  1. I've seen this in a couple of the stories posted before ------------------------ Most hyped prospect ever for every team Bryce Harper, Ken Griffey Jr. and Bo Jackson lived up to their billing. Todd Van Poppel and Gregg Jefferies? Not so much. Here's the one prospect we were sure would be your team's next superstar. David Schoenfield -------------------------------------------------- I've read it twice now and thought to myself - wasn't Gregg Jefferies a decent player? was he a top 5 draft pick or something? Why's he grouped in with Todd Van Poppel? I search on Fangraphs and he was the 20th overall pick and posted 20 career WAR with a peak of 5.4 in 1993. I don't get it. What am I missing? He must have been a super hyped prospect at some point? I mean f*** sakes, Bo Jackson ended up with 7.7 career WAR - how did he live up to the hype? I mean he was a freak of nature, but he didn't produce.
  2. John Lott of The Athletic reports that the Blue Jays have committed to paying all full-time employees through October 1. There will be some pay cuts, but only for staff members "above a low-earning threshold," per Lott's sources. The highest-salaried employees will take the biggest pay reductions. Props to the Blue Jays for easing the stress of their own as the baseball world attempts to wait out the coronavirus pandemic. Classy move boys.
  3. f*** Hurl - don't do that to us.
  4. KG - I think you're just really overestimating how long it would take an elite HS kid like Veen to reach that Majors. Yelich (who Veen's been compared to) was drafted in 2010 and reached the majors in 2013 and became a full time starter in 2014 at age 22. J Upton - drafted 2005, debuted in 2007 and full time starter in 2008 Correa - drafted 2012, full time starter in 2015 Jarred Kelenic - drafted 2018, probably would have reached AAA this year and the majors in 2021 Obviously this is no guarantee, but to assume 6 years is a bit odd.
  5. I should have known you were referring to society over 5000 years ago...f*** me. I don't have much opinion on that subject Grant.
  6. I don't disagree at all; however, I'm not sure I'd agree it's 'served us well'. In all likelihood, it's hampered and held back society.
  7. A large % of the population form irreversible opinions well before they have the information - and/or maintain their opinion while ignoring the facts. It's a huge issue.
  8. I may be underestimating how easy it is for Owner to turn a profit. I legit thought teams actually lost money some years. Even if they still 'make money', their ROI's must vary from year to year. That said - if you sign players a contact and they stop preforming or get hurt, then you're ROI may take a big hit and the lack of team success could have on the bottom line.
  9. Everything will also lean on the side of the Owners. They are the ones that take the risk and thus deserve more of a reward. If you want to even up the risk - move to non guaranteed contracts.
  10. That's a tangible change then IMO. Tough to form an opinion without understanding whether changes like that were discussed during negotiations. Perhaps both sides accepted the risk that things could change and agreed they wouldn't re-open negotiations. If so - Owners are dumb. If the agreement was made based on a set of agreed upon assumptions - and some of those have changed, then I'm not sure why anyone would argue this isn't valid. I can't imagine both sides are stupid enough not to have considered this and addressed it. I also suspect a lot of the players don't know or understand that level of minutia and thus should probably avoid forming, and especially voicing an opinion on that matter.
  11. The MLB and MLBPA already struck and agreement - but have the circumstances tangibly changed since that agreement was made? length of season, playoff format, fans v. no fans, etc? If they have, then wouldn't it seem completely reasonable for MLB to come back to the MLBPA and ask for some revisions to suit what's actually going to happen?
  12. https://www.nbcsports.com/washington/nationals/bryce-harper-breaks-down-free-agency-pitch-each-team-he-met Interesting read. Dodgers offered 4 years, $180M, Houston offered a 1 year deal for a huge amount of money that made Harper pause and consider it.
  13. You're probably 100% correct about this; however, I can't get past the concern of taking a pitcher. Something continues to worry me about Gonzales too (probably based on my love for Veen's swing). Like you - I gotta trust the FO.
  14. Keith sure knows how to develop your Top 10 pick!
  15. "He's a fine catcher who has improved behind the plate, but most objections about his defense aren't taking into account a likely automatic strike-calling future by the time he gets to the big leagues." It's interesting to see that in a scouting report!
  16. He was a beast. Would have been elite if his control ever improved.
  17. crazy. I was just reading stories about him asking staff to hunt down women from the stands who would fool around with him during the game. I can't image.
  18. What the hell happened to Strawberry? I know he was cocaine and sex addict (actually fooling around with women between innings), but he went from a 4 WAR full time player to playing like 40 games a year for his last 8 years. Just injuries?
  19. Go figure that money - and not health concerns could potentially squash or delay the season. f*** both sides.
  20. That sir - is incorrect.
  21. This blows. I love drafts. 5 rounds is balls.
  22. Morris is poo
  23. good call on Shawn Green
  24. Ontario just permitted sports teams to return to their facilities...
  25. Henderson played 44 games for the Jays and was s***. I think for this list you're looking at their performance while on the Blue Jays. If we aren't, then Frank Thomas is our DH. If they are putting JD on the team, than Martin should be there behind the dish.
