  1. If you're affected by the propaganda - you should stop following sports. Nearly everything that GM's and the media say is utter ********. Stop watching analysis shows and the pre and post game interviews man...it's all BS.
  2. Fair enough, but if Mazara didn't jump to the MLB as a 20 year old - instead he tore up A/AA/AAA, he'd probably would have been considered one of the top prospects in baseball and then if he made the jump to the MLB and produced like he did last year, wouldn't we all look at him differently and suggest Texas got hosed? It's the failure to improve at the MLB level (and loss of control) that generates this distaste in our mouth for Mazara and I think it's a little unfair. I see this as a reasonable risk for the White Sox. I'm going to give up now b/c you're way smarter than I am and we'll see what happens.
  3. If you don't want to sit - then don't suck.
  4. Royals manager Mike Matheny said Tuesday that Salvador Perez (elbow) could see "considerable time" at first base next season. That's the most Royals thing I've ever read.
  5. AA did the exact same thing - he retooled, built the farm system and then put all his chips in the pot (perhaps somewhat foolishly or as a last ditch effort) to go for it. We weren't throwing big FA dollars around every year in the AA days man. It's amazing how quickly people forget and it skews their perception.
  6. Fair enough Laika - I trust ya, but he's still a guy who posted a 124 wRC+ as a 23 year old in A+ ball. A .157 ISO doesn't seem to suggest this violent bat speed is producing the results yet. I mean older prospects work out and Walker may, but Mazara was hitting 20 hrs and as just 5% below league average in the major leagues the same time Walker was in A+ ball. I fully expect multiple teams believe they can tap into Mazara's unrealized potential.
  7. But....AA never won. He gave us a very short window of opportunity. It's easy to look at the Yankees and go "I want to be them - spend where you need to, play with the big boys - it will be awesome" But more often than not, you end up being the Angels or the Mets and you're s***. I mean the Phillies signed and added a s*** ton of players last year (and this year) and they still sucked.
  8. It's funny how quickly people forget how successful FA signings have historically been. We all see shiny toys on the shelf and see it as a great way to make us better...we forget that most of those toys end up losing their luster and being thrown in the trash shortly after they are opened.
  9. My sarcasm meter is broken. Maraza's been s*** and there's a good chance he never turns into anything useful, but to get him at age 24 for a 23 year old OF in A+ ball - that seems worth the risk for Chicago.
  10. Adam Jones signs a 2 year contract to play in Japan. f*** him. I don't like him.
  11. Apparently Texas is looking to move any LH hitting OFer not named Gallo. White Sox are reportedly all over Nomar Mazara.
  12. Wow - on a 1 year prove it deal. Didi at SS, Segura to 2nd and Kingery to OF? or 3rd base?
  13. When was the last time any vesting option was executed?
  14. FFS - this exactly the type of deal the Jays should be making with our payroll flexibility.
  15. Some ******* decided to only vote for Jeter? what a ****.
  16. I'm with Mike on this one. He makes me really nervous. xFIP has gone from 3.32 to 3.84 to 4.06 over the past 3 seasons and is entering his age 32 season. Just something about him that I can't get on board with. That said, he's better than nothing and I do see him as a realistic target and it's nice there's no draft pick associated with him.
  17. I agree with this and I don't think Keuchel is good.
  18. Rendon + Ryu probably...
  19. Jeff Passan of ESPN reports that the new deal is worth $245 million over seven years. That will be the richest contract ever given to a pitcher (both in total value and AAV), though it won't last long once Gerrit Cole signs. And this deal should only help his position in negotiations. Strasburg opted out of the final four years and $100 million to test the open market. We'd say he did pretty well for himself. Per multiple reports, Strasburg's contract with the Nationals also includes a full no-trade clause. There are reportedly $80 million in deferrals, though Joel Sherman of the New York Post reports that they will all be paid in three years following the completion of the seven-year deal and include interest. Nats deferring $80M - what's new
  20. I guess Travis Shaw misses this list because he'll turn 30 next season - but I think that in addition to Yoshi - he'd be a great target. I'd love to see a 1 year $5M deal with a team option for year 2 around the $10M mark. Between Shaw, Vlad and Yoshi, I think there's versatility for them to share time at 3rd, 1st, DH and maybe a little OF (yoshi + shaw only)
  21. Looks like a nice live arm. His minor league numbers suggest he induces a lot of ground balls too.
  22. Wow! I'd love to be a fly on the wall in that office. We can't afford Strasburg and Rendon.....we probably would rather keep Rendon, but we certainly can't lose both. More teams covet Rendon...when do you pull the trigger?
  23. awww - they have their own Stroman. That's cute.
  24. Renfroe was a beast in the first half last year (wRC+ 132) and Goins in the second half (wRC+ 51). Will TB be able to work their magic? We'll see. The 5th overall prospect in the Padres system is a top 2-3 prospects on most teams.
