    The complication is a slightly damaged Graterol is probably still worth Maeda. It will be the Red Sox saying wait a minute, we gave up Betts, Price and $$$ and we didn't realize Graterol was this damaged. We need to get more from somebody in this deal. I agree - I suspect the Dodgers are the ones who get squeezed for more.

    Isn't this as simple as the Red Sox evaluating the likelihood that they could sign Betts long term (or after he became a FA) and concluded it wasn't going to happen? Big market or not - it would be incredibly stupid to complete that evaluation, decide the odds of them retaining Betts were slim, and then keep him anyway.

    I had some Beau's Lugtread this weekend for the first time. I really enjoyed it....although I was ice fishing and thus was already pretty drunk and high as f***. We got the update on Tony while we were in the hut. Jesse Barfield reporting that he spoke with Juan Guzman, who said that Tony Fernandez is in critical condition was hilarious to us (the line of reporting, not the news).

    I'm with Jim and BTS on this. I see why the Twins did it. Will it bite them long term? probably, but they are looking to win in 2020, 2021.

    Yep - trading Betts right before he enters his prime years and moving on from Price at age 34 coming off an injury plagued year. Incredible job by the Red Sox.

    Luis Urias underwent surgery on Tuesday to repair a fractured left hamate bone and is expected to be sidelined for the next 6-8 weeks. Tough break.

    sorry - I missed the other time back in 2012. Moose turns 32 this year. I'd project a decline - especially while playing 2nd base full time for the first time in his career. But maybe that's just me.

    The Astros are hiring Dusty Baker to be their Manager. Nothing says "don't worry, we won't be using technology to steal signs (or for anything) anymore" than hiring Dusty Baker. This is such a bizarre fit. Progressive FO meets old school head on.

    I'm assuming that playing 2nd base all year drags Moose's WAR down. He's also only exceeded 3 WAR once in his career back in 2015. Seems unlikely he'll ever hit 3.5 again.

    Could always throw in another young controllable piece who could help them win not like Trent Thornton - or a prospect of their liking to sweeten a Giles/Reese package.....but I mean, that still seems incredibly stupid of the Reds. They have to be getting an impact player like Lindor or some big time prospect at another position if they are moving Senzel. Aquino and Akiyama probably aren't very good and what's the upside of Moustakas? a 2.5 WAR 2nd baseman? Even the upside of Castellanos is like 2.5-3 WAR probably. There's a decent chance that Senzel is better than everyone on the Reds who isn't named Suarez. Why on earth you'd trade him is beyond me.

    Giles, Groshans and Teoscar for Senzel and Winkler? I think the best thing we could offer them in terms of immediate needs is at catcher; however, they do have Tyler Stephenson in their ranks. Giles and Janssen for Senzel? Assuming Senzel is healthy, who says no?

    I should have elaborated. Senzel's like a year removed from being a top 3 prospect in baseball and should still carry and insane amount of value in trade talks. I guess this rumour is premised on getting a player like Lindor or some other young, controlled top prospect in a position of need because you don't block him with JAGs like Aquino, Akiyama or even Moustakes as there's a decent chance he's actually better than all 3 of those guys as soon as 2020 and based on his pedigree, is someone you build around. Would be interesting to see what he costs. Winkler would also be an interesting target for our underwhelming OF.

    I'm not a big fan of the white panel hats or anything to do with the new powder uniforms or hats. For me, it's the blue hats with any of the white, grey or blue jerseys. They all look amazing. No need for anything more.
