way - instead of trading for one of your starting pitchers' The PA painting this as collusion between teams on the prices they're willing to pay for free agents is a pathetic attempt to mask the reality that valuations for free agents has rightfully dropped.
  15. You're fooling yourself if you think there's one particular blueprint to winning in baseball.
  16. What probability do you think there was that the Jays would miss the playoffs or end up in a 1 game, winner wild card game after making the Price trade? I'd say it was at least 70%. Giving up the 17th best prospect in baseball for 11 starts with those odds was not universally reviewed as a wise move. But it paid off.
  17. 1 game under .500 - battling for a wild card spot at the time of the trade(s). Yes, our RF/RA ratio suggested we were better than our record, but I don't think anyone in their right mind would have claimed we were a 'legitimate championship contender'.
  18. On January 21, 2015, Norris was named by MLB as the third-best LHP prospect in baseball. In 2015, MLB named Norris as the number 1 Blue Jays' prospect, the number 3 left-handed pitching prospect in baseball, and the 17th best prospect overall. Also a reminder we dealt Hoffman (the Jays 2014 1st round pick and a top 50 prospect) in the Tulo deal just 2 days before they got Price. We traded the 17th over prospect in baseball when the team was 1 game under .500 (fighting for a wild card spot) to add 11 starts (74 1/3 IP) from David Price. We also dealt a top 50 prospect in baseball to upgrade Reyes to Tulo (while taking on more money and term). In a vacuum - those are horrible moves (they look even worse today when you look at current player valuations...it wasn't AS bad back in 2015). But - it worked, the Jays went on a huge run, won the division and gave Jays fans the most excitement they've had in over 22 years. It's also aided by the face that both Norris and Hoffman never developed into a whole hell of a lot. There was probably a much higher probability those moves moves blew up in AA's face (maybe 30% success / 70% failure ratio???), but that's how baseball works.
  19. To be fair, Boyd's been the 38th best pitcher in baseball since 2017, ahead of David Price and other household names like Odorizzi, Darvish, Hamels, Keuchel + Bumgarner. That said, I don't think anyone foresaw that at the time of the trade (most would have pegged Norris as the guy providing that kind of production). The Price is viewed as a success based on the Jays results. If they got Price and JD blew out his hammy and the Jays missed the playoffs, the trade would have been viewed as a failure - as the team gave up a top prospect to get a rental on a .500 team that wasn't in playoff contention. Luckily for AA, they team took off as soon as Price stepped in the locker room and the rest is beautiful baseball history.
  20. not sure you want Torres at SS all year.
  21. He does look a lot better there....camera angle?
  22. https://blogs.fangraphs.com/instagraphs/chase-anderson-brings-an-improved-cutter-to-the-blue-jays/
  23. Agreed. He reminds me a lot of AJ Burnett when the Jays signed him.
  24. I don't think JDM's contract is hideous enough to restrict their ability to trade him. He's coming off a 3.2 WAR season (1 season removed from a 5+ WAR season) and the man can still absolutely MASH the ball. You have to imagine they will clear payroll however necessary to sign Betts long term.
  25. So what? The compensation isn't a 1st rounder anymore.
